last minute advice need for comparative english essay!

hey y'all!!

so I'm writing a comparative essay on how three different authors characterize the figure of the devil in their respective novels, and to what effect and purpose. I talk about physical appearance, action/behaviour, and dialogue

what I'm kinda struggling with is the purpose. the whole like overarching idea of the EE has to show like the "So What" to what you're researching, and I don't really know what to do :/

like for example I talk about how in Faust, the devil looks human and is characterized more as a trickster and conniving, in Dante's Inferno, satan looks like a terrifying beast, but he's not smart or conniving or anything like that, and in Paradise Lost, Lucifer is a rebellious, angry angel who realizes there is no redemption for him

So I've talked about what effect this has, but like I said, I don't know how to touch upon the 'so what?'. Like, what's the purpose of these different characterizations?

I was thinking of talking about how it shows how the same archetypal figure is represented differently - would that work, or is that more of effect as opposed to purpose?

MY EE IS DUE IN LIKE 2 DAYS AND THIS IS ALL I HAVE LEFT TO DO PLEASE HELP

thanks :----)) so much :-)

Hey!

Yeah that would work as a start. But (as I'm told to do since I'm also doing an English EE) is to connect it with today's problems and stuff. So you gotta show how it is significant to todays society.

You can say something like "how it shows how the same archetypal figure is represented differently" and expand it, so you're not just talking about the devil figure anymore.

Hope this helps!

how would it expand it beyond showing how differently you can represent the same archetypal figure though? like i don't really know how/what to connect it to

You can connect it other archetypal figures throughout history? So you're using your devil thing as your basics, but then have it connect to other situations. Kind of like TOK presentations and how you should connect your first real life situation to other real life situations :)
