Hi I am a HL Geography Student and we started thinking about what we should do for our IAs today. And I was suggesting the push and pull factors of migration within an international company to my teacher. But she sounded unsure about whether we could do it or not because she apparently read some where that it is not encouraged that we do Populations in Transition. She did say that she will find out if it is a possible idea or not but I wanted to do my own research. If anyone of you have done your IA on Migration please share your experience. Also I am looking for Human Geography IA ideas however, we are very limited because I stay in a very isolated country which do…

Hi, I've been unable to find a syllabus which covers the 2018 November exams for Geography (SL). The only one which I have been able to find is one with years from 2011-2017. Soo, does that mean the current syllabus ('11-'17) will last until 2018 or will there be a new one out soon? Thanks !

Hiya, What optional topics in Geography do you find to be easy? Obviously Hazards and Disaster is one. in my opinion. I am going to self-teach myself an optional topic but I am not sure which one is easy for me to do myself. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I will get immediately down to the problem- I'm DP2 student doing chemistry HL, my IA nightmare started. I'm the only one in my class who didn't manage to get through with my lab within the time period given, my research question was about how changing the concentration of different solutions would change the voltage in a Voltaic Cell. Now I'm rooting for a Database to use, but I can't find a research question suitable to nature of chemistry data available online, I tried computational chemistry but it was either far too complicated based on quantum interactions between elementary particles, or too limited based merely on choosing values to plug in an equation e.g. Nernst…

Hello guys! I'm just a bit desperate right now because I've just realised how absolutely horrible I am at Geography. Honestly, I try to study it for 10 minutes and I just get so frustrated. I just don't know how to approach it, it just feels like there is so so much I need to learn and memorise and I feel like every lesson I'm falling further and further behind. Does anyone have any tips?? How did you survive geo? Ik it sounds silly because everyone tells me about how Geo is supposed to be one of the easiest subjects, but for me it's the one I'm struggling the most with at the moment. Cheers!

Hey everyone, it seems not many people must do philosophy on here as it is not deemed worthy of its own subject block, however I really need help with philosophy essay writing. I seem to always be getting 15-17/25 when I really want to be achieving 20-25/25. If anybody has any helpful hints or advice on how to improve I would be eternally grateful. Thanks in advance xxx

Hello! So i have to choose my IB subjects fairly soon. I was planning on choosing HL Maths, physics and chemistry but now hearing how absolutely insane HL Maths is I've decided that i should perhaps drop HL Chemistry.. now i have to choose which subject i should choose instead. I've always thought of myself as "bad" at geography since im bad at knowing where the countries are and names of capital cities etc. Recently i did one test for geography, one for economics, and one for history. On the geography one i got 100%, on the economics one i can't remember but i was one point away from a 7, and on the history one i got 100%. I've always planed on choosing economics but no…

Hello! I am currently quite confused with some aspects of the Geography course and I thought that I could ask you guys for advice. So, two months into the IB and tomorrow we have our first IB Geography test and I and my classmates are getting a bit worried because our teacher is telling us/making it sound like we need to memorise every little fact and figure we encounter in all of our case studies. I just wanted to ask if this is true? and if so, how do people do it? Right now we're all trying to cram a ton of data from about 10 case studies and we are already feeling as though it is too much. Cheers!! xx

Hello IB folks, I will go straight into my topic. So, my stoichiometry unit exam is in 2 days... (Im grade 11 btw) and I am so stuck on some of these questions.... I am very much familiar with the sub topics (molar masses/conversions/solution/dilution/etc.), but when it comes to actual stoiciometry word problems, I am just stumped... I find it so hard to solve them because often times, I don't know where to start or the approach to the questions...(although not all of them...) I am sitting here with a batch of sample word problems, and they are just so hard to get by because they are worded all differently... And most of all, Im so scared because t…

Hi I have my exam next week and I really want level 7 this time so I wanted to ask for some essay writing tips I always got high 6s in my exams and mainly that was because my essays were around 7/10 and 10/15. I got 29/30 in my internal assessment so I think it's not the knowledge that is missing Could you give me some tips for writing a better essay in exams? I always included case studies with statistics but I guess that wasn't enough to get me the marks...

Hi, I'm just about to start my IB DP and I was wondering if unis would consider ESS for Business as a ''soft'' subject? Also, is taking an ab initio language bad? I would take both of them at SL (+ Maths SL) and English A, Econ and Psychology at HL.

