Enoch
HelloI was thinking of doing Biology for my extended essay (History is my backup) and I have a few topics on my mind, and would like the community's feed back on which one they would like to read, or sounds interesting. If they are even good at all. Biology The effect of music on blood pressure, and heart rate.orThe effect of age and gender on the photo receptor cells in the human retina. I would like feedback from the community thank you Reply
ShootingStar16
Umm idk much about this since I'm doing my EE in history instead of bio, but your topics seem ok when you're just trying to come up with general ideas. I'm not trying to say you can't do a bio EE, but the teachers at my school advise against it/any EE in the sciences (even the science teachers lol). If you really want to do it in bio, go for it, but just know that you need to gather a LOT of solid data and there's biological error to take into consideration. It's not just a simple lab report. If I were you, I'd go with the effect of music on blood pressure/heart rate out of the two topics because for the second one, since it has to be purely experiment based to score decent, it'll probs be hard having access to some materials (e.g. the photo receptor cells?) and it's also too broad. Maybe best to focus on one specific age group? Edited May 20, 2015 by ShootingStar16 Reply
susanne
first is more of an IA second one is good, but it's potentially difficult to conduct your research. I remember there being an IB sample EE that's somewhat similar to this one Reply
IbTrojan
I agree with susanne about the first one, it sounds more like an IA research area. However for the second one, the "effect of gender and age" part is good but again, like susanne said, unless you know you'll be able to conduct that experiment, I would suggest investigating something that won't be as difficult to collect your data. anb2016
I don't think you'd be able to get much out of the first one and in regards to the 2nd one, I'm not accusing you or anything, but I've seen that EXACT extended essay topic online done by some one else. You'll probably get in trouble for plagiarism if you go with the second Reply
