ibprincess Posted August 1, 2015 Report Share Posted August 1, 2015 does 22 involve your core points or not? because at my school we didn't get predicted core points in year 1 so if yours does this aswell you can try and get the three core points. If you think about it, a 6 point jump is only 1 mark up in each subject. if you can aim to increase by 1 point between this report and your next report, you should be able to get 27! For me, in my first semester of IB, I was predicted a 30. You have a year, and if you cut down on procrastination and make sure you study effectively, then without a doubt you can do so! Some vague tips, since I have no idea what subjects you take... 1. For subjects like Maths, practice practice practice. It's honestly the best and only way to do it. 2. Make sure you read and understand everything when making notes and put down your train of thinking when you were trying to understand it - chances are, if you didn't understand it immediately, when you return to your notes at the end of the year, you won't understand it then either. Put it all down and make sure it's detailed. 3. Mind maps can be really helpful for mapping out concepts. 4. Use study times wisely. 5. Give yourself a break. Give yourself one day off from all studying and extra-curriculars per week - or maybe an evening, like Friday evening, try using the Pomodoro Technique when studying (you can get free apps to help with it), and in your breaks do a mixture of active things (like maybe some jogging or something to get some fresh air or to just give you some time to think about something other than studying, and whatever you enjoy doing as a reward. I'm sure you can do it. Ask your teachers and peers for help when necessary - teachers are there to help you, so take advantage of it! Good luck! ellie Posted August 1, 2015 Report Share Posted August 1, 2015 I agree with all that's been said so far but want to add: your IB1 predicted grades mean almost nothing because nobody knows what they're doing in the beginning, and almost everyone improves drastically by real predicteds/mocks/exams. The thing is, My school has this strict policy from this year onward that anyone below 24 has to do the certificate course. So now i have the option of doing either the certificate course or repeating for my diploma. I am applying to colleges in United Kingdom and Australia which do not accept candidates with the certificate . But after research and a lot of thought, i have decided to take the certificate course and apply to the foundation courses in these colleges ( which i can get through easily).