I checked the May 2015 Statistical Bulletin and found out that only around 32 people in the world got 7 for ITGS SL & HL combined. But I should add that only about 3200 people took it. That equates to 1% of the people taking ITGS getting a 7. Is this subject really hard? Or is it because the people who do take it had to do so due to unavoidable circumstances (e.g. clash of timetable)? And if you did take this subject, how hard would you say this subject is on a scale of 1 to 10, compared to your other subjects? Do you find it hard to revise and prepare for this subject because of the lack of resources?

Hi! I would like to know whether the following would be a suitable topic for Computer Science IA : - A database for universities that students can use and it will filter out the the specific university depending on certain criteria's such as grades, subjects, courses. I plan on using Java and Microsoft Access to make this! Do you think this will be a good IA?

I have a very small amount of experience in programming, so it'd be better for me to say I have no experience. So I was wondering if, with this lack of experience, would Computer Science at HL be reasonable, or is it not something people do? Please and thank you.

Hi All, I was wondering for the coming exams, how likely do any of you think that the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will come up as a question? As they were due to be 'completed' at the end of 2015 I personally felt that this must surely be the last year they could ask about them and so would be very likely to come up. Anybody else got an opinion on this?

Hi. Anyone have a case study that I can use for NFL? The outcomes are: Explain the hierarchy of a league and the location of its teams. Examine the relationship between team location and the residence of its supporters. I just couldn't find a source that had the information I needed. If no notes, any particular websites? Hi, I'm taking geography hl, and my teacher told us that for the essay questions in paper 1,2,3, we have to write 750-1000 words. Is this true? Because I searched and I didn't see this requirement in guide or other geography website. Thanks for answering, this concerns me a lot.

I feel like Computer Science was a bad choice for me. It's not like I'm failing or anything, I usually get around 5's (Occasional 6's). We have an amazing CS teacher (Which is one of the reasons I took CS), but still the average of my class is around 2.6 in the tests. And I feel like I'm a level "5" or "6" student cause the grading boundaries are incredibly low as they're graded on the curve so that half our class doesn't fail. For example, the last test was so hard that for a 5 was set as 50%, which might seem as super low. I got 52% on that test and the class highest was 57%. The people are struggling in the class because of this. I don't know if it's just because of th…

Hi guys. I wanted to ask something about Criteria D. At the end of D, there is a part called Agreement of Client. It requires the signature of the client. Our teacher said that we should scan the signature and put it in the criteria like that. However, I used a photo that I took earlier and cropped it and pasted it on the criteria. It is also obvious that it is a photo when you look at the criteria. Do you think will it be a problem?

Hello According to the ITGS guide, the only information that counts for the word count (max 2000 words) is the documentation that "-identifies the client’s problem and explains how the present scenario is inadequate – justifies the rationale behind the choice and development of the IT solution – evaluates the success of the product in resolving the existing inadequacies" My question is, which criteria documentation is this? Crit. A consists of the initial client consultations, while Crit. B is the analysis, so I'm assuming these two count? Which others? thanks a lot to anyone who can help

Hi all, im currently taking Design Technology and currently being the leading student in our school for the Major Projects / IA's. I tend to collaborate with my teachers about issues with the guidelines and many of the problems that tend to arise. If you have recently heard about the new exemplar that has been released with a grade of 47/54 you may have many questions of which may be similar to mine, and that the issue you may also be talking with other students is the lack of attention that this subject is getting. I wanted to discuss the formats of the MP and all issues involving it as I need to hear other persectives. as well as other issues you are having so we can al…

So I just found out that I got a 7 in my mock exam. I was super ecstatic until I found out that I got a 5 in my IA! I honestly was expecting it because I didn't feel like I didn't do that well in my IA. Like I struggled with it for a bit. And a 5 isn't bad if I'm fairly honest. But.. I want to get a 7 in my finals. How can I do that when I got a 5 in my IA? Is there a way for me to still get a 7 in my finals or is it completely out of the picture ? Side note: I also feel like I didn't do that great with any of my IAs, so I'm getting super worried about them bringing down my final grades right now.. /:

hl geo themes

Hey! I have exams coming up and I'm making geography study notes. I want to outline some themes that are prevalent in all of the core components; so: 1. populations in transition 2. disparities in wealth and development 3. patterns in environmental quality and sustainability 4. patterns in resource consumption some themes that I thought connect over all 4 units are - sustainability, global patterns/trends/impacts, and maybe consuming and conserving resources? I feel like I need more though, but I can't think of any. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, do the ones I mentioned make sense?

Hey everyone! Our school does Hazards, Oceans and Extreme Environments as our options, even though many of the people in my cohort have expressed a desire to do the more human geography-oriented options. I'm wondering if anyone has ever disregarded the school's teaching, and self-studied a more interesting option with success? I'd love to disregard Oceans and self-study Urban Environments instead. Thank you!
