I am an IB student that has 3 sciences, chemistry, biology and physics. My concern is regarding the format of the individual investigation. Can i use the same format for all 3 sciences or is it necessary to have a different format for each????? Also can i use some sentences from my other individual investigation????

I want to pursue Economics at college, so my full concentration would be on mathematics hl and economics hl. But I have to choose a subject at sl level in experimental sciences and Im looking for a subject which requires a very less time and is easy to score. I am thinking of choosing bio sl , ess sl or computer science sl. I really love suggestions on other subjects as well. Thank you.

I have been developing a website as part of my CS IA using bootstrap which has lots of inbuilt javascript which can be used for navigation bars and other GUI features. Will customised javascript get me more marks if I use it alongside server-side scripting for forms? Does the use of inbuilt javascript cause a reduction in marks?

I am planning on making a website for an upcoming MUN in school, is it appropriate to do it as a CS IA? I ask this since my teacher felt it isn't 'complex' enough and the code can be generated using dreaweaver or something. I intend to use Bootstrap, Jquery and google app engine/

I took honors chemistry I this year and did very well in it, but I'm worried that my math skills won't be able to get me through HL chem. I've only taken algebra I and geometry in the American high school math curriculum and I plan to take math studies for IB. Advice?

Hi, I wanted to get everyones opinion on if I should switch from Bio HL to Chem SL. 1. I'm already taking Geo, History, English at HL 2. My math and memorizational skills are poor 3. I struggled with balancing equations and whatnot in 10th grade so I choose Bio, however I want to know if the addition of another HL workload will hurt me more than brushing up my chemistry skills. Thanks in advance!

I am planning on beginning to write my physics and chemistry IAs this summer and am wondering on how many words it should be. I know there isn't an exact guideline to the word count system of the IAs but does anyone know what amount of words may be best recommended and suitable? Heard some wrote 4000 words+... which is longer than the extended essay... Thanks in advance!

Hello! so I soon have to choose my IB subjects and im kind of stressing out about it. Currently im doing the IGCSE course and getting 7 in physics, 5-ish on additional maths (started getting 6s now that I realised that I have to actually put in work which I didnt have to before when I didnt have additional) (usually 7 on the extended/standard work and tests that we do as homework) and 7 so far in chemistry. Im doing a subject my school calls Social Studies and on the small part of economy we did this year (economic commentary) I got a 5. So, as mentioned I have to choose my IB subjects relatively soon. I want to take HL maths as most universities require this. Before I st…

Hi, My sports, exercise and health science teacher asked me to do my IA, I'm really lost and confused because as this is a new course for the IB there is rarely no notes in the internet or advice about the IA to the course. I'm not really sure what I need to do in a sports, exercise and heath science IA. The topic I choose is does the heart rate of a person increase as the intensity of the activity increases? What do you guys think about it? is it a good topic for my IA?

So I have been told that there is no word limit for IAs...but I don't know why, one of my IAs is 5,000 words (the other ones are around 4,000). It is probably not recommendable because it is really time-consuming, but can you actually get penalized? I mean, should I go back and summarize it or get rid of sections?\ Thanks a lot

Bio HL or Chem HL?

I'm in my first year of IB and I'm changing schools. Currently I'm doing both HL chem and HL bio, but at my new school I get the option of choosing one of the two. I'm a student who genuinely dislikes the sciences and you might wonder why I'm doing two of them currently and that's because I had no other choice. Anyways, I just thought it would be helpful to hear other people's opinions on this. Basically, a. which is easier? b. which is more suited for a humanities person? To help steer your recommendations I think it's useful to know I've only taken a year of each before starting the IB programme. Bio I did in ninth grade but had a really good teacher and cover…

Hi all, I am currently writing a Design Lab for a Physics Lab Report. The aim of the task is to dip a resistor in a calorimeter filled with Deionized Water and measure the heat energy by the temperature rise in the water. The issue I am facing is whether I can actually obtain Deionized Water. Is it possible to make Deionized water in a school lab? If not, are there any alternative methods anyone could suggest to measure the heat energy of a resistor? Are there any alternatives to water, that I could use in the calorimeter? I need this information before Sunday!!!! Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone, I am entering the IB Diploma programme by next academic year and I'm a bit confused with my group 4 subjects. I have chosen Chemistry but I am going to take Business or Chemical Engineer for my bachelor's degree.... Should I change my group 4 into Physics or what? NB: I'm not really good in memorising, I have better background in Chemistry than in Physics and Biology, and I can choose only 1 science subject. Thanks a lot.

I take IB Physics and Chemistry, both at SL level. And my teachers both asked me to write an IA about viscosity. Is it possible to submit the same IA for both subjects? Since the topic is the same and I can investigate the same property (Temperature) while it still being relevant for both Physics and Chemistry. Is there any rule regulating against it? What if I was chosen within the sample to be moderated and my teachers both sent the same IA? Anyone ever done this? Thanks

Hi, Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can find notes for the 2016 syllabuses? Specifically biology and chemistry HL. So far, I've only been able to find the previous years, and I'm okay looking through those but it becomes a tad difficult when searching for say chapter 1, which used to be statistical analysis or something to that effect, but is now cell biology. Thanks!

