My essay is about the function of alcoholic beverages in Eugene O’Neill’s plays from the actors and characters standpoint

For the people that don't know, Eugene O'Neill is a playwrite, but he's mostly known in the New England just because he was from around here...I get alot of blank stares when I tell people my essay topic

well when I was going to do my EE in Enlgish A1 my teacher's advised me not to go with books no one has written commentaries about (I wanted to do it on one of Paulo Coelho's works) but really that doesn't matter, since my friend did hers on a novel and it was basically just another essay on a book.. she didn't use any other sources anyway :D

your topic sounds interesting enough for a good EE :P ignore the blank stares

I got blank stares telling people I do my EE in English A1. I don't know why it was such an unnatural phenonmenon. Everyone was like, "Why?" when they found out. Imagine their reaction when I told them which books.

:D

actually blank stares are given out here when people find out that people've done their EEs in sciences/math rather than a language :P

we practically fight over who gets to do language EEs at my school :D since supervisors are only allowed 5 students.. and it's a pretty small school with not so many supervisors :P

I have been ignoring the blank stares. B) My advisor is not from my school, he's actually a director, so he's been a lot of help for information other than that he has no idea what to do about IB...I'm going to give my essay to a teacher that knows that IB qualifications before I hand it in for good

and thanks, its pretty interesting for now

Everyone at my school is doing a language EE....I think there are a few people doing history, and then I'm doing theatre arts..... One person was thinking about doing physics, I'm not sure if he went through with it...

You wouldn't get blank stares at my school....well, at least not from the IB students :P

Hey Lc, I'm just wondering if your friend did her EE a while ago or if she's handing it in this session. If she already got it back, did she get a good grade without using outside sources? I want to do that too but I'm worried b/c of the rubric, where it asks for scholars' opinions of the book where appropriate.

yea she was the same session as me! she got a C on it, but not because she didn't use outside sources just because she practically worte it like the week before it had to be handed in. I skimmed through it for her... and I didn't really see anything interesting which was not cliche in there... So that getting a C was really generous imo :P her supervisor predicted it a D actually

haha i guess it probably wasn't the sources then. Still sticking to my English EE, which is essentially a comparison of Stephen and Bloom in Joyce's Ulysses. Hope I get higher than a C though

I hope so too :P good luck with that! and hey try google! you might find some random commentaries by random people which might help you to find ideas to discuss. Generally when looking into other resources, it is to find ideas which you might have missed :P so yea if you have enough ideas for your argument then you're good to go :D

I'm doing A1 English. I've already started on it, and it's due on Monday. Can't help being a procrastinator.

My title is: The use of literary techniques used in Upton Sinclair's The Jungle to Convey Socialism as the Perfect Solution to the Evils of Capitalism

Or something like that. I might tweak it a bit to concentrate on the Corruption and Exploitation of Immigrants.

I like the sound of that...mine is "due" on Monday as well... :0

I've changed my thesis slightly...The effect of alcohol on the characters in Eugene O’Neill’s plays, specifically looking at Long Day’s Journey into Night, and A Moon for the Misbegotten...

I spent all of yesterday e-mailing back and forth with my advisors

I thought of comparing these 2 books that were on the general criteria....unlucky.Mine is history, by th way.
Just to let you know, I heard that topics such as yours (History, borderline english, etc) usually result in a bad grade. I've known people who have written brilliantly only to receive a C. Didn't matter though; she went to Harvard. O:

However, if you were to, for example, talk about the accuracy of these books from the historic point of view, that could possibly work out... ;)

Mine's on Price Elasticity of Demand for Railway Tickets. Mmm. seems quite a good topic to write on!

fathead, I'm doing an english EE but I was just wondering how you were planning to stretch 4000 words from price elasticity. I did a similar concept (price elasticity of bus tickets) for my portfolio and I had problems just to reach 700! I think an EE on that topic would be pretty impressive, you must be going really in-depth to reach that 4000 mark.

I'm writing my EE in Psychology: "What is the most likely cause for Dissociative Identity Disorder? Childhood trauma or culturally bound patient-therapist induced delusion?"

I know that my question sounds quite messy, but I'm going to work on it... The first draft is due on Oct. 1, and I've written about 2200 words sofar, but I'm sure I will have to take much away, because I haven't gotten half of my points into those words yet. My effort has been very sporadic, last time I worked on it was three weeks ago. But I'm going to give it a shot again tomorrow. Wish me good luck. :P

Seems a bit broad. You may want to narrow it down to maybe, how she expresses her idea of love through a specific channel, like through the use of language or imagery or something.

Ever considered doing a comparison between 2 poets though? They encourage A1 EEs to be a comparison between 1 authors since a) it gets your title to be a bit more focused as you will have to talk about 2 works, and b ) they just like comparisons in general.

Interesting. For a moment I was thinking of Ci Xi here. :P

Anyway, I'm trying to think how it didn't counter Confucian principles. But then, this period of Chinese history is not one I was ever terribly interested in or overly familiar with.

I wasn't too familiar with this period to begin with either. It's just that the Empress becoming the Emperor made it interesting. Other than that...nothing extremely exciting going on

Mine's in English A1 - An examination of the role of cars and vehicles in Tim Winton's 'The Turning' - Talk about headache material, but I LOVE the book.

In my opinion, a literature EE on harry Potter wouldn't work. Dont get me wrong, I love Harry Potter, and I think it was a great read, and JK Rowling is an absolute genius, but I just dont think that examiners would be very impressed - I mean, it's really a childrens story, and doesnt compare at all with shakespear and the likes. Although I agree that some literature is getting a bit 'done to death', maybe you could go for something a bit more obscure? I've heard that examiners really like reading about things they haven't heard of. :P

Well, I think the idea on Harry Potter would work IF s/he approaches it on a philosophical way. It would be very hard to impress IBO if it was written for literature.

I'm doing mine in history: To what extent the United States' intervention in Bolivia was necessary to prevent the success of Che Guevara's campaing of 1966 to 1967.

It's a little wordy right now, I haven't actually written my first draft yet (just did the intro) so the question is going to change and be refined as I go.

I just wish I had a teacher at my school who knew anything about this topic. We only have history of europe IB teachers, so I'm stuck doing the essay without any tips on what facts I'm missing or could use. Blah!

Hm...I think to make it less confusing, just the title needs a bit fine tuned. Maybe:

To what extent was the United States' intervention in Bolivia necessary to prevent the success of the Che Guevara's campaign (1966-67)?
