Hey there I definitely noticed that there is quite a lack of Theatre Arts students, or at least ones experienced enough to hand out tips and experiences. My exams are May 2012 so can't say that I'm am an all-knowing guru of Theatre Arts wisdom but I do have a teacher who has been teaching IB Theatre for a couple years and he's produced good results. Plus I'm just really passionate about it so it helps. So anyways more specifically this post is about the Independent Project Portfolio because I just finished mine and man was it fun, but a lot more work than I had expected and I hoped that I could offer up a few words of advice for any first/second years who haven't yet s…

IB Visual Arts Workbook Guidance One of the biggest problems I have seen students encounter in their IB1 and IB2 with IB Visual Arts is their workbooks. For my Visual Arts HL course I am taking option B, therefore I focus mainly on my workbook rather than studio work. Below I wish to give advice on how to complete amazing workbooks pages that relate to your studio works. All of the information below is from my personal experience and from watching other IB students in visual arts who have received 6s and 7s for their final IB grade. Besides giving simple advice, I have reviewed the syllabus, and I will try to demonstrate how the advice and tips given relate to what is sai…

hi, im only in ib visual arts and i was wondering if i wont be allowed to graduate if i don't pass the exam, regardless of my course grade. my grades were fine last semester (average in the 90s) but im almost sure ill fail the exam because of my vaj pages. my studies in college will have nothing to do with art, so that's not a problem either.

Hi everyone, I hope you're all doing great. I've finally reached the minimal number of artworks required, though I've been really worried about one specific thing recently: one of my work is a serie of sketches that led to my bigger artworks, so there's pretty much all the thoughts and mood I've been through during these 2 years. However, some of my work, if not a lot, are heavily inspired by movies/video games that touched me. I guess we can call them fanarts. Are these authorized by the IB? Am I risking to be contacted for plagiarism, or am I okay if I just cite where I got my inspirations from? Thanks in advance for any kind of help, it'd help hugely. …

Hello im taking Visual Art SL (option B) I've been always wondering what is more important between "hardworking" and "talent" for Visual Art. I do not have good artistic technique and actually my studio works look kind of childish compared to that of other students. But I'm enthusiastic about the subject.. so I try to do well on My IWB and my teacher say I would get good grade for it. But Im really worried about my studio works because they are not good:(( The media I use are also very basic staff (like acrylic on styrofoam, charcoal, pastel, manipulated photography) could you please give me some advice or opinion ??

What are your guidelines on creating your IW pages? I just simply follow: *Inspiration (research on artist with analysis and critics) *Trial & Error (Mediums, technique, composition etc.) *Progress of Final Art Work *Analysis and Critique on Work These should all come to about 10 - 12 pages I guess. Share Oh and of course any museum trips with pictures and notes. That always adds tons of pages!

Hello to all you IB'ers out there! I am currently in the last year of the Diploma programme, and I attend Visual Arts at SL, option A. As of now, I have 9 works (where one counts as two), but my teacher has told us that we should have 12 to be done. I did some reading in the guide though, and there it says that the number of works required is not specified, only what it "reasonable" within the time allocated. Do any of you have some advise, thoughts or previous experience with this? I know I could be able to create enough pieces, but it would be stressful and they would obviously be of poor quality, since I have about 4 weeks to make them in. Best regards, Simen (yu…

So I just checked my IGCSE results and received a C grade for Art and Design... The work I submitted isn't my best work because I finished them in a rush, but I still did not see that C grade coming.... I was expecting at least a B grade.....(My Art teacher at school always gives me grades A, B) School is starting in a week and I am not sure if I should still take Art... I received A* and As for my other subjects! At this point, I can only drop the subject entirely or continue to take it as a HL level..

We're required to research African art over the summer, but for the life of me I can't find any sites that aren't selling posters or artifacts. I can't find any good quality, informative websites about the artists and their work. Does anyone have suggestions if they've researched African art previously? I'd appreciate it very much!

I am a senior IB student, and last year I took the first year of visual arts HL, but this year I do not want to take art because it prevents me from staying in orchestra because of class scheduling. I really want to drop this second year of visual arts, and be considered a visual art SL student without taking the class... Then at the end of year do the showcase and get the grade. I know it sounds silly, but is it possible?! I cannot give up orchestra..

Hi guys! I'm just wondering... is Art and Design hard? I have posted a thread on The Student Room forum about my subject choices, and someone recommended me there that I shouldn't take Art and Design (the only group 6 subject that my school offers) if it's not necessary for my future degree in university. That person told me it is hard and very time consuming while I can just do art for CAS. I plan to take Art and Design SL. I'm not the biggest fan of making art but when I'm inspired, I can do it well. But you know what I mean... I'm not always inspired. Someone please help? Thank you

I've recently found out that there is a new curriculum for IB Visual Arts, with first examinations taking place in 2016, so this only effects people starting the course this year. The new syllabus can be found here and blog posts explaining the new curriculum can be found here and here. Even though I only started the course in August I was really familiar with old syllabus: the A/B options and the IWB/studio work as the assessed components. So I'm a little caught off guard with this change! What are your thoughts? Do you think this change is for the better or the worse? Any advice on how I should change my approach to the course in order to receive a good score?

