Hi! I'm currently deciding on a title for my historical investigation. I thought about something connected with the women's role during Spanish Civil War but I don't know whether there is something to write about it. Also, I need to create a research question and I don't want it to be too broad, any ideas? Regards Weronika

My question reads as "To what extent did the media's portrayal of the Vietnam war lead to the withdrawal of the United States?". Do you guys think this will be a good question? Also I would appreciate a few tips regarding finding resources. Thanks a lot in advance.

Historians, I am attending History Higher Level and, since I really enjoy History, I have been pissed because I cannot get more than a 5... I hate Paper 1, the questions are so obvious and brief that I don't even know what to say, should I write like a lot and say a lot of bull****? Or should I say the least as possible and write just a few lines? If so, what should I say then? Under what structure? The Paper 2... well, that one I particularly enjoy as I can say what I want and write a much as I want, and embellish it with those speech connectors that every big answer needs to be organized and coherent. Nevertheless, I can only get 5's and I was hoping I could g…

Hey, I was wondering if I can use a university research paper as a source for my IA, if I cite properly (as I was planning to do ). I'm not entirely sure if it collides with the Academic Honesty policy.

Dear historians, As to the authoritarian states (20th century), within the World History topics (seen on History Guide), I studied at school Hitler and Stalin. As their from the same region, I kinda needed another one, If I am going to prepare myself for the "two tyrants comparison question". Yeah there s always a question in which they ask you to compare and discuss two tyrants from different regions as to a certain aspect (propaganda, use of force, religion, role of women in their kingships, etc.). So,as my teacher isn't going to lecture any more tyrants (he told me that) because he thinks we have given enough on other topics and we are prepared to answer anot…

I am having trouble coming up with the topic of my history IA. I was thinking of doing " How did Caeser's death impacted the Roman Empire?" Do you think this topic will be ok? And if not do you have any suggestions on how I could improve it?

Hello, so I'm not sure wether my research question seems interesting or if it's narrow enough, I really need help. My question is,"In what ways was the 1953 Cuban revolution influenced militarily and ideologically by the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution?" Should I change topics or try to be more specific? Any thoughts?

Hello! So I've done the majority of my IA and I feel fairly confident about it but I'm so lost in regards to Section 3: Reflection. I've read the official IB guide but I still don't fully understand how to go about it and what I should write. Can someone please clarify for me what exactly section 3 is asking for/what is expected and, if possible, provide me with an example of such a reflection? Thanks in advance!

Hey, I was thinking about doing a History EE and have thought about some preliminary topics that I will go on to research about. The only thing that might make this difficult is that I don't do History, but previous students at my school have done a History EE even though they did not do history. I was wondering how one would go about doing a history EE, and how would you go from a starting topic (i.e The Iranian revolution) to a developed EE research question? Thanks!

Hi! I'm currently deciding on a title for my history investigation. It's probably going to be something like: To what extent was the Soviet Union responsible for the start of WWII? What do you think? Is it too broad? Should I maybe rephrase it? Or should I think of something completely new? Thanks in advance!

Hi! So I've taken my history exam in May 2016 but I'm unhappy with my results so I'm going to be re-taking it again in November 2016. I know that there is a new guide for history in 2017. Does this mean that the exam I will be taking in November will still be based on the old guide? Am I right to think that the exam I took in May will be pretty much the same to what I'll take in November? Thank you in advance. P.s. sorry if this question was asked before. I'm new and I didn't seem to find anything on this topic so decided to ask myself.

Hi, I´m writting my Historical IA about russia between 1920 and 1938 and I wanted to know if this is a good research question "How did stalin's five year plans differ from lenin's new economic policy?" or if I simply stay by researching about stalin´s five year plan?

Hey, everybody! I have two questions right now for my History IA and I want to combine them. They are as follows: "To what extent Treaty of Versailles played an important role in Hitler’s rise to power?" and "To what extent the phrase 'a war to end all wars' fairly reflects World War 1?" As a source, I was thinking the movie "Hitler: The Rise of Evil" for the 1st question. I need one more source. What do you think in general about these questions? Should I combine them? Any comments would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Hi there! Could you give me your opinion on the research question of my EE? Here are my 3 ideas: 1,2) What were the reasons for the failure of the Allies to stop the Holocaust/rescue the victims of Nazi genocide? 3) What were the reasons for not taking a decisive action by the Allies to rescue the victims of Nazi genocide? Which one sounds the best? Do you have any other advice to edit it somehow? Thank you for any advices!

