I have always been interested in fine arts and in my sophomore year I took AP art at my high school, but during junior year I decided to not go on to IB art but instead take a year off. Art itself is a very big time commitment and one of my biggest issues is that I have trouble working on my pieces in class because I am very self conscious of my work and I don't want others to judge it before it is finished, unfortunately what this means for me is that I choose to work on it only at home which limits about half the time I should be working on my pieces. I really enjoy art but I worry that I am not good enough. In my AP art class we had to choose an area of concentration a…

So I would like to do Bangladesh traditional folk music (my ethnic background is Bangladesh) as one of the cultures that I have to choose to compare another culture with, but the issue is, it's basically Indian music. I've talked to my teacher and he mentioned to say that India greatly influenced the music but I should also state a difference. I've researched through several websites and even talked to my parents about what they know but unfortunately, I can't find a difference between Bangladesh traditional folk music to India. I also don't know what music elements to focus on as the only thing I can find about Bangladesh music is ragas, improvisation and the lyrics of …

I need a to form a "research question" for my EE, I just don't know what kind of question. I know for my EE I want to analyze either Debussy's string quartet and Ravel's string quartet (based on debussy's) or just Debussy's alone, but how do you make a question out of that? I have something along the lines of "To what extent did Debussy's String Quartet affect the structure and content of Ravel's string quartet" or something like that but I feel like that isn't like... IB enough. Like AP focuses more on music theory specifically but Ib music focuses more on analyzing the context, style, and feeling of music rather than the technical aspects of it, and I feel like that res…

So, I am planning on doing my EE in Art and I was thinking of doing the topic "How are American and Japanese art influenced by one another and how are they different?", or something along those lines. Is this too vague? Should I specify a specific area of art? Can I even use this topic? Any feedback and suggestions would be awesome. Also, my 2,000 words checkpoint is next week and I haven't started yet, so please help ASAP!

Hello all. I'm in the search for good quality student model woodwind instruments for the growing music program in my school. One of the biggest problems has been the type of glue used for the joint corks on the clarinets. They have not held up to the hot tropical weather. Any suggestions are more than welcomed. Thanks in advance. -Emanuel

I'm thinking of switching chem to Film SL. I'll be taking the course through Pamoja though since my school doesn't offer it. Can anyone give me a brief overview of what the course would be like? Also where can I find the new syllabus and if you have any insight on Pamoja (are the teachers good and etc) that would be nice.

I really want to become an animator, but I don't know whether to pick Film HL or Visual Arts HL. I've just finished my IGCSE's and I did art, so I've already had the chance of developing my art skills, while I don't know much about film. I know film would be useful in animation. I just don't know to what extent and whether it would be worth not picking art, which I love. I would appreciate any advice, thanks.

I’m currently having to choose my subjects for next year and am having trouble understanding what standard level creating is for music. I don’t want to focus on preforming as I am not amazing at it but rather composition as I actually do well at it and enjoy it. Could someone please tell me if in SLC I need to preform.

hi, im only in ib visual arts and i was wondering if i wont be allowed to graduate if i don't pass the exam, regardless of my course grade. my grades were fine last semester (average in the 90s) but im almost sure ill fail the exam because of my vaj pages. my studies in college will have nothing to do with art, so that's not a problem either.

Hi, I was wondering if the trailer required by the 2018 graduates of IB Film HL could have a watermark of the program used? I used WeVideo along with some of my group members, and it has a watermark and an ending graphic. I was wondering if we would get counted off for this or if it does not matter?

Hi everyone, I hope you're all doing great. I've finally reached the minimal number of artworks required, though I've been really worried about one specific thing recently: one of my work is a serie of sketches that led to my bigger artworks, so there's pretty much all the thoughts and mood I've been through during these 2 years. However, some of my work, if not a lot, are heavily inspired by movies/video games that touched me. I guess we can call them fanarts. Are these authorized by the IB? Am I risking to be contacted for plagiarism, or am I okay if I just cite where I got my inspirations from? Thanks in advance for any kind of help, it'd help hugely. …

Hello all! I've been meaning to ask, as the due date for my process portfolio approaches, if we are able to include our name within the work? An investigation I've done involved the background and meaning behind my name and discovering how to illustrate it. Thanks!

Hi! I'm new to the website but I'm currently an IB1 doing Visual Arts HL. So far everything's going great but I'm wondering if there is a criteria guide that defines final artworks that one creates? I usually get 7s or 6s on my pieces, but I recently got lower this time and I don't know why. I wouldn't expect there to be such a guide, as art essentially has no limits, but I just want to know if there are certain points that we have to achieve for a good/suitable artwork, unless its all really up to the teacher's opinion with no explanation. Thank you in advance for any help at all! Appreciate it.

