Hi guys, I have been struggling with theory of knowledge ever since I joined the IB school. My first year in DP is almost coming to an end but my TOK presentation is not good. I hope I have someone to help give me feedback on my presentation ideas and structure for my second TOK presentation. I had to post it up here because I don't have any seniors to ask from since it's a new school here and IB isn't so popular around here. I would really appreciate your help. I will always try my best to do my part, I just need feed backs since my TOK teacher rarely cared about me. He often told me to ask for feed backs but he would say he is busy and forget about it and I had to wait …

Hello! So I had a question, my TOK presentation is coming up and I'd like to ask, is the question: "To what extent can reason be applied to any methodology" a good KQ? If not, my other idea is: "What should be the basis for determining figures of authority and experts?" but I'm not sure how to begin with the second idea. I'd REALLY appreciate any help! Thanks!

So my topic is focused on why we trust figues of authority. My RLS is an article from CNN on a chief police commissioner stating that the police is part of the problem involving all the tension between citizens and police in Baltimore. I've got my AOK's and WOK but knowledge claims is a dead end and it's really scary haha.. It's my second presentation, and in my first I got a 9/10 on the universality of music. Any advice?

Hello everybody, After having done endless revision on Tim O'Brien's: The things they carried, I decided to base my presentation on that because I thought there was a lot that could be explored. I came to the title 'can you tell the truth through lies'. Am I allowed to use the book as a real life situation? If not, does anyone have any ideas for a rls? ^~^

"How do we know if someone deserves a second chance?" I was thinking of having this as my knowledge question, but is it a good one to have? My real life situation examines the executions of two death-row inmates who had supposedly reformed during their time in jail. I was going to use ethics and religious knowledge systems for my AOKs, does that sound ok? I really need some honest feedback on my knowledge question! Thanks

Hi Guys, So basically I'm trying to do my TOK presentation and I need different perspectives for whether an author should be able to tell true stories through works of fiction. My RLS is Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried, through this we gain understanding of the Vietnam War through the eyes of a solider. I'm analysing this to see if he can tell the truth through his works of fiction, which could be argued as being a lie. So what do you guys think an artist and a historian would say about this?

Hi I am planning to do my TOK presentation on 'Religious Cults' and needs feedbacks on it before I present it on Tuesday. My real life situation is my experience in a religious camp in summer of 2014. My knowledge question: How does religious cults mislead people into believing and how can we tell it apart from religion? The main WOKs are Emotion, Perception, and Language. For each WOKs, I will include one real life example and compare it to religion. Any feedback will be helpful

Hello, I just did my tok presentation and tried to find the grade boundaries online, but couldn't find any updated ones. Our tok presentation was marked out of 10, however the only presentation grade boundaries I could find online were out of 20. So basically does anyone know the grade boundaries for the new tok syllabus? What do you need to get an A? Thanks (:

Hi, I'm trying to outline my TOK presentation and my question is "To what extent does artistic and religious knowledge challenge our ethical beliefs?" My real life situation is the novel Lolita by Nabokov and how he challenges the way we see pedophilia. I need two more real life situations + claims and counter claims and guidance on how to structure it. Please, I'm really lost! Thank you

Hi guys, I really need some of your perspectives to help me out in my tok presentation. I just need that help. I looked for several perspectives through online sources but I hope to get some from other people too, like you guys. Most of my friends are not in the ib program so they are not sure about the tok thing so I really need your help. My knowledge question is "To what extent does an authority figure mandate shared knowledge from personal knowledge?" The basic real life situation from me is that I had been switching schools for quite a long of times because I was always moving around so I wanted to talk about how the national education system has been limiting the st…

Hi guys I hope I could get some ideas for my tok presentation, I just need perspectives since I'm working on the problem of educational systems. I told my teacher about my real life situations and he insisted I go with this knowledge question which is "To what extent can an authority figure mandate shared knowledge to become personal knowledge?" To be honest I'm a bit confused with this knowledge question but I thought getting different perspectives from people here might help me see this knowledge question better and explore from your perspective? I'm trying my best in this tok presentation so I hope you guys could help me out for a bit. Thank you really really much!

I just started my TOK presentation not long ago and I'm going to talk about the educational system. My knowledge question is: "To what extent does shared knowledge from an authority figure mandate the validity of personal knowledge?" I wonder if that is alright or I might have to add in more tok terms or change my knowledge question to be more focused? Anyways, thank you for the help.

Hi! I am having trouble forming a second order knowledge question with two ways of knowing. Here's what I have right now: "To what extent is it ethically justified a life judgement be based entirely on emotion or logic?". My RLS if genetic modification of human embryos and my second RLS is capital punishment. I know this is still not about knowledge, but I'm not sure how top improve it. Any advice would be appreciated.

