jordan5560
Hi, y'all. I'm gonna be in my second year of IB and I want to spend some time over the summer to prepare for my English class. I hope to do really well in class so that my teacher will get me one more grade for my Predicted Grade (our school has given us a draft of PG grades to sort of motivate us) but I'm not sure how I should prepare to the fullest. So far I've done some research on the contextual background for the books/texts we'll be studying in the first semester. What else can I do to ensure I will be ready for group discussions as well as answering questions in class? Thanks! THEliberator
Read a book in ways that help you establish different aspects of it. I am still in IB year 1, but honestly I did not know anything when I first started literature in 9th grade. However, by the IGCSE finals I was able to get a high B. which is good enough for me. I followed this same way, you might want to read the book once first to know the general context and then you can work chapter by chapter or chapters having fragments of the same sub-plots can be grouped together. If there is a movie on the book than watching a movie can help, however keep in mind that you must only do this after reading the book once and it is only to compliment the learning process it must not be looked at on its own. ShootingStar16
http://www.poetryfoundation.org/browse/ ^this website has a bunch of poems that you can print out and try annotating just to help with your commentary skills. If your teacher already assigned you your World Lit paper and you have your topic, take this summer to work on it and clean it up so that you can get it out of the way. Also, try to squeeze some reading in if you got time. 2 Reply
