    • Hello guys, Simple question, but maybe not as simple answer - Can my Chemistry IA be 13 pages long of the 13th page includes only the citations?  I understand that the maximum page number is 12, and I tried to reduce the IA as much as I could, but I am stuck at 13. Thanks a lot 🙂
    • The problem is that our IB coordinator have already talked to everyone in the class (because this problem is not just in my subjects but every subject) about their motivation. He tried to encourage the students by adding extra hours were everyone was expected to do their homework or group works. However this only helped in the beginning (the first 3 lessons) but now, the students are lazy and unmotivated again. I believe my only choice is to either quite the IB or hope the students will soon see the benefits in actually doing what they are supposed to do. Because it is really affect my motivation. But can the IB throw out students who don't do their homework, comes late to classes and don't work hard in class?
    • I am on my first year, I only got interested in majoring in architecture after I chose my subjects. I am not sure if the subjects I chose will help me get accepted to universities at all. Here are my subjects: Eng Lit HL BIO HL Business HL Econ Sl Math Studies  Spanish IB initio Hopefully, I can still get into a good college and take architecture with these subjects but I'm doubtful.
    • Here is my Chemistry EE Topic and Question that I have developed:   Topic: "A comparison of NaOH and CaO as alkaline catalysts in the transesterification reaction of Vegetable Oil to Bio diesel based on Green Chemistry Principles"   RQ: “How would NaOH and CaO compare as alkaline based catalysts in a green synthesis of bio diesel from the transesterification of Vegetable Oil?"   Independent Variable/s: Type of Catalyst - Homogeneous (NaOH) and Heterogeneous (CaO) [amount and concentration are control]   Dependent Variables: Rate of Reaction Yield of bio-diesel Produced (might replace this with something else since yield is not affected by the catalyst; suggestions?) Amount of dissolved catalyst in produced bio-diesel (it affects the performance of the fuel)   Thoughts? Questions? Comments? Concerns? I'd appreciate some constructive criticism with anything on this post. I'm trying to get a solid grasp of my topic at this time so anything helps! Please point out the uncertainties and invalidities and I'll be thankful.
    • Dear @IBMondays!  This situation is so familiar! The first thing I'd recommend you to do is talking directly to your classmates. However, you probably have done this already. If it doesn't help, you can appeal to the school administration. Maybe they could speak to students, motivate them, encourage them to start working. If it also fails and the issue is too nasty, you may even consider changing subjects. This option is extreme, think about it after you have tried everything else.  Briefly, I had a similar issue. My friends and I picked many subjects to stay together in classes. And after some time I realised that they hadn't manned up and still do their monkey business on the lessons. After the first half-year, I decided to work hard on my own and changed my subjects dramatically (which altered my specialisation entirely). Now I am studying with hard-working students (who else would pick Chemistry 😃?). But my agenda is jam-packed now, and the syllabus is in times harder. Better think twice (many times) before trying this. For me, only this helped.
