AlexHelena
Hello everyone! I'm in IB1, and our EE proposals are due this week! So far my main topic idea is "Themes of magic and dreams in Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’", and I need a novel to compare this with, but nothing is coming to mind. Does anyone have any ideas? And is it too much to focus on dreams and magic? Should I just focus on one of the two, or is it alright? I appreciate any input!!! biochem
I personally would do magic only. In a well-written and analyzed essay, I know I could knock out that play based on only analyzing the magic part. But comparison's are always best. So..nothing is coming to mind here either. I am sorry. just wanted to tell u u could do it on that play only. But when i go through the week, thinking of book,s will give u a more through reply. Sorry and best of luck Reply
Aether
Yep, I will also base in only one topic.. and be sure to define really well what you mean by magic or dreams, whatever you choose. From what I read from Shakespeare however, I don't think I can recommend anything to compare it with.. Reply
Flippy
What if you combined dreams and magic into "magic realism" instead? That would sound more critical, and there are plenty of works which come under the category of magic realism. Reply
I would definitely stick to either dreams OR magic, not both. I've looked a lot at the requirements for essays and the do's and don'ts. One of the major things that they will dock you down for is being too general or broad. It's preferred that you be as precise as possible and give a really detailed analysis. Sandwich
For the twisting of reality, how about the Magus by John Fowles? Epic novel, that one! Reply
balloon
Why not keep it within the same context and compare the magic in a midsummer night's dream with macbeth? There are very different usages of magic and there can be plenty of interesting contrasts. Reply
