Well, I havent taken it, but my teacher has given us a bit of advice. She told us to carry highlighters, and mark out devices using different colours. She also said make excessive notes, about tone, mood etc. Also, she said, never say "i think" or something like that because that makes it appear you dont know jack.

#1- Annotate, annotate, annotate. Do so neatly though, perhaps number your annotations in order to avoid getting nervous when commenting

#2- Search for stylistic devices (tone, mood, symbolism, similes etc) and follow guiding questions

#3- Plan - write an outline as to what you'd like to cover, and tick each point off as you're done commenting on it
