Okay, I realise that not many people here must do Philosophy given the general lack of posts about it, but I was wondering if anybody felt like sharing any useful links or tips about revision, resources etc. Particularly with regard to set texts A few places/things I've found very useful: IB Philosophy at Pearson College Page http://peernet.lbpc.ca/Philosophy/contents.htm Notes on: Philosophy of Religion, Political Philosophy, Plato's Republic, Nietzsche's On the Genealogy of Morals, Rousseau's Origin of Inequality (Social Contract), Solipsism, Descartes' Meditations (summary) and various smaller topics. I have philosophy internal assesment due in March, and I can't seem to think of a stimulus for my essay. My task is to find a non-philosophical stimulus and apply the ideas of other philosophers to comment on the stimulus i have chosen. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. =D

*NOTE: while I am still completing this, I shall post it and then be 'editing' updates to it, to avoid losing it, and be able to pause!* Hey everyone! Currently revising for my paper one philosophy mock, and figured I'd pull my revision together to make a huge thread attempting to help fellow philosophers. I'm not sure how the course differs between SL and HL therefore if this will be of much help to SL students. Additionally, it is worth noting that my optional themes are ethics and religion, so no epistemology/politics/art... Sorry! I'm not arrogant enough to assume I have everything, so if you have anything to add, please do so! If you find this thread helpful, a reply…

Several questions: How hard is it to get a 7 on IB Philosophy? Will reading summaries - e.g. Sparknotes - be sufficient for Paper 2? How are the essays graded? I know that each essay is out of 30 points. But how do the graders determine how many points you get? Do you get a point for each name you drop? Do you also get "quality of construction" marks? Where can I find a markscheme?

Hey, I'm really trying to get a 7 on my Geography IA, as Geography is my best and favourite subject and I don't want a mediocre grade to affect that. Can anyone give me some tips as what to do and not to do? And anywhere I can find an actual rubric that I can print out? Cheers.

Let's talk about the World Religions internal assessment! Yay! I've received my assessment to start over the summer and as I am feeling sick with nothing to do I might as well start it. I have no idea where to start though,; not even the religion I'd like to study in. So I started this because I didn't see another topic like this; however if there is one please had me in the right direction as I'd like help with my IA. What was your WR IA topic? Or are you in the same place I am? How did you come about picking something to investigate? I'd love to hear all about it -Katie

Hey people. I´m in a hurry, and would like to receive suggestions. I must develop a website for my ITGS Project. My client is the director of a school, and wants me to create a website for the community of the school. Being it a communitary website, it will have the need to be updated constantly with school announcements, photos of events, etc... My problem arises at this point. I need to find a website creating tool that gives me the opportunity to develop 3 or more complex techniques, but at the same time, can be updated by computer dummies. Everyone at the school sucks at technology, so I need to offer them a website editing tool that is extremely simple for them to u…

Hello everybody I am doing Geography at HL and I have to start planning my fieldwork (and finish it quite soon). As I have been absent from school since 3 months because of health problems, I'm forced to think it up and collect data on my own I really love geography and would like to do something of value, but I'm struggling to find an appropriate topic I'd prefer to avoid anything connected with big cities (that doesn't feel like my cup of tea). I live near a river - but I believe it would be extremely difficult to collect data by myself, with no special equipment (I suppose my school doesn't have it). The same with soil degradation (there's plenty of farmland nearb…

Hi everyone, We were asked to think of an IA topic in Computer Science, so I came up with an idea but I'm not sure whether it is acceptable. I thought I could make an application that helps IB students manage their CAS portfolio. So basically, there will be a database storing proposal and reflection forms, and students can fill it up and all this data will be stored in a database. Is this topic acceptable? Thank You.

No resources for this subject whatsoever. I don't like the online WIKI's Is anyone kind enough to share there notes?? Teacher isn't the best He gives us tests out of nowhere, on stuff we never touched it doesn't make sense. Eg. we study storage devices, he gives us a test on LAN, and excel.

Hello!! Im currently trying to revise for my predicted grade exams, and its really taking its toll on me My teacher refuses to give us ANY past paper questions, as she says that "there are too little of them and we need to choose what to put in the exam". I do understand what she means, but I really want to test myself with questions and do well! I can't find any online either. If any of you have any access/websites which have past paper questions that you could share, i love you!

After being told by our teachers for 2 years that we should use the term "HIC (highly industrialised countries)/ LIC (less industrialised countries)", rather than the usual MEDC/LEDC, I still doubt whether this is right or not since I have not yet come across a single textbook that uses the HIC/LIC terms. What would you say? Many thanks!

Hello! So i have to choose my IB subjects fairly soon. I was planning on choosing HL Maths, physics and chemistry but now hearing how absolutely insane HL Maths is I've decided that i should perhaps drop HL Chemistry.. now i have to choose which subject i should choose instead. I've always thought of myself as "bad" at geography since im bad at knowing where the countries are and names of capital cities etc. Recently i did one test for geography, one for economics, and one for history. On the geography one i got 100%, on the economics one i can't remember but i was one point away from a 7, and on the history one i got 100%. I've always planed on choosing economics but no…

There is no thread in this forum for Geography! And personally I think it is one of the most interesting subjects in the IB course. Although I don't always get the marks I deserve for this subject, I think I learn the most from it. As you all know, case studies are really important in Geo, and I think it would be good if we share some. Let me start of with some Population Pronatalist - Singapore Antinatalist - China, Ethiopia Arid Environments Management - Grand Canyon Land use - UAE Reversal of Desertification - Tunisia Please add more!

