tqnguyen
Hi. My EE topic was "To what extent has MDG Goal 1 (ERADICATE EXTREME POVERTY & HUNGER) has worked in eliminating hunger in Dien Bien, Vietnam?". My supervisor suggested me to refine it but I do not know how to narrow it down. This is what I have in mind at the moment, "To what extent has MDG Goal 1 (ERADICATE EXTREME POVERTY & HUNGER) has worked in halving the number of people who suffer from hunger in Dien Bien, Vietnam?" Can anyone help me to narrow it down (if it's not). And do you think it is a good topic for Geography? If not, would you suggest any other topic related to MDG goal 1? Thank you! kw0573
Your research question appears to suggest that hunger is reduced in Dien Bien DIRECTLY BECAUSE a goal was established. You should instead look at specific ways that hunger was "eliminated"Eg. government policies, law enforcement, activism, charities' help, volunteer work from the community or elsewhere, new/more reliable sources of food, better harvest techniques, better food/resource distributionThese reasons may or may not be directly related to, or resulted from, the MDGs. You should focus on MDG #1 without explicitly drawing connections between that and the progress made in halving the number of people suffering from hunger.Even then, you may want to narrow in one of these factors.I think one needs to be extra careful working with the MDGs because they involve data that you cannot control, but only measure (eg you CANNOT just effectively contribute to lower hunger "rates" yourself and then to generalize to say that had significant impact because others must have done) Reply
