  1. In Topic: Longest Books Ever Read

I'm going to be controversial and say that I don't think it's an achievement to read a long book.

I think it's an achievement to plough through a book which is as dull as ditchwater. It doesn't necessarily matter about its length -- although these are the only sorts of books where the more content you have, the higher the factor by which overall boredom is multiplied. This is therefore the only circumstance where a longer book might be a greater achievement than a shorter book... and by achievement, I mean proud display of masochism :P Personally I've never liked being masochistic, so would prefer to replace 'achievement' with 'dubious personal choice' and leave it at that!

Haha true. I consider it an achievement that I actually eventually read all of Heart of Darkness which bored me to tears while I was supposed to read it for IB and never actually finished it for IB. I really didn't feel any better for having read HoD. I have a passionate dislike for that book, even though I understand all the fuss around it and why people consider it great literature (and it is).

Possibly my greatest display of masochism must had been to plough through the entire Twilight series.

In all seriousness? I don't really pay attention to how long the book is, because if it's a good book (by which I mean I enjoy it and get really into it) then I would get through it in one night if I have that time. So the long and short of it is that I don't remember what the longest book I ever read was.
  2. In Topic: marked down for spelling mistakes in history?

The OP is asking whether IB examiners mark down, and according to their policy they should not, unless they absolutely can't understand what you're talking about because of spelling mistakes.

And the fact that you come from a left-wing country, IB might penalize you more so you don't make that mistake again..

That is the single most ridiculous thing I've ever heard regarding IB.

    Not to mention,

 How will they know and why would they care?

Anyway, even if you did badly in one essay, you did decently in Paper 1 and the other essay and your IA you'll be fine. In a few years you wouldn't care less.

Yes that's the one! I think I called it the Luthanasia

Haha true, you should be more worried that they might not be able to recognise the letters to realise you spelt it wrong :P
  5. In Topic: forgot to fill in...

    May 14, 2010 - 08:33

Yes but I meant, right after the exam, the invigilator will check your paper and then is allowed to fill it in. But as long as the pages don't go missing, it's fine.

btw Hien, I went ahead and tried to update my math portfolio files with the marks I had been awarded and my "roots of i" file turned into a second "series and inductions" file O_o Back for 5 mins and already causing trouble, haha. Anyways, if you can fix it, I got a 18 or 19 on my roots of i and 17 on series and induction. Ty ^^
