Nuclear Physics in UK

Hi, I am planning on studying physics in the UK (so far with the research I've done cambridge, imperial, durham, leeds, bristol (dont remember if thats the one, think it began with a b :) ) are my top choices).

I am aiming at studying nuclear physics (my end goal is to research for the development of fission power).

I am wondering what sort of courses are available for this. My high school is going to help us with choosing courses in 2 or 3 months, but any extra help is really appreciated.

Does one start with a general physics course, then end up specifying in nuclear physics?

I haven't cut away the possibilities of other studies like particle physics or any physics or chemistry related subjects in general, so anyone who knows someone or is currently taking a physics/chemistry degree could you relate to me your experiences or ideas on the topic?
