Taking Pre-IB test for Bayview SS in November. Tips or advice?

Hi,

I did my pre-ib test two years ago. During the information nights, they told us they would be testing the grade 7 and 8 curriculum only (math and english) . So make sure you're comfortable with those concepts. However I also found that there was a bit of content that spilled into the grade 9 curriculum (some of the math stuff). It was nothing that you wouldn't be able to figure out without studying grade 9, but I found having knowledge about the main grade 9 concepts was very helpful. It basically helped me finish the questions faster. I wouldn't say its mandatory, but if you can study some grade 9 content (search up the grade 9 math curriculum in your province). Again, I wouldn't say its 100% necessary for you to do this but it might help.

From personal experience, the majority of the test was mathematics. If I remember correctly, I only had one essay question for the english part. I think they attached a rubric with the question too. However this may vary depending on your school. For English, practice writing essays and responding to questions in a paragraph format.

I don't think you'll be able to find sample pre-ib tests online. But it'll most likely be in a format similar to an exam.

There'll be challenging questions and it's ok if you don't get all of them! I knew I completely flunked a few of the math questions but still had a high score and got in! I was really nervous too, especially in the days after the test because I thought I wouldn't get in (there was soo much competition). Do your best, you'll be just fine!

I, too, will be going to the exams this Saturday at Bayview *nervous*

Good luck! You might be able to find sample questions online on the school's website. I know this is kind of last minute... sorry!

We might be classmates later! ...if I don't fail the test...