Hey everyone, I've noticed that there is a lack of Theater Arts students on this website and I struggle to find help and advice for my Theater class. Today I decided to put that behind me considering I have been through a lot during my theater journey and decided it would be easier for me to just create a forum for the new Theater Arts students from 2016 onward. This forum will be a discussion point for everything Theater based from the Nov 2016 session and for the years to come (unless they change the syllabus again). Please feel free to ask me any questions that might concern you about the Theater Arts course as I am graduating this November so I've gone thr…

Hello everyone! I want to study Law either in the UK or Germany. I have chosen the following subjects: HL: Biology, History, English SL: Greek, Math and I'm torn between B&M, Econ and Theater Arts. I want to avoid using math as much as possible (I'm afraid of Econ for that reason). What exactly do you do at Theater Arts SL? Is it time consuming? Do you think it has helped you with public speaking skills? Thank you in advance!

Hey! I'm thinking about my subject choices and I'm intrigued by theatre and visual arts. However, I'm scared they'll be seen as "soft subjects" in uni. Is this true? I'm thinking about either taking one of the art subjects or then global politics. Also, how would you describe the differences between visual arts and theatre? Is one harder or more time consuming than the other? Any and all experiences and tips are welcome!

For film HL, the film my group is planning to do has a possibility of exceeding 7 minutes. We're not really sure as to what the consequences of exceeding are, so does someone have an idea? My teacher is guessing that the film won't be assessed if it exceeds 7 minutes.

For my IGCSE final piece I came up with this really good idea for environmentalism but i rushed the final piece so it wasn't 'the best'. I want to redo it for my IB exhibition with the same concept but im kinda worried if I do that they might account me for 'plagiarism' (and i would have to prove that i didn't because it was actually mine & i just re-did it) or would they just know that I re-did my IGCSE art piece?

Hi, I have decided to use Eric Clapton's Layla as a part of my MLI, but I can't seem to find its full band sheet music. I want to display some of the guitar melodies' scores in my MLI but I can't seem to find the actual sheet music of the guitar parts as well. Would it be a problem if I used guitar TABs? I mean, can I put the TABs of those melodies in my MLI or would it be considered unprofessional?

Trying to make some reptile (specifically snake) scales. I wanted a textured effect for my painting. Attempts made already: clay: I'm not clay person so it broke in the kiln 😂 Paper/magazine: cut it into shape of scale and layered it with glue, but it takes way too much time and even then it doesn't come out right If you have any ideas, I'm willing to try! You could also suggest a new way to do the failed attempts.

Hello, I'm planning on some art pieces and I want to use some old childhood photos in a collage type thing. Would I be able to do that, because they wouldn't have been taken by me or during the 2-year program? Also, I'm wondering if it's ok if I use reference photos from my friends that they've taken themselves. Thanks!

My concentration will be on recalling dreams. (Most of the time, whenever I do get some sleep, I can vividly recall what happens in my dreams and began a habit of writing the dreams down, so I wanted this to be my concentration.) Can I even do this as a concentration? But my comparative study is on betraying the portrayal of woman throughout history. So does it have to relate in any way???

Hello, I'm planning to do my EE on art and have consulted my teacher. I've come up with the question "How does the difference in posting artwork on social media vs putting it in a exhibition change the value of the artwork?" When I proposed this to my art teacher she said that it was an interesting topic but told me I should first have a rough idea on what arguments I will have and what conclusion I will draw. I have no clue how to do that. PLEASE HELP

I take Music Sl and for my solo performance, I was thinking on playing, Liebestraume no.3 by Liszt, Prelude in C sharp minor by Rachmaninoff, Summertime by George Gershwin, Piano Sonata No.1 Mov.1 by Beethoven. Are they difficult enough and are they different enough since I heard that the IB wants diverse pieces.

Hello, I was wondering how does the IB check for plagiarism in the Visual Arts course (for the visual content, like photos and images). I take Visual Arts HL Photography, and I am just worried that some of my content might show up online because I tend to publish stuff on Tumblr and such. My friends reblog my content and it's a heavy chain of reblog-repost action. Do you think I'll fail my diploma? It has been getting to me lately. If caught, they do contact you first, correct? I mean, you must be given a chance to explain yourself after all. Someone help out a sister! I can't even focus on my exams...haha
