Hi everyone! I would highly appreciate it if anyone would like to share their previously done TOK presentations from last year or later. This is the first year that my teacher is teaching TOK and our class kind of needs some presentation videos to see the proper way to present. We've currently seen around 4 videos and none of the presentations were from last year so they're all using the old format. Any recordings of any TOK presentations would really be helpful for our class to learn about making an A grade TOK presentation. I do hope to receive some good presentation videos that my class could see and learn from. Thank you in advance for anyone who sends a li…

My teacher has said that the flow of my essay is fine and that the knowledge question has been implicitly implied. I just would like to know whether it is alright to not mention a knowledge question explicitly in the May 2018 syllabus. Is there going to be a penalty for not mentioning it?

Alright, so I am furious and panicking right now. I finished my TOK essay over a month ago, something I slaved over. I did the suspension of disbelief title, and back in September, I asked my teacher if having the arts as one of my two areas of knowledge was okay, and he said that was fine. I turned it in for him to submit. But now, guess what? I just read I'm not allowed to use the arts for that title. I don't know exactly the mechanics behind it, though. I focused on "music" in the arts, which is different from "theater" (which the title specifies), so can I get away with it? Or do I have to rewrite it all together? Is there any hope? If anyone could help, I'd real…

So I have to do my ToK presentation exactly a week from today, and I'm concerned about it. I know what I want to do as my RLS, but I'm not sure where to go with it. My RLS is to look at the infamous report claiming vaccines can cause autism and trying to look at something related to that. My KQ for the scenario was going to be something along the lines of "To what extent can we know that scientific reports are factual and trustworthy?" and then look at various WoKs to try to answer that, but I met with my teacher about it in class today, and in a way he seemed to almost shut that idea down. He told me I should try to look at why some people trust that report, but don't tr…

Hi everyone I need some help for my TOK presentation and wondering if you could provide some advice. My knowledge questions is How can we know the relationship between Intuition and Genius? My RLS is Einstein's General Theory of Relativity Basically I'm trying to talk about Einsteins claim that intuition is more important than reasoning. Any ideas for claims and counterclaims and what WOKS and TOKS I could use. Thanks once again.

Hi everyone, In my TOK essay, I have not really included anything much about personal/shared knowledge (only 1 mention) nor the ways of knowing. My essay was mainly focused on the AOK and its methods used. Will this cost me marks when I send the essay off to IB examiners? Technically, the mark scheme only says that you only need different perspectives that are linked to AOKs OR ways of knowing. So does that mean I don't have to include ways of knowing in my essay because it's not really that relevant to what I'm saying anyway?

We know with confidence only when we know little; with knowledge doubt increases” (adapted from JW von Goethe). Discuss this statement with reference to two areas of knowledge. I'm trying to derive the best KQ possible.. I thought of something like "how can one use reasoning and faith in order to know whether it is appropriate to be skeptical?" I think my areas of knowledge would be religion and natural sciences... I still havent thought of any RLS's. Anyone have any tips/ideas/advice? Thank you

I'm doing my TOK presentation on Trump's decision to make Jerusalem the capital of Israel. I have a couple of KQ's but I'm not sure they entirely relate to the RLS, or if they incorporate every aspect I'm going to be talking about. One of them is: In what ways does authoritative decision affect values and beliefs of groups? Would this be fine? Do yu have any other suggestions?

Recently, we just finished up our Round 2 Presentations for TOK and to say the least, I was very disappointed. My first grade was a 6/10 which I was ok with since it was our first and I had no idea what I was doing. My only criticism was that my secondary questions were too off topic and my teacher said he lost track of what I was talking about since I jumped too quickly from each example. So we had our second round which I worked really hard on for at least two weeks straight and presented yesterday and we got our grades back today online (so no criticism available and can't see any until after Thanksgiving Break) and I got a FIVE!!! It was really outraging for me since …

Hi guys, I want to do my presentation about the role of language in gaining scientific knowledge. I think it's quite TOK-ish as I can explore the role of metaphors in science under the problems of communication of scientific knowledge and how scientific knowledge is understood if using non-scientific language - if things are lost in 'translation' or not etc. But I struggle to find a good RLS which can be connected to my kq. Any suggestions?

Hey guys! In my TOK presentation, I am talking about how science advances and the ethical issues that come with that advancement. What can I state as a claim and counter claim [in terms of ethics and advance], when I talk about certain experiments that were undertaken in psychology to find more about how humans work? Such as the Milgram Experiment, and the blue eyes, brown eyes classroom experiment?