Hello! Unfortunately my school does not offer the science classes that I would like to take (Physics HL or Chem HL), but I'd still like to take one of my group 4 classes as an HL. That being said, the only two options are Bio HL and Computer Science HL, and Bio is absolutely not an option (I'd give the teacher an F--- if I could!). However, while computer science sounds interesting to me, I have absolutely no experience or knowledge of this subject whatsoever and I'm a bit worried about signing up for it. For the moment, I'm signed up for IB Physics SL, Business HL, and Economics HL (amongst my others), but in the case that I do decide to take computer science I'd swi…

OK so my school is currently doing subject selection and i'm a sophomore so I'm about to choose all my IB classes, and its a tad overwhelming but i've narrowed my science choices to HL bio or HL chem without telling what I'm good at or more interested in, (esp. since i don't really know...;/ ) which is easier? HL BIO or HL CHEM? i know bio is more memorizing and chem has more applied math and concepts, but say, for someone who has no science background or has no specialties, etc. what should they take out of these 2? and for considering someone on their strengths and weaknesses the only thing i really learned in biology in like 8th grade was evolution and ecology. i loved…

Hi there! I just wanted to know if you have to include introduction or background information for DCP and CE lab reports? Would including it fetch any extra marks? Also, I was a little confused regarding the format because, some DCP and CE lab reports seem to start right from the Raw Data collections whereas some lab reports also have Aim, Hypothesis, Apparatus and Procedure written. Which one is the best method to be followed? Thanks for the time!

So I know we do the group 4 project at our school in October next year (our 12 year). When do you do your internal assessment lab thing? How many people are in a group for the IA and the Group 4? When do people start working on these? Do we get to choose what we do? If someone could also explain G4 Project further that'd be good Im in Bio HL Chem HL if that matters

Okay, so the IB coordinators strongly discourage all students from taking two HL sciences. However, I had really been planning on taking HL Chem and HL Bio. In my school (not sure if it's this way everywhere--USA insists on doing everything differently) you take the first year of the science (ex: IB Chem I)and then choose if you want your second year of that science, if you choose to take it, to be HL or SL. The first year is about the pace of an SL class. Pretty much all the sciences in my school are that way except Bio, which you must declare as an HL in grade 11. So, my question is, is taking two HL sciences as hard as everyone makes it sound? Or is it doable? Right no…

What did you feel we're the hardest parts of Chemistry and Biology, and why? I have some spare time in first semester so I can actually prepare ahead a bit because I really want high scores in my sciences. -pretty damn good but not godly memory -not too mathy-going pretty well in SL math but wouldn't dare open an HL book -didn't take either bio or chem at grade 11 level -will be studying from the brand new syllabus -both are HL -hate ecology with a passion (I hope that's easy) -pretty much nothing I hate from chemistry, although I still get some terms mixed up (mole/molecule/particle) Thanks!

Okay, so I started at a new school this year where they offered the dp ib which I had never been fully aware of prior but I of course decided to go into it. I'm a junior and just started my second semester. At my previous school, in 10th grade, I took chemistry and had straight A's the whole year whereas when I took bio in 9th grade I was struggling to maintain a B. Because of that I decided to take Chem HL. That said, I have changed a lot in the way I learn since then, considering bio is more memorization and taking notes and just studying (from what I've learned) and that's really how I study and learn best now and chemistry is more comprehension and applying what you…

Hi guys! I'm taking my exams in May 2016, and beginning to look over material that we have covered so far (crazy, I know. I'm not going to have any time in the next few months!) and I was wondering- in the new syllabus, does anyone know how much of the nature of science aspect do we need to know? What kind of questions could be asked in the exams relating to nature of science? I've seen a few posts about it, but I was wondering if it changed a lot between the old syllabus and the new syllabus. Thanks

Hi guys, I know this will be unlikely. But does anyone have copies of the new syllabuses for 2016 in Physics and Chemistry, As you all know, the syllabus is going to be changed. The syllabuses were released to teachers in december of 2016, but I want to have a look at their content for some personal reasons. So if anyone has a copy of the syllabuses, please send them to me! You can attach them as files in your replies or send an email to n_______ Thanks.

Which chapters are the most important in the first year of HL Chemistry HL Biology? I have spare time during break and some more time for the rest of this semester and I just want to study ahead a bit. Which chapters are generally keys for the grade 11 year? Hello! So basically I will start the IB1 in August, and I am having a hard time deciding for a Group 4 subject to take at HL. Look at my subjects: English A L&L HL Swedish B SL History SL Bilogogy HL Maths. HL Physics SL I have previously taken the preIB abd the IB1 years in a different school, in a different country, but my subjects were literally all different, except for bilogy. I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but I do understand concepts well, and have it rather easy connecting the dots and getting the big picture. But I always have a terrible time in lab practices and even when covering theoretical topics about organs, blood, illnesses! I don't have the guts…

Could someone please confirm to me that those in November 2015 session are still using the old 2009 syllabus?

Hi For my Biology IA Lab report i did the pill bug expiration with two debris dishes. I used two different yellow and blue light. I cant come up with a good research question. My last one was Research Question: Between the light rays of blue and yellow, what is the pill bug favorite light color according to their living needs. In this lab we had to record the number of pill bugs present in each dish every 30 second and see which side do they prefer. They usually want danker sides and hate light and heat in general because light damages their breathing systems.

I'm currently near the end of my first year as an IB student and we are now required to select our HL and SL subjects. I'm taking Biology and Chemistry and am unable to decide which to take at HL and which to take at SL. Just some background information, none of the courses I aim to get into for University require me to do Chemistry or Biology at HL. Additionally my math is strong and I do not really mind all the memorizing that is required with the Biology syllabus. So which science is it wiser to take at HL keeping in mind that the aim is to achieve the highest IB score I can? Thanks.

Guessing its the same for lots of you too; newbies post your ideas on projects, veterans post things you've done/seen work in the past. Academic dishonesty is bad, y'all. Just brainstorm and give credit when it is due. Dankeschön, P.
