Chemistry IA help

Hey guys! I'm doing my IA on comparing theoretical and practical values of cell potentials. The values are all lower than expected (theoretical)...I know one reason could be that the compounds were impure. Can you tell me other reasons for this?

Thanks a lot!

There is something called emf. Essentially the battery itself needs voltage to move the electrons. I only took SL physics so I admit I am not fully knowledgeable in the area. Talk to a physics teacher.

this is my chemistry ia, and its about the voltaic cell. I made one and the values of standard cell potential are lower than the theoretical ones. This wasn't in your course?

Hi I took HL Chemistry. In the 2009 syllabus we still learned about redox and electrochemistry. I was thinking about electrolytic cells for some reason. Oops

What happens is that the redox table essentially provides info on which reactions are most favoured by how much voltage is req'd for the reduction to take place (in comparison to SHE). Some other reactions could also take place. So if you want if you can do some gas tests to see if anything you won't expect is produced.
