Maybe this is just because I'm still only 2 weeks into it but I think it's quite easy. The only trouble I've had is with time management to get my homework done, since it technically doesn't count towards your final grade I just don't feel any pressure to do it despite the fact I know I need to

IB is hard. terribly hard. i once got shot at with a shotgun at point blank right at my chest in -100 Kelvin with a tapeworm and a dinosaur roaring in my ear. in the rain. and i live to tell the story that it was nothing like the IB.
How true...austin...how true.

honestly, the first year of IB wasn't that bad, it was like breezing through the year. Not sure if its because my school is a round square school and that theres loads going on or I wasn't really feeling it. But now everything seems to be piling up in year 13.
I just can't imagine how great it feels once I finish!

Yeah it piles. And then you have this awesome fun period where you do about 3 mythic all-nighters in the space of a week in a mad rush to finish your extended essay, TOK, world lits and IAs. This is why you need to build up a caffeine tolerance early.
Or you could not procrastinate, but where's the fun in that?

It's quicksand, the more you struggle the more it will suck you in

lol it's like a lake of acid. if you paddle all the way you'll just reach the end and move on with life, but if you don't, the boat will do fine, maybe shake a little bit in the waves, and suddenly the acid will eat a hole in it and you'll sink.

haha yea it will sink you but oh well... and on top of that going to a private catholic school makes it even harder

There's no way you can say that's applies to everyone. Plenty of people can cruise through the first year and still finish well, because everyone learns/studies differently.

Where is the "tedious but unrewarding" option in the poll?

I wholeheartely agree with grumps. there should also be a division into subjects, so i can give my opinion on spanish.

It's definitely challenging. what i hate about it is how US universities do not recognize it. they have ridiculous minimum grades for IBers and they don't give advance credits or anything unless you get a 7 in your higher level subjects.
A lot of kids at my school got accepted into schools with conditional offers. Due to this pressure to live up to their predicted grades, they tragically failed.
In short the IB gives you so much unncessary pressure and is unrewarding at the end of the day

Honey, Its a single sex boarding school....SO HAVING SEX WOULD BE A REALLY REALLY[ BAD IDEA.
But yeah I guess the most important thing we learn is time management and getting things prioritized in yur life.
My grades really suffered when I joined this boarding school in Grade 7. I only BEGAN getting better when I was in 10th grade.

i think the IB gets considerally harder in IB2, that said it doesn't get much harder but still more challenging.

Seems like everybody is having an easy peasy IB1 year but a terribly torturing IB2.
IB is not that hard if studying is the only thing you do..

You know what's funny? 40 posts of IB students expressing in imageries and metaphores of how hard/evil IB is. That says it all!
I have no idea why I haven't seen this before.
IB1 is not hard, it's like a normal school year, perhaps because I wasn't used to IB yet and I had no idea what it expected from me. The only thing that was different is the amount of things we studied, for example Biology HL, we finished 75% of the syllabus in IB1. Of course no IAs during that year.
It started becoming hard towards the end of IB1, when we were first introduced to the first Math IA and TOK presentation along with 2 lab reports for biology. It got a bit stressful during the summer when I was finishing off my EE..that's when I started having this scary feeling that IB2 isn't going to be nice to me.
IB2 -----> EVIL
From the first week: Bio lab reports, Chem lab reports, EE 2nd draft, TOK presentation, english IA, Arabic A1 world lit, CAS HOURS..etc..etc
When I keep saying IB is hard, I don't mean the material you have to know/understand/memorize. The only thing hard about IB is dealing with the amount of assignments you have the whole time, pop quizzes, teachers constantly telling you you're not doing enough and that we have IB EXAMS in X weeks, plus dealing with stress in order to prevent a nervous break down. Once again, not from the material it self, but from the whole thing. Not to mention uni applications, SATs, Personal statement, chasing after teachers for a reference. Plus, teachers have no mercy, and they keep saying "welcome to IB", they expect you to study 30 hours a day. You go complaining to a teacher of having too many IAs to do and that they should push the deadline a bit? All you get is a shrug and an evil smile "this is IB! You knew what you're getting yourself into", and of course, that just makes you feel so ANGRY you will put the anger on the first person that talks to you.
I wasnt sure what you meant by 'rewarding' but I took it the way I understood it. The most important thing I got was dealing with stress and managing my time.
Yes, exactly, but if you have EE to get done, unis to apply for..and so on. It is stressful.
I sometimes wonder why they can't put some IAs in IB1.
Perhaps I would agree with you people above. Challenging is more accurate than 'hard'.
IB gave me hell, stress and messed up social life, yet, I don't regret taking IB.
Does that mean I have been victimized by IB? Maybe...
