Annesant98
Hi! I have an essay due for tomorrow, and I'm struggling with the last question. I've only had econ for two weeks. This is the task:1.Distinguish between a shift of the demand curve for a product and a movement along the product’s demand curve2.With reference to two different determinants of demand explain why the demand curve for bicycles might increase Can someone please help me? Like give me a hint or something?Thank you! Reply
Djsporting
I'm assuming your question is number 2: An increase in demand for bicycles might occur due to two different determinants of Demand, in this case i'll use Decrease in price, and Increase in the popularity of bicycles. If there is an increase in the popularity of bicycles it will produce a rightwards shift in the demand curve. Further, a decrease in price will produce a change in the quantity demanded for a product and there will therefore be a Movement along the demand curve since as P1 decreases to P2 The quantity demanded for bicycles will increase from Q1 to Q2. Tamta_G
you could potentially talk about the price of substitutes as a determinant, for example if the price of cars was to increase then people would begin to look for cheaper options such as a bicycle and therefore the demand would increase.
