XxChampXx
I have just started IB about a month ago but I still don't understand what is to be done in TOK. Can someone please explain everything related to TOK and what we have to do for the final boards? Also, please give me some tips and tricks to score the 3 additional points. All the help and support is appreciated. Thank you very much in advance for your reply. Reply
Emmi
I'm not going to tell you everything because I feel like you should be able to look up some of this stuff since it's literally just googling or searching on this site, but I'll give a general overview. ToK is an epistemology course, meaning the study of knowledge and how we gain knowledge, as well as the problems associated with how we get that knowledge. There are "ways of knowing" which are broad areas that describe "how" we gain knowledge (such as reason, emotions, etc), and "areas of knowledge" which are the main areas that we learn from (such as history, arts, natural science, etc). What you should study in the course is how we use the ways of knowing in each area of knowledge to gain knowledge. ToK is concerned with "knowledge" issues, which are problems in the way we get knowledge. They focus mainly on how we know, and how do we know that we know. You will examine many knowledge issues in class. Your score comes from two things, an essay and a presentation. You give a short presentation on a TOK-related topic either by yourself or with a group, and your teacher gives you a score. You also write an essay on an assigned title that the IB will at some point send out for your exam session. There are usually several titles, and you pick one to write on. You get the three points by doing well in ToK and on your EE. You need to get either an A on both, or an A on one and a B on the other (doesn't matter which). The best way to get the extra three points is to just follow the criteria, and don't wait until the last minute. There are many guides out there, on this site and on the internet, about ToK. Go read those to get additional information. 2 Reply
