Help - please give me some advice on my EE

My school wants us to choose a subject and a research question (even if it's just an idea) after Christmas break so they can assign our supervisors specific to the subject that we chose.

My HL subjects are Economics, Chemistry and Biology but I want to do an English A EE because that's what I find most interesting.

As for my HL subjects, I know I don't have the heart to write an essay in Economics because I find it boring. I don't feel like writing a Chemistry or Biology EE either because it is very experiment-based (I find experiments boring too *facepalm*).

I know that our EE can be from any subject the IBO offers, so I really want to do mine on English A.

I have a lot of ideas but they're all very vague.

My initial idea was about dystopian literature like Orwell's 1984 and Huxley's Brave New World but I'm also aware that these two books are compared a lot so it's probably best not to do this since this topic is too widely used (a lot of ideas could've been repeatedly used) and would only lower my grade.

I also remembered someone in my school did an EE on the theme of madness in Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Shakespeare's Hamlet so I thought madness or mental illness could be an interesting point to explore.

Another idea is writing about antiwar/war-related books like Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-five, Spiegelman's Maus, and Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front.

Or maybe the portrayal of (something) from works by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Zusak's The Book Thief/Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 (books and stuff - don't ask).

As for my research question, I'm looking for a theme to explore since I can go on and analyse language, character, techniques etc. as well.

Basically - there are a lot of ideas that are not developed and a lot of books I have not read. I'm going to Japan for nine days during the Christmas break so hopefully I can read a few books during that time.

If anybody can tell me what you think of my ideas that would be great - I'm also open to reading suggestions for any of the ideas I mentioned above!

If English A is what you're passionate for, do it!! (with consideration of the fact that you're essay will be compared to other English A essays written by english A students and because you don't do the subject you might not know the requirements of the subject as well)

also you have a lot of ideas so make sure they're researchable and doable and answerable and READ THE GUIDE to see which idea to go with

I think all of your ideas seem decent. Really it's just about picking one you like the idea of the most and following through with it. The more enthusiastic you are about the topic, the easier it will be to produce a good EE. English EEs tend to score highly, so you should be fine!

That's what I thought because I feel that if I'm really interested in the subject I will be more motivated to write it.

I do take English A though, just not at HL and not related to anything I want to do in college.

I've read the guide already and I think I'm going to settle for category 1!

Thanks! I will discuss this with my supervisor once I've been assigned to one.
