Caitlin111
Hi, My TOK paper draft is due in a little over a week. My teacher said that we need to cite our examples in our paper by referencing the teacher who told us this information. She also told us we have to cite the definitions for terms that we defined as a TOK class. Is this true? Or do we cite a website or book? Additionally, do we have to use real life situations that we discussed in our classes? Reply
IB_taking_over
for our TOK essays, we only cited the Real life situation (RLS) stuff. So if you found your RLS in a news article you would cite that article. As far as TOK terms we didn't have to cite anything - it's implied you learned those in class. Most people don't go around talking about the world in terms of TOK concepts. Now if you are quoting your teacher, you are obligated to cite them. We were told to not use stuff we talked about in class prior to writing the essays. Or at least come at it from a different angle. The only exception was when we talked about the RLSs we were going to use for our essays. Reply
Caitlin111
@IB_taking_over ok, thank you. My teacher also said we are supposed to cite a TOK book? Did you do this? Reply
IB_taking_over
we didn't really use a book at for TOK, so no. We used Man is the Measure for the first semester but it was mostly to give us some understanding how to talk about philosophy. I wasn't aware TOK books actually existed, honestly Reply