''One mans trash is one mans treasure. It’s impossible to say what is art and what is not art'' To what extent do you agree with the statement? Hello, my TOK essay (800 words) on arts is due today. i was wondering about what i should include in my knowledge claim. I'm arguing that this statement is true to a great extent because : -sense perception and emotion are used by art spectators to gain ‘acquired knowledge’ . -Sense perception influences feelings and therefore an judgements. -Sense perception and emotion influence judgments. I feel like my KC is weak and like i'm missing something. All three of them are the same, i just really don't know how i should wor…

Hi guys I'm going to do my tok presentation soon so it's a bit tricky for an introverted person like me. Anyways, I thought of a few topics but I'd be happy if anyone like to share other topics for my tok presentation. I hope I could get more topics to choose from and expand my horizon for tok. There are several topics I had been considering which were: 1. Malaysia that has been rejecting the migrant boats from becoming part of their citizen, whether it would be the right decision and is it ethical for the country and the citizens? This might promote other immigrants to move in due to critical conditions so I suppose Malaysia has rights to do so but considering about the…

Hi! I am a student in IB1, and we have a mock ToK essay due soon. I have pretty much finished it, however I had some questions with regards to the difference between good and bad ToK essays. I have looked at examples that have gotten A's and D's respectively, however, I honestly did not find a major difference between these examples in terms of content. Is there something specific that distinguishes a good from a poor essay. Also, I was wondering if it was ok to only have one KQ stated along with the title of the essay, and only discuss 3 AoK's? Thank you in advance for any help!

Should they all be entwined together or should i separate each aspect and unify them through there relation to the knowledge question.

Hey all, I am just wondering if it is okay to only have one knowledge claim and counter claim for the presentation? I've done some research and it doesn't seem as though the IBO has specified a number of claims or counter claims you need to have, but it is advisable to only have one? I asked my teacher and she said it was okay as long as I developed it well, but I am still skeptical Thanks!

Hi, I understand that as of recent, the TOK essay and presentation are both out of a total of 10. If I get a 10 for my presentation, what mark would I need to achieve in the essay to be able to score an A for TOK? I tried looking around for the grade boundaries and was unable to find them for the new TOK marking criteria. All that I found was that the presentation was worth 33% of the total mark and the essay the remaining 67%, not what percentage was required to score an A. Thanks.

Hello, We are lost as to how to format our question. Currently our question is "how does parenting affect a child's perspective?" Our TOK supervisor doesn't believe that we would be able to expand on this question. Our real life station is "Toddlers in Tiaras" as in the TV show, there are different types of parents, mostly including dominant parents. we wanted to look at specific examples such as Tiger Moms, Celebrity Parents and Hover Parents. Any ideas on how we can make the Knowledge Question more specific?

Hey, So my class and I have just started working on our TOK Presentations which are to be presented mid-may. We are due to find our RLS and KQ by next week. My RLS is about Jonathan Ferrell, and it is related to 'Black Lives Matter'. I have started formulating my KQ however it doesnt really sound TOK suitable, here it is: ' How has the portrayal of certain races in the media affected the way we perceive others?' I was wondering if I could get any tips on how I can make it more 'TOKish'. Please tell me what you think

Hello! We're writing an essay at school (not the TOK Essay, but an assessment) and we need to create a Knowledge Question that links to the prescribed question, Is it really possible to have knowledge of a culture in which we have not been raised? My real life situation is about schools hosting cultural recognition events that embrace their students' cultures, particularly indigenous culture. Is this an appropriate critical question? To what extent do Australian schools impel their students to connect to other cultures? I would really appreciate any help possible, as this is the first time I've been asked to write an essay for TOK, and I have no idea how to go about…

Hey everyone! I was wondering if it would be appropriate to use an episode of a TV show as my real life situation for my TOK presentation? I was thinking of using an episode of Grey's Anatomy, and I was thinking that my KQ would be something along the lines of "To what extent does emotion play a part in making decisions in medicine?" Links to shared and personal knowledge could be made (medical journals and books v. doctor-patient relationship), as well as how other WOKs (e.g reason, intuition) play a part, and the AOKs would probably be natural sciences and ethics. Thank you!

Hey there fellow survivors! I am writing my TOK essay & having lots of fun - I love this subject However I am having a problem with defining one of the key words that appear on the question: 'models'. I want to know if I can stick to one definition that works for some areas (i.e. ethics, religion, arts) but doesn't really work for other areas that are not mentioned in the essay (science, maths). Can I narrow down the question choosing some areas of knowledge, and therefore choosing a rather restrictive definition - or my "thesis" and definitions have to be more general and work for everything? Can you get wrong a definition in TOK and get low marks because you "m…

I'm a bit confused about the difference between drawing a knowledge issue from a real life situation and actually coming up with a question. I came up with 2 questions that I thought about from my real life situation, how do we decide what is appropriate for children and to what extent are rules important to the areas of knowledge, but I thought they seemed different from the kinds of questions we were give in class. I feel like those are broad questions and can be applied to different areas, but my friend said that's just a knowledge issue and I need to make up a knowledge question. I don't really know though.
