AtouchofSoul
Hello,I'm currently working on finalizing on a topic for my Extended Essay. I want to write about the use of the French horn in the piece "An American Elegy" by Frank Ticheli. As a French hornist, I wanted my research to be in relation to the uses of the instrument, and I absolutely love this piece. I want to connect the use of the horn to the tale the piece is supposed to tell--it's a tribute to the murders at Columbine High school. Any critiques/comments/tips/approvals/disapprovals of the topic?Heh, thanks so much. Reply
Biowiz
That sounds like a really interesting topic and my EE is along the same lines only with flute music. The only thing i would say is that you should look at the music EE criteria because it specifies that you should write about the music itself. This means that you have yo focus on the actual music and try not to go into a lot of detail about the instrument. Reply
AtouchofSoul
Yeah, that's what my advisor mentioned too. He also said it might be difficult to write 4,000 words on such a specific topic, but I'm not sure how to broaden it. Any thoughts? Reply
Biowiz
My ee is focusing on one composer rather than one specific piece. I'm not sure if this is applicable to you?You could also find another piece that you like and do a comparison. Reply
AtouchofSoul
Oh, that's a good idea. A look into the use of the horn in Ticheli's works in general...hmm. Thanks, I'll keep your suggestions in mind Reply