Hi everyone! I'm Kathleen and I was wondering if anyone that has already done their exams has any TOK presentations with the TKPPD and score and comments that their teacher and the moderator gave. I am helping my teacher try to find more examples of TOK presentations closer to 2017 since the video that IB has are both from the same school and are from 2012. If anyone would like to share their files with me. I will send you my email. If you wish to keep your name anonymous, you can send it without your name in the TKPPD. I hope to hear from someone soon

This is my first post on this website - I've been relying on your answers for surviving through the year, so maybe if I scream into the yawning you'll answer me back. I've been looking at creating a KQ off of a RLS, and though this is a practice presentation for my TOK course, I was really curious to how a knowledge question could be formed off of this very specific situation. The article link is here: https://www.usnews.com/news/politics/articles/2017-07-24/black-women-picking-up-firearms-for-self-defense It plays a lot into gun control, racism, etc, so I think in the right hands this would be a really interesting topic (this is just my practice, so it's…

Hi! I'm a second year IB student and my TOK presentation is in barely a month. I did already do my practice run and my teachers liked it but right now, they're not very encouraging and helpful and my teacher is too scary to try ask questions to ANYWAY! So my TOK presentation topic is "What role do logic and emotions play in the creation of attraction to others?" and it's a pretty cool topic and I have a lot to say but I've got an issue. All I am saying for my first AOK (Psychology) is from one site only, it has really good points and examples and I paraphrased everything but the ideas are basically the same. What should I do? Should I research for other examples? Do I nee…

Hello Everybody, I'm struggling in coming up with a claim for my TOK presentation and so thought I could reach out for some help after hours of wordsmithing similar ideas. Could somebody please provide me with their opinion on the tentative claim I have. RLS - Recent Artificial Intelligence has similar thought processes and reasoning to that of a human and so critical thinking is done by the AI. KQ - To what extent does the lack of information encourage critical thinking? Claim 1 : With the presence of limited knowledge, one's curiosity will be challenged thus encourage critical thinking to a greater extent. Thanks,

Working on my presentation topic and I'm interested in working within art. I'd like to discuss the function of language and art within poetry, but when I brought it up to my teacher, he seemed iffy about whether literature falls under art as an AOK. In class, we discussed art mostly in context of visuals -- paintings, sculptures, dance, etc., so I'm just honestly not sure if lit counts. What topic our presentations fall under dictates the week that we present in my class, so I'd prefer to know sooner rather than later what direction I'm going in here. Thanks!

I'm in the middle of planning for my TOK presentation How is this as a potential Question: To what extent is knowledge gained through the natural sciences infallible The real life situation from which this was derived is the series of Korean air crashes in the late 90's specifically the crash in Guam. I was thinking that because of factors such as a lack of sleep in the pilots, the fact that the copilot and pilot were new to working with each other, and that autopilot had been switched off (all considered human errors, relating to the human sciences), it didn't matter how solid the theory behind flying planes is (natural science and knowledge gained throu…

So our topic proposals are due tomorrow and I was wondering if this sounds like a valid presentation topic for TOK. I was wanting to base my RLS off of the Mandela Effect and the AoK l want to discuss are the Human Sciences (since many of it has to do with individual perception and memory as well as other psychological effects involved) and History (since the Mandela Effect deals with past events). I think maybe Natural Sciences or Mathematics could be involved but I'm not sure if they will be strong enough by themselves to be considered. And also, my central knowledge question would be: In what ways are individual memory and perception barri…

I want to write a TOK presentation question about Human Error. I had something along the lines of: To what extent can human errors negate the theoretical backing of the natural sciences. My RLS was the Jeju-Daegu air korea plane crash - where the crew were negligent and forgot to read all 12 steps of the safety procedure plan - resulting in a crew miscommunication leading to the crash. What are some other questions related to human error? Is the scope of my TOK presentation a realistic one?

Hi! My class is starting the TOK presentations next week and my topic is assisted suicide. I'm gonna be focusing on how religions affect the ethics of euthanasia. My teacher suggested that I focus on how the different religions came to their own conclusions regarding this. Basically he said that often times students only describe the stances of said religions, not the process behind those stances. Any ideas on how to approach this? Hello all! So I am beginning my TOK Presentation and I am a bit confused with what to do with my question. My RLS is the Top-Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point and my personal experience in 8th grade riding it. Although a parent somehow persuaded me to get on the ride, I was extremely fearful to the point that I would not look or talk to anyone. Logically, I could have used inductive reasoning to come to the conclusion that I would not get hurt on this ride: no one had ever fallen off, the worst accident was metal flying into a few people's faces which happened only once, and other than that, the most frequent accident was people rolling backwards on the ride. Additional…

So, I started making my TKPPD and TOK presentation a few weeks ago. My original KQ was "To what extent is it right to exploit the knowledge of human science?" About a week ago, I was told that using right(which relates to ethics) is not a good idea as ethics is very questionable, it is more of an opinion rather than a second order question. My TOK presentation focuses on magic, in this KQ it was hypnosis. I have given a lot of other KQs but it wasn't good enough. I need input on what my KQ can be. Please help, this is urgent. How is this as a TOK knowledge question: "Is it ethical to criminalise expression of creativity?", to which my answer is: “Although it may be ethical and even necessary to criminalise art under certain circumstances, on the whole, it should be deemed unethical". I was wondering if it is necessary to reference the AOKs or WOKs in the question itself, or if I need to change the phrasing of my question. Other than that, I do think I have a very "TOKesque" question
