blackroserei
Hi, I'm doing my Hist IA and I began my essay on Idi Amin with my question, "How accurate is the film, “The Last King of Scotland” in portraying both Idi Amin and his dictatorial rule ?" First off, I have no idea whether this is a good question to begin with. And in a classic display of procrastination, I failed to REALLY research before I began to write the paper and I can't find many sources (just one) comparing the movie version of Idi Amin and Idi Amin himself. I also found a documentary on Idi Amin called "I knew Idi Amin" and I was going to try to compare their observations with the movie version of Idi Amin. I need help knowing if my question is a good one and if I'm going in the right direction. I don't want to have to start all over but as a last resort I have a question about Mao, "To what extent was the Cultural Revolution responsible for Mao's continuation of power in the PRC?" blackroserei
Does no one have any suggestions? Edited March 14, 2009 by blackroserei 1 Reply
Vvi
Comparing a movie and the life of someone sounds like a bad idea for a History IA. It's not historical, and there are no historians viewpoints on it. You should pick an area where there are conflicting viewpoints/interpretations of events, as then you can compare them and conclude which one you believe is the most justified. I think you will have to start again. Mao Tse Tung is an overdone topic, but if pressed for time then I suppose you can do an IA on the topic you suggested. It sounds appropriate and within the scope of a 2000 word IA. Reply
LinuxBeta
I swear I thought I saw that Mao topic somewhere...either in the EE booklet or in an IA sample. In any case, that topic may take you more time than another topic. There are lots of books on Mao, and soring through them and trying to find historians' views is a pain. I picked a very narrow topic with only about 4 specialists in the world on the topic. It went pretty well. Reply
leepsyle
Yeah, you need a different topic. Idi Amin is very interesting so you might still want to use him but discuss history, not a movie. Don't even mention the movie. Reply
