llama
It's been day 3 of IB and I am confused. I've chosen my subjects but I do not understand the marking system or anything . I've come from a different syllabus. The subjects I've chosen are :Maths HL Physics HL Chemistry HL EnglishL&L HL Psychology SL Spanish Ab Now I've been told that the in the IB 4 HL's are hard to do and actually get decent grades in. But I need those for my career and according to my seniors EngL&L HL is just free credits compared to the SL. I feel pretty confident about maths and chemistry as the things that are being taught right now were taught to me in grade 10 in my previous school. I would appreciate it if someone could explain the grading system, about CAS, ToK or the EE. and if i should take 4-5 HL and if it will help me. P.S. I plan to take software programming as a career. Solution ShootingStar16 Posted August 28, 2015 Solution Report Share Posted August 28, 2015 (edited) Whether or not you need 4 HL's really depends on the uni you want to go to. If they don't require 4 HL's and you find 4 HL's way too stressful, drop one of them to SL. You'll get used to it because going into IB is always at least a bit of a shock. Know the syllabus inside out, so you know what they expect/don't expect you to know. Also, getting exposed to a bunch of past paper questions really helps. For English, it's good to get well-acquainted with the rubrics. Ngl, I hear Math HL, Physics HL and Chem HL is the hardest HL combo. If you're willing to put the time in though, go for it. Just know that it'll take lots of time. If you really like math (I mean REALLY like it), then stick with math HL. I think your CAS coordinator/IB coordinator should talk to you about CAS. Every school does it differently, but from what I know, they're not counting hours anymore and you have to fulfill 8 learner outcomes. TOK is basically this epistemology class where you look into the question: "How do you know what you know?" You explore the areas of knowledge (history, art, natural sciences, ethics etc.) and the ways of knowing (emotion, faith, intuition, reason, sense perception, memory, imagination, language). It's really hard to explain and again, every teacher does it differently. For us, our teacher showed us videos and had little lectures. We also had to do blog posts. For the EE.. don't worry about it just yet. Your TOK teacher will explain this to you. It's basically a 4000 word essay on a topic of your choice in a subject you ideally take.
