Hey, I have a brilliant CAS project opportunity for many of you. I, and some friends from different IB schools decided to write a TOK Guide. There will be many collaborators and the more the better. It counts as CAS, and if you do sufficient work on it, it can even count for a CAS project! Write about something you are passionate about in the TOK way. Maybe a subject you really like, or something you like to do - or a perspective - that's what we desperately need. If you're interested, simply email me at [email protected] Many thanks Have a great day!

I was wondering if there is any alternative to Managebac. We are little low on budgets but intend to save the students and coordinators the trouble of all the paperwork, especially for the DP program. Managebac is pretty expensive and is also very complicated to use. It will be a great help if someone can refer an alternative tool for IB.

Hello there! I'm moving into my final year of IB and my CAS has been quite plentiful last year. Unexpectedly I was accepted into a modeling competition (which is very time consuming and a lot of effort) and now I am a semi finalist. I asked my CAS coordinator if this could be a project and she said "anything can be a project as long as you prove it". My question is: Because I am not getting any money or rewards in the competition - so far (the final 3 winners do so there is a probability), what is a way to justify this modeling competition as a CAS project. Thank you!

Hey, I am in the summer between grade 11 and 12, and for my service during the summer, I wanted to go work for a few hours per week at an orphanage. I will probably be helping out with the kids and entertain them and stuff. Will this be considered as Service? And whose Email-Id should I put as supervisor on managebac?

ok, so I am a swimmer going to be recruited very soon and I have to get my CAS Project over with. So right now, I am a coach for a swim team for underpriveleged swim team, and I have about 40 hours so far, I need to get to 100. Apparently, the coach said she did not want me to be planning anything, did not feel comfortable with it, so I was wandering if I was allowed to plan a fundraiser for my church and still count that as a part of my CAS project, and donate it to the Salvation Army, etc? If you dont want to answer publicly, please DM me?

My guidance counselor recently told us that the A in CAS now stands for Activity. Has anybody else heard of this?? I confirmed on the IBO website, and it's is now listed as Creativity, Activity, Service. How is this different than action and why was it changed? Will my action hours still count for activity? My guidance counselor is not being very forward at all on this, so any help would be appreciated

Hi, So I know that IB requires you to have a balanced minimum of 50 creativity, 50 service, and 50 action hours as a minimum. I ended up having 162 creativity, 26 service, and 663 action hours. My IB coordinator said that I should be fine considering that I have way more than enough action and creativity. Am I going to be okay?

I want to do something that will be included in my CV this summer. Any recommendations? Summer schools, working abroad, volunteering etc. everything works..

Hello. I have a few questions about CAS and service in action. Do long term activites such as tutoring, volunteering at a hospital count? Also, how are we able to do tutoring. Do counselors at our school help us find somebody we can tutor?

I still haven't started a CAS project... Long story short, I have a few questions. First, I know it needs to be 2 or more people, but do I need to work with other IB students or can it be anyone so long as it's not individual? More importantly, I have no idea what to do. We have school organizations like FBLA and DECA, but we don't do CAS projects as an official thing in school (like how some of your schools create opportunities for you). I don't have a car, so it's very hard for me to get anywhere regularly, aside from getting to school by bus or walking to local places. I am in desperate need of some ideas, please!

When can students start on CAS? We are having a disagreement at my school-- previous coordinator says that students can start the summer before grade 11, but I was told in training that it has to be after grade 11 begins.

I'm on the verge of freaking out right now. So, I've done my CAS hours, and apparently my action hours can't be anyone related to me, or that I have a connect to. So, if it's someone I can't even have a connection with then who the hell do I make my supervisor?! I asked my friend is we could switch off, so that her parents would sign off on mine, and my parents would sign off on hers (of course after verifying our hours truly have been met). But, she thinks that's not allowed either? Can someone help come up with suggestions? I have absolutely no idea what to do, and I need a Supervisor ASAP!! I just think it's unfair I was told this after completing my hours.

When is the 2016 CAS deadline? Some students have told me that it's due by this month (March) whilst others say it's due next month. Honestly, our coordinator has not told us and I'm worried.

Hi! I need some help. I 've already organized CAS project (school chess tournament). However, some my friends are planning to organize Model UN. Now, some students could use this for CAS. Is there any event simillar to MUN or EYP (educational conferention or something similar, competition or lectures) that could be organised by 17 and 18 year old students. I gained some expirence, and contacts with some NGOs and sponsors, so funding and organisng materials, food and hotels should not be concern (as I helped my friends with MUN). Feel free to suggest anything even a bit fitting description. Thanks

So me and my friend are looking for CAS activities to do together. Personally, I think I'm doing fine on CAS hours given that I'm around 90ish hours in at the end of my first semester in the DP. (I know that CAS is no longer recorded in hours, but it's a nice way of measuring how my progress is.) -- So currently, my activities are: Creativity: - Learning how to play the Piano - Computer Club Activity: - Waterpolo - Swim-training (both recorded under one activity) Service: - Teaching Dutch to small Dutch children - In-school clothes recycling - Assisting in organisation of swimming tournaments for charity and my friend's activities are: Creativity: - Diversity Club A…

