Part/Full IB

Hello,

This is my first post to a forum for this website, I go to West Hall high school in Georgia, and I am a Junior in the 2-year IB program there. At my school we offer part/half IB to students. We have a block schedule, so four classes a day. Either two periods of math/science (they are paired Monday/Tuesday) your IB elective (One period) History of the Americas (One Period) then two periods of your language class Foreign/English (Again paired Monday/Tuesday) and period seven is a free non-IB elective.

There are certain students who only take the language block, or certain ones who only take the math/science block meaning for the other two classes they are non-IB, and some kids even only take an IB elective class, which in my mind should not be a thing. If you're taking IB I believe that you should be taking full IB, meaning in our school's case 6/7 classes being IB.

I would just like to get fellow IB students from across the world to give their opinions on Part VS Full IB.

Thank you for your time.

Hmmmm a lot of people at my school take partial IB to avoid TOK and the EE and not a lot of people in my pre-IB English class wanted to go into IB English. I think the choice between partial and full IB is really up to you. Full IB is pretty rigorous and it does keep you well rounded with those CAS activities as well as taking a different variety of subjects at a more challenging level, but I don't think there's anything wrong with taking partial because full IB isn't right for everyone. People could take partial IB because they're able to play on their strengths more than they would with full IB (they could take IB classes for their best subjects and non-IB classes for the subjects they are eh at).

Right, I understand that full is not for everyone, some people are humble about being in part and will tell you straight up, "I'm part IB, I'm not good enough at math." On the other hand, there are kids, specifically one kid I have in mind, that is in one IB class, an elective. (meaning Art, Psychology, Business, theatre at my school) and he runs around and boasts that he is an IB kid, and acts as if he is above everyone. Maybe this post is based on resentment I feel toward him, and his cockiness. I just feel like if a student is willing to be put through say an English A class, but not math studies is kind of pointless. If you want to do IB put in the work and effort it takes to be a full student. Work toward getting a diploma, millions of students around the world do it. Why can't you? (This may turn into a motivational post soon)
