SHETTY
Hey guys, I am studying MATH SL and I still have to chose the topic. I am pretty much interested in calculus. And I think optimization is mostly what I am interested in! I am just finding a situation where I can apply it, at One point I though of applying it in agriculture where minimum land and maximum crops. But I dont know how appropriate it is? Could you please suggest me with some! or something else in calculus that I can apply in economics too! Reply
ib_super
Calculus is a good choice and there are many topics within calculus which you can explore. If you are interested in economics, you may like to consider optimization of profit from revenue and cost curves. Reply
SHETTY
Thanks a lot for acknowledging. But don't you think optimization in costs and revenue will be a simple topic? Reply

Without revealing too much, you have to understand that actuary is not a high school level job so there is a lot more in optimization than just setting second derivatives to 0. ib_super
Hi Shetty, I can't reveal much. It really depends on how you approach the topic. Some advance calculus topics may be used here. To score well, you need demonstrate real understanding the mathematics in the topic and show meaningful engagement.