Hey everyone! So I'm a May 2016 student. I've "finished" my CAS activities, their reflections, etc. Here's my situation though: Sometime during the end of IB Year 1, our CAS coordinator told us that IB has done away with the 50-50-50 hour system. She said that as long as you have some activity in all three banners, and it all added up to 150 hours, there was no problem. Then, during the beginning of IB Year 2, the CAS coordinator informed us that the IB has done away with the 150-hour system ENTIRELY. Instead, we were to do 2 short-term activities and 1 long-term activity under each banner, C, A, and S. (This also meant rewri…

so I'm currently doing 2 CAS projects, both of which i'm pretty passionate about and feel like relate pretty well to my interests. my school is fine with us doing more than one, but I also have the opportunity to link in a third CAS project, which was going to be my backup in case I couldn't find any. I do the school magazine, so I was going to do our final summer issue, which is usually the biggest and takes the most effort. it would be pretty easy to record and reflect on, and i was probably gonna contribute my own article to it as well! my question is: is there any point in me doing a third CAS project? is it a good idea to put in the time and effort into reflecti…

My friend is banned on all of his IB Survival accounts, so cannot post this. He started IB last year but instead of continuing to his second year of IB this year, he restarted his first year of IB this year, as he was not getting the grades he wanted. Anyway, do the activities he did last year count towards his CAS for this year, since he technically restarted IB?

I like Bernie Sanders and would like to help him for all the big dates that are coming up. I just found out on the subreddit SandersForPresident that phone bank is very important and easy to do. You don't even have to go to an office, it can be done from any computer with free apps. I am just wondering if it can count for CAS hours in service, even considering that it is a political cause. I'm in Québec, so my school is very liberal and we can usually to pretty much what we want as long as we can justify it with the CAS objectives. I also need a way to keep track of what I do to prove that I did it (I know that berniepb.com is a good site, but I don't know if it is suffic…

Hi, so I was wondering if there was nay way to incorporate working a job into my CAS profile? I know that anything paid does not count toward hours, however I feel like my profile looks unfairly weak. My family does not have a lot of money, and in order to offset the cost of IB I needed to work. Not having a job has not been an option since the second I turned 16 and could legally work. Working 20 hours a week during school, however, made it very difficult to be involved in the variety of extracurriculars that CAS looks for. On college application, I was able to explain my circumstances and received all acceptances. Is there a way to integrate my work experience into my C…

Our school used ManageBac for CAS. When I was applying for universities, I actually realized that ManageBac was a great resource to view my documented hours, supervisors etc. for past activities. I thought that this documentation would be helpful beyond university as well, so I was wondering if IB alumni is still able to login to ManageBac and view all the past activities etc. for reference. Thanks!

Hello, I'm new here but I'm a junior taking all IBs and I'm getting into CAS hours. The problem I have that others tend not to have at my school is that I don't play any sports or go to a gym. I'm more of the artsy type so I've got easy 200 hours of creativity this year alone and a good amount of service with honor societies and such. My IB Coordinator doesn't like things that you do alone so I can't just ride my bike each day/weekend even if I'm training to bike a long distance because I can't be the only one to vouch for it and there isn't a great way of providing other evidence or have a goal to achieve. I'm needing ideas so anything I'm open to hearing at least. I'…

So I know almost nothing about CAS, the only thing I do know is that we have to complelte 150 of Creativity, Action and Service. I have no idea what the CAS project is or how to write the CAS Reflection, we don't have a CAS coordinator and whenever I ask my IB coordinator about CAS she always tells me to talk to her later about it. Also can someone suggest me some places where I can do Action, I can't go the Gym because it's too far... Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks Y'all

Hey guys! So the idea I had for my CAS project was to create a website that would help new IB students with their transition into the program by offering tips, study techniques and other helpful bits of information. I thought it would be really nice to get IB students from around the world involved to see how people from different countries are approaching the program study and extra curricular wise. If you are interested please PM me and I'll add you to a Google doc I made so we can all exchange ideas xx

I know that promoting any religion does not accord with CAS objectives. However, would participating in the Bible Bowl count for any CAS strand. It is a competition of 3-12th grade students that memorize a certain book of the Bible and compete to see who knows it best. This would take discipline and dedication to learn the material well enough to compete and there would be no preaching or evangelizing involved. Would this count for CAS? If so what strand?

Hi, so for my CAS Project, I am coaching (along with the head coach) a group of kids that are either physically, mentally, or financially disabled (The program is free for them and the club was already set up, I am just coaching). However, my coordinator said that what is the difference for this project of volunteering vs. a real CAS project. I haven't told her that I am going to be setting up fundraisers for the kids to take part in. So my question is what is the difference between CAS project and volunteering?

I wanna add crochet to my cas hours, but it's at home and individual. Can I do this? I don't know who my supervisor would be, but I could easily keep a record of my crochet progress and the final products would be evidence. I just don't know if they would suspect me of making up hours for it and decide not to approve it. Should a parent be the supervisor or should I try to find a teacher?

So, on a previous thread, I asked if coaching the disabled kids counted as a CAS project, and it was. But the IB wants you to be thoughtful in reflections (At least once a week). How would I be thoughtful, when I am basically putting in the same reflections every week? What am I supposed to do in this situation?

Hey everyone, I have a question about my CAS Project. I am a nationally ranked senior swimmer, so I decided to do a project where I help with a local club team (not mine), where the team is free for the kids who are disabled, either financially, or physically. I am going every Friday to help them out, and basically coach the kids. Would this count as a Project, or no? Because I do not really plan anything, but would this still count as an ONGOING CAS project? Thanks!

I'm just wondering because at my school we must: -write reflections at least once a month -complete a log sheet which contains supervisor initials; checked every 3 or so months -individual activities should not be more than 20 hours unless you already surpassed 50 total hours in that category (to avoid only doing one thing forever) -CAS project with a sponsor teacher and minimum 10 hours -supervisor reviews must be decently long and directly talk about learning outcomes ("The student showed commitment, undertaking of new challenges..) -activities are hard to get approved if they're class based While in my friends school, the rules are more like: -write 3 reflections eac…