Hey guys So when my history teacher went through the draft of my history IA, in section C, he said to remove the paragraphs on the limitations of the sources. But according to the IB history guide, section C is marked on origin, value, purpose and limitation so I'm not too confident with my teacher's recommendation. Any thoughts? Also, is it safe to say that considering our own teachers mark our IAs (with only a few moderated), it would be better to just do what our teachers say regardless? Thank you!

Hey guys I'm doing a history EE on the south african apartheid, my question is already approved and I have some points to talk about I just want to know if they are good/if I forgot anything import To what extent was Nelson Mandela responsible for the transition from apartheid to democracy in South Africa by 1995? Although Nelson Mandela served a profound impact in the process of transitioning apartheid to democracy, other factors played an equal if not more profound role in the transition. Other Factors I'll talk about: During the 1980 sustained protests, gorilla attacks, International pressure and economic decline we can the aparth…

My investigation question is: To what extend did women´s involvement in ww1 contribute to gender equality in Great Britain? What do you think? My teacher said it was great, but I think it is not narrow enough. I would have to focus on their women´s role before, during and after the war as well as other factor that contribute to their right to vote. What do you think?

I now know that the historical investigation has been changed from last years (or a couple years back). Instead of sections A - F, it is now only 3 sections. A - C. A) Identification and evaluation of source (6 marks) B) Investigation (15 marks) C) Reflection (4 marks) Can anyone who scored in the 7 (or 6) range help me out with how I should appropriate the word count? I obviously know that the investigation should have the vast majority, but since it has been shortened from sections A - F to A - C, should I look at last year's HI syllabus and bundle some of the earlier sections together to form A, some of the middle sections together to form B, and s…

Hi! I´m currently working on my history IA. Its on british women and their right to vote (1918). My teacher suggested using a primary source and I found a speech of Emmeline Pankhurst on women´s desire to get political rights. My school uses APA citation and I don't know how to cite this for C. Evaluation of sources. It is in this book: https://books.google.com.pe/books?id=9EWOp_AgxfQC&pg=PA6&dq=freedom+or+death+emmeline+pankhurst+full+speech&hl=es&sa=X&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=freedom or death emmeline pankhurst full speech&f=false but it also contains other speeches. So should I just mention it and focus on the speech?

I wanted to do the topic: Were the middle-eastern mandate system, league of nations and German reparations terms of the Treaty the best you could expect for the times? But is it alright to list three separate areas to investigate and answer them separately (since it's all part of the same treaty), or is this not good and will lose marks? Thank you!!!

I'm trying to decide on one of my SL classes. It's either going to be History or Psychology. The problem is that my school only offers "Turkey in the 20th Century" as History class. I don't know if it will be useful while applying to colleges in the US, as I will only learn about Turkey. On the other hand, Psychology isn't very related to my career choices, as I want to study Law, Economics or Politics. Any recommendations?

I am very interested in Ancient Rome and Greece and their mythology, but not sure how to put that into an IA title. I need to have written part B by Wednesday, could you please help me to dig out a research topic? would be eternally grateful!

Hi. I have recently finished my History SL p1 and p2. For last two years, I've learned French Revolution, Russian Revolution, Treaty of Vienna, WWI, Chinese Civil War, Rise of Mao, Rise of Hitler, and weimar republic at the end. Our school in really small, so SLs and HLs take the class together in one room. Like a few months ago, I've heard that if I am doing SL, I didn't have to learn almost half of the things that I have learned. Basically, my teacher combined SLs and HLs together to teach HL materials. It's OK for me because I liked learning French Revolution and Russian Revolution. But, now that I am finished, I think our teacher could have done better job in making s…

Heyo So I'm taking my exams starting Monday. I talked to a friend today about History, and we were rather confused. I'm a HL student, she's a SL student. However, apart from HL studying more topics and having more lessons and the extra paper 3, we couldn't really find any differences in the levels when it comes to the criteria and grade breakdowns. Is this true? Because to me, it seems a bit odd that there is no difference in the assessment between the levels, as there is in all by other subjects.

I'm revising for the paper 2, and I find it extremely confusing to sort out the results of collectivization under Stalin. I know that politically, it can be considered a success for eliminating the kulaks, but economically, how successful was it, say, by WWII? The information I've been seeing on the Internet seems to be contradictory to each other. Some claim it a great success while others claimed that production declined towards the end, or even that production started out poorly but improved greatly by the time war broke out. I'm really confused because economic results should be very quantifiable and statistically-based. Which is the truth??
