Siencefreak
Hello! I would be very thankful if I could get some tips on how to structure my Paper 1. I know that we need to have a thesis, but I have no idea what it should be based on. As well as how many paragraphs I should have and what I should include in each! Blackcurrant
Hi Sciencefreak, You've probably had this hammered in your head already, but the intro is pretty straightforward. That doesnt mean it is easy to write, just easy to grasp. Very basically, your Paper 1 intro should orientate your readers to the text and how you are going to discuss it. Include at least these things: 1) a literal description of what is in front of you (who, what, when...) -in other words, the basics so your readers know you have a good basic grasp of content.2) thesis - you are going to make a point, right? And argue it. So invent a thesis.3) be sure include in your thesis (or in your orientation) some literary/representational aspects of the text which will be part of your investigation. The main purpose of your commentary will be to show how the text makes you feel and think certain things -- rhetoric. Have a look at samples of high -scoring P1 commentaries. The more you see (and practice) the better. It worked for me, anyway, better than any basic advice. It's one thing to "know" it's another to actually feel what it's like.
