Should my RQ be based more on literary analysis? So, perhaps "How does Rand's use of symbols and syntax aid in her development of the role of the individual in society?". To make it a stance, simply change the command term. Change 'how' to 'to what extent' and voila! That assumes you are going to argue that the symbols and syntax aid in her development of the role of the individual in society, of course. I don't think you need to show a stance in your question, but 'how' is essentially 'in what ways,' and neither of those sets you up for analysis.