I'm in my second year of IB, and my music teacher wants us to plan our 20 minute recital over Christmas but I'm really struggling to come up with 20 minutes worth of songs. Most of my class are done with just 2 or 3 pieces on orchestral instruments, but as a singer I've got to find three times as many. So far I've got definitely: Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal Someone to Watch Over Me and possibly: I mio babbino caro Fields of Gold Ye Banks and Braes But even with all five that still only takes me to around 12 minutes, any ideas?

I want to know what we are allowed to use in our art projects. More specifically, if I wanted to use a Disney character or reference in one of my projects, is that legal? The artist I am researching does a lot of artwork for Disney, and I wanted to know if that's ok for IB. Would I have to give credit to Disney in some way?

I didn't take art as a subject in GCSE but I did take Graphics and ICT. I've always been interested in technology, and because I want to study Graphic Design in university, I decided to take art as an IB subject. However, the problem now is that I find it difficult to be creative and come up with ideas for even the simplest things like the page layout. Also, I am the only person in my class who has not taken GCSE art and so I feel quite intimidated and can never work in the class. I am falling back and I really want to catch up and do the best possible. Also, one more thing.... I am a perfectionist so I take ALOT of time on everything, which does pull me back someti…

what is the best way to approach an art EE? iv read many places that there are unlimited ways of doing this but how Exactly do you start?? should we focus on issues that are historic or would it be better to do something contemporary?? unfortunately im in an area with a shortage of libraries in general.. so the internet is the primary source of info. for me so would that reduce the grade average?? help appreciated!!!

Hello, I'm planning to do my EE on art and have consulted my teacher. I've come up with the question "How does the difference in posting artwork on social media vs putting it in a exhibition change the value of the artwork?" When I proposed this to my art teacher she said that it was an interesting topic but told me I should first have a rough idea on what arguments I will have and what conclusion I will draw. I have no clue how to do that. PLEASE HELP

I'm scared coz I only have half of my peices complete but excited that art will be OVER soon. All my previous peices really suck. But I tried my best on each and every one of them. Should I redo all the older peices and improve them? Or should I leave them as they are to have evidence of development? You can see my development just by reading my IWB but I need to know what will achieve the higher mark.

Hai fellow IBers! I have just stared my final year of IB and am thus in need of starting my Art projects for the exhibition! I haven't chosen my topic yet, and that is not what I'm looking for here either, though the desicion depends slightly on my question. Is it possible to have a video as a piece of work for the exhibition? I am not thinking about having the whole exhibition with videos, only one of the pieces. I have tried to find information about this, but failed. So if anyone know the answer, I'd be grateful!

Hello! So for my art exhibition, I have a piece that features a neon sign with a quote. I designed the quote, the size, color, everything. The company I went to just created the glass neon words and then sent me everything separately. I had to piece everything together myself, from the screwing of the studs that would keep the glass words in place to deciding where all the letter supports would go. I also had to figure out wiring and fitting the plastic cables. Now, 2 days before my exhibition, my teacher is telling me that this can't be counted as a final piece, as I didn't physically make the glass tubing myself, and instead, only the designs could be counted. All …

I wanted to talk about Fernando botero as he is colombian like me and how his art has changed the way beauty is seen. Hi, all Recently my art teacher told me that the art class would have an art history exam about some famous painting or sculpture like "Raft of Medusa" and "Grand Odalisque" etc. I am a little bit confusing is it an official requirement by IB? Do you guys who choose either HL or SL VA need to take an exam about art history during the two years study? It seems like this test is just my teacher's personal preference and is not necessary at all. We already have studio work and investigation workbook to do. It is not fair to make more tests……

So, school hasn't start for me yet but I'm really nervous for IB. I picked Art HL and two things are bothering me. First, I haven't decided on whether I should do option A or B because I don't really understand the differences between the two. And second, I'm really worried about having a theme that will unify all my studiowork/project. Because I have come up with 3 to 4 ideas for a theme, and I have like 3 themes I'm considering right now. Should there only be one theme throughout or I can have several themes? thank you in advance:)

I'm going into my second year of IB this year, but I've been kind of undecided about which classes to take for the SL/HL credits. Right now, my HL courses are English, History, and Math, but I'm certain I can't pass the Math HL so I plan on switching to Art HL and taking an SL class for math instead. I took a general art class during my freshman year, but I haven't done anything for IB at all. My art's not very good, so I should opt for HLB, right? I'm still in the process of changing my schedule; I just wanted to check if it would be possible for me to take the Art HL. It seems like a lot of work, but it's got to be better than Math HL.

Hey guys, I'm in the middle of my first year (yr 11) and I'm doing Visual Arts HL. It's not that I've had a hard time choosing a topic, but whenever I suggest something to my teacher, they always say something discouraging which makes me reconsider. I've thought of plenty of ideas, which include: - Human nature. (combining elements of humanity with elements of nature) - Corruption. (looking at different mental and social issues mainly in the form of expressionism) - What a girl wants. (looking inside a girl's mind, comparing fantasy to reality) - Looking at how music influences art. I was going to get a bunch of songs and let them influence my ar…

So, I'm doing Art HL option A and I've been really worried on my theme. Should there really be one unifying theme? My teacher told us that themes aren't really strictly checked because some students from other schools have no unifying theme (as in, their pieces were all out there) and they got a pretty decent grade. Would it be better to have one unifying theme or should I take the risk of not thinking of one and explore lots of stuff? I have been thinking of abuse and war, but is it alright if it's kind of vague? thanks in advance!