I noticed that this isn't part of the "other subjects" forum, nor does it fall into any of the categories that exist. This is an IB subject, and I think you should at least have the syllabus up. Also, do people really not have this as an option? I find it odd, since our school has been offering this subject for a very long time. Is it that schools consider this subject useless? While our cultures are becoming more intertwined, the study of Anthropology has helped me understand much about human nature. In any case, I have attached the syllabus.

Hey guys! We have a new syllabus (as I'm sure all of you know ) for 2014 and I was wondering whether we could all band together and think of a few possible questions they may pose us! If we manage to think of a lot (especially for question 4) we would be much better prepared for this paper, which in my opinion is kinda hard to prepare for. Here's how they structured the specimen paper: 1. Defining terms 2. Applying the knowledge from the case study 3. Extending that knowledge a bit more 4. An essay using knowledge that you researched; for this one you have to have researched and done much more than just reading the case study and learning the terms, if you just did that y…

I have completed comprehensive, 30+ page long note packages which follow every syllabus point for both Topic 6: Oceans and their Coastal Environments and the entire HL extension. I am looking to trade these notes for - Notes on the entire core, complete with case studies - Notes on the Rivers option Anyone interested? I am an anticipated 6 in Geography HL - these are very comprehensive notes, complete with diagrams when needed. I expect your notes to be the same. My sources are class activities, Planet Geography 5th Edition and the Geography Study Guide by by Nagle and Cooke - I have usually picked out case studies from these and supplemented them with my own research. …

Regarding the ITGS IA, does it have to be of an actual client? Can it just be a real situation but the actual personal information be changed? Also out of the possibilities like a database and website and etc., what is easier because I'm SUPER BAD at technology which makes me rethink life and wonder why the hell I'm doing HL ITGS.. (don't ask I'm just really stupid).

For reasons quite complicated and generally tangled, I am considering switching to geography! However, it is now April and I have missed just about the whole first year (I'm taking the May 2011 exams). I also know nothing about geography. My question is: How hard do you find geography, and do you think I'd have a chance if I switched now? Tell me about the IB assessments and what the exams are like and what you do and learn in class!

Similarly, many people today fear that we’re weakening our children’s minds by making them too dependent on computers and calculators. What do you think? 10. What should people be able to do if they have access to computer technology? Can somebody help me with these questions? its for my homework but i cant understand anything...

Hi Our old ITGS teacher left the school October last year. Im doing SL ITGS so it was lucky because I have already covered the 3 topics, although she rushed through them because she knew she was going to leave. The new teacher has no clue of the IB and is wasting my time every lesson because I am the only SL student in the class...and the time is all spent talking about HL cw. What is everyone else doing in their ITGS classes now? I can't even revise because he thinks that listening to what he says to the HL students about their cw will help my writing skills (even though they are fine!) If I ask him anything to do with the coursework, his answer is "google it". Which is …

I've been looking at past papers and it seems to test a lot about computer technology/common sense stuff versus actual programming in Java (we have a combined AP/IB CompSci course at our school so i sat in in a class of AP Computer Science, which is mostly Java programming the entire time). Apparently 0-5 people received a grade 7 out of the 1000++ candidates who were registered in May 2010 for ITGS HL. The year before that was like 12 people who got 7? That really worries me as I'll be taking ITGS HL in May 2011 and the number of people getting a 7 is decreasing session by session! So, this makes me wonder: 1. What makes ITGS HL so unapproachable for a 7? 2. The grade boundaries are very low for a 7 at HL. (Overall for a 7 will be around 71% fluctuating only by about 1-2% per session) So why aren't people getting the 7? 3. Which part of the assessment do people usually trip up at? Paper 1/2/3 or portfolio or extension? I personally believe that the paper 1+…

Hello there, Our chem teacher told us to solve this question; An organic compound contains 58.8% Carbon, 9.8% Hydorgen and 31.4% oxygen by mass. Its moral mass is 102 g mol- a) calculate the empirical formulae b) calculate the molecular formulae It doesn't make any sense to me cuz when I work it out I get C5H10O4. The mass of this compound is 102 so does that mean that the molecular formulae is the same as the empirical formulae

So, my school just began letting us choose our elective class for senior year since Psychology SL is a one year course and I learned that my school will begin teaching Philosophy SL next year and was wondering, how is the class? Is it closely related to Theory of Knowledge? Is the exam or course hard with Philosophy as a subject being a bit more abstract (at least that's how I see it)?

Hi, I am in IB1 this year, and am stuck in between dropping Geography to SL or not. Before I start, does anyone have an effective way of studying Geography? I've not done Geo before and so I am stuck without knowing what to memorise & study. My friends told me to memorise the case studies, but what about case studies? Is it like the location and statistics? I am currently doing 4 HLs (Chemistry, Physics, Math & Geography), and Geo is my back-up subject as from what I know, Math-Chem-Physics HL is a suicidal course. However, I've found that the other 3 HLs are much more manageable than Geography. I'm also predicted a 7 at the sciences and Math but …
