1. Just to make it clear - we will not give you a topic for your EE, but we will help you refine and expand on your original ideas for a topic. You are marked on your choice of topic so we can't help you with that.
2. Before doing anything, read the Extended Essay for Dummies thread. At the very least, we recommend you take a look at the 5 Cardinal Rules of the EE!
3. Before asking anything about format or requirements for the extended essay, we suggest you read the IB Extended Essay Guide first (which you can download from here).
4. Make your thread titles descriptive. At the minimum, mention the subject area and if you have one, the topic! For instance "History EE on Nazi Propaganda" is better than "EE help please". The people who know about history and nazi propaganda will click on the first thread and probably miss the second one. Help us to help you - give it an accurate title!

The word limit for the EE is 4000 words. If you go over this limit you lose marks. There is no minimum but for most subjects, you should expect to go above 3500 words. For experiment based subjects like sciences or math you can go as low as 2500 if there is sufficient formulae working (math) or data (sciences) or other things not included in the word count but suffices to show that you've done work on the essay. The word limit for the Abstract is separate and is 300 words. The following are not included in the word count: footnotes, appendices, abstract. Its hilarious to think of a site that is considering helping future students when their time is so limited especially on an IB basis. Hey, I do EE in biology, my research question is: How reliable is HbA1c as a long-term glycemic control marker in individuals with diabetes? and research topic is: Haemoglobin A1c Levels as a Biomarker for Long-Term Blood Sugar Control in Diabetes. I actually wanted to change my topic&question, because I can't conduct a premary research and as i know these essays usually don't get A or B. But my school doesn't have even basic equipment and amt that i cane use in a very simple experiment. What do i do with this now, did someone get a good grade on bio ee with only secondary research?

I'm currently doing a biology EE with the research question: To what extent could stem cell therapy be used in repairing brain damage as a result of neurodegenerative components as seen in progressive diseases such as Alzheimer's? I don't really have any intentions of changing my topic or shifting to a primary research topic, but I was just wondering since I've heard around that secondary research EE's never do so well for science EE's. Honestly a little worried but I really do like my topic and it's something I'm genuinely interested in.

Hi! I've started thinking about my EE- I know I want to do english, but I also know that I want to be a bit different and focus on children's novels. For example, the Tale of Despereuax: I really want to do this novel- but I can't find any secondary sources (like real essays already written on it). Do you think I could do an EE on a children's book as long as I still make full use of finding and analysing literary features? And does anyone have ideas on any good novels I could do? THANKS!!!!!

I am going to be taking the IB next year and as preperation the teachers are making us do a mini extended essay. Im doing my extended essay under A1 and can not think of anything!!! Hiii, I am going to start working on my ee starting this semester (probably in a couple of weeks) and I know I can't use a book we've studied or are going to study/analyze in class, but I was wondering if I can use a book that is a retelling, readaptation by a different author, or inspired from a classic novel. I have a few books that I want to read/do my extended essay on, but I haven't made my mind up yet because of this question. Appreciate the help!

Hello everyone, I am almost done with my EE, but the problem is that my EE is purely theoretical, hence I don't know what kind of errors to put in my evaluation. I just finished Q1 in the first IB year and I am stuck at deciding my RQ for the EE. Is this a good one or is there anything to improve or add: "To what extent has Nike's endorsement of athletes and celebrities contributed to its global brand recognition and market shares. I want to write my extended essay about coffee. My first idea was to research how the 2021 frost in Brazil affected the local coffee roasteries but to do that I needed financial reports that they didn't want to give I understand, because of confidentiality, but I could find these financial reports in a government database but to access them it costs a lot of money, so maybe anyone has some advice or a different idea of what I could research about coffee in Latvia? Hello everyone I'm new here and I just want some advice/opinion on my EE topic. I'm currently finding a topic for my chem EE and I'm thinking of something like determining the water hardness of different sources of water (for example tap water, commercial bottled water and even untreated water like sea water) and testing how the hardness of water effects the rate of metal corrosion or scaling of pipes. hey all, I'm halfway through my EE draft but have hit a few mental roadblocks. My question is 'How decisive was the Kokoda Track Campaign between July and November 1942 in halting the Japanese advancement in the Pacific War in World War II?' I have completed heavy research but am struggling to answer the question, as in, I don't know how to address the 'how decisive' aspect. I've spoken to my supervisor, but it's not helping me.
