Hello I am in the midst of writing my IPP, I decided to reflect on acting in a production. However I am uncertain how to go about doing the paper as I can't find any samples on people who decided to write about acting. Does anyone have advice or samples? Anything at all would be highly appreciated Thanks

Hello everyone, I am taking HL Music this year, so I have about 20 minutes I need to perform. I recently went to the doctor with a hurt shoulder, and was told I couldn't play my violin, but I still need 15 minutes worth of performance time. Do any of you happen to know if the IB has anything specific I need to do following an injury if it makes it impossible to do an IA? Thank you!!

okay so my IPP is due in a couple of days and I was just able to have my script preformed yesterday. I chose to write a script for Theater of cruelty and have another student direct it. How do I go on and write about that for 2000 words? I know that it's about the Process of the how the script was created. I know I can talk about how and what motivated me to create these ideas however I cannot see myself going on for 2000 words on it. Please help me!!!! Also I helped with the directing process (auditions and rehearsal) I also helped convey my ideas and how envisioned the play to him. now do I add that to my portfolio? Also I had did the make up for the performance …

So I'm a junior just starting the EE process and we have proposals do next week, I came up with a few but I just wanted an idea from other IB students of which seems the most viable. -->An analysis of various adaptations of the play ‘West Side Story’ and how the variations reflect the society in which they are created. -->How do adaptations of ‘West Side Story’ differ, and how does that reflect on the society in which they are created? -->An analysis of the use of archetypal characters in modern television and how they represent different faculties of the personality. -->How do different television characters portray archetypes and how…

In the candidate statement, we are supposed to mention the artists that inspired/influenced us. Is it okay to mention online artists (from deviant art/tumblr) as our inspiration? I don't know their real name, only their alias/handle name. Is that alright?

I'm really confused because my teacher keeps saying that we need 12-18 studio works for HL, but i asked another HL student at a different school and she said we only need around 8 or 9. On this website: http://www.thinkib.net/visualarts/page/8247/art-making it says that there are not a required number of works but rather that there are a required number of examples of EVIDENCE of work, which is where the 12-18 number comes in. I'm really confused because my teacher keeps saying its 12-18 pieces but I feel like I can't trust it because this is the first year that my school is doing the IB and all the teachers are super inexperienced... and the other HL student I asked is…

My school is planning to introduce Visual Arts SL and I am planning to take the subject. I am not a very great artist and I need improvement in many fields of this topic, but it sounds interesting and acts as a different course from what we usually take in other art classes, so I would like to give it a go.I have read about its curriculum on the official IBDP website and I am slightly confused as to what exactly they are expecting from us. I am planning to start preparing to take this course starting from March. My only problem is that I do not know the requirements needed for this class (such as: What skills should I improve for this subject? What skills in general sho…

So.. I'm basically done with my final film but I'm having trouble with music. I thought about not including music in the film but it will definitely be a bore. I tried making a couple of songs through garageband, but I was wondering if it was allowed to include the song loops that are already made from garage band itself. Like I combined a couple of loops together. Would it still be considered plagiarism?

I found two pieces which I believe would be extremely good for comparison, as well as a few scholarly articles analyzing each individually. However, I'm somewhat worried that they aren't quite distinct enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiCWKblbwXc The first piece is entitled "Black Dog" by Scott McAllister. It is inspired by Led Zeppelin's song of the same name. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBXsnClzUBw The second piece is entitled "Morning Love" by Ravi Shankar. Shankar was a 20th century composer, but he composed in a classical Indian style. This particular piece contains hints of Western elements, most notably the presence of a Western flute, but the pi…

For my IB Music IA,I would like to compare classic video game music and 20th century minimalism. The problem is, the only professional compositions that I have are of modern video game music such as halo. I am looking into using a legend of zelda medley from an amateur composer on MuseScore. I was wondering if anyone else has tried using an amateur piece, or if anyone has any advise at all. Has anyone gown negative feedback for trying something like this? Thanks.

I need some ideas for a theme. I want to do pieces that are about going through life and kind of telling stories visually. I want to do paintings inspired by songs (listening to them while painting), emotions, how events we go through change us, etc. I can't come up with a broad enough term to not limit myself idea wise but specific enough for the IB.

Hey all, I am an IB Junior this year (In the US), so this is my first year in DP. This is also the first year that my school is offering IB Music SL. It's pretty sweet, but because my school administration is the worst administration on the planet, we can only actually meet once a week during lunch. :| Because of that we're not allowed to choose what we wanna do for our IA. I really wanted to do composition, but there's not gonna be enough teaching hours so we have to do solo performance. Bottom line, anyone have any tips for how to do good in IB Music, especially since we're not gonna be able to actually go to the class except for once a week? Any good music theo…

Hey All. For my group 6, I'm taking IB Music SL this year, testing in May 2015. For my IA I am doing solo perfomance, and need some help choosing this piece. Really quick, please, only people who took IB music or have strong musical backgrounds answer!! I am for sure doing: Canzonette by Tchaikovsky and Summer (from 4 seasons) by Vivaldi, both on the violin. I want to choose a piece to do on the piano, because I think it will be good to show IB that I can play multiple instruments. I don't take private lessons for the piano, but I did when I was a kid so I self teach. I want to to Moonlight Sonata (1st movement) on the piano for my 3rd solo perfomance. My question i…

Hi. On my school every Pre-year student has to take one course of arts and one on music. Arts is starting Monday. And I hate arts. I have problem of attitude towards it but I just can't motivate myself. It always ends up same way: others draw nice pictures just like snapping their fingers, but I, even if I calculate scale carefully, always use ruler and harp, it just doesnt open for me. Music is same problem, I can't read notes. I can sing to tone thou but I can't play anything.

I've been really stuck on my MLI for weeks. I thought I had my two cultures but I've been having so much trouble finding scores. I have a really great score/piece for one of my cultures - Andean but now I have no idea what do for my second one. The piece I've found is in 2/4 and has a lot of melodic variation techniques, syncopation, repeated bass ostinato. But I can't find something that has these in it that I can get a score of. Any ideas?

During vacations, I decided to re-do my whole IB workbook from last year and this year (updating it) and I followed this guide: (the very same guide from ibsurvival) http://www.ibo.org/diploma/curriculum/group6/visualarts.cfm (the official site guidelines) http://www.ncbis.net/Editor/EditorImages/Visual%20Arts.pdf (and this one, i think it is official too) Not to worry though, I haven't thrown away or scrapped out my other old IB1 workbook, I still have it. I just decided to re-do and majorly improve it in a different workbook, that's all. After I finished and handed in to my teacher, he said that it probably won't be a good such a idea to do that, since my…

I'm a few weeks into my first year of the DP and everything is going well. The one thing I'm a little concerned about is the way my IB Visual Arts class is being taught. First of all, there are technically only three people in my entire school taking the class. So, the three of us (another junior and a senior) are lumped in with another art class which isn't AP or even honors, it's just a basic class for people who need the credit and we're doing the exact same work as them. We do keep an Investigation Workbook but I feel like the pages she's assigned to us aren't really what were supposed to be doing. She has given us a syllabus, but there really isn't very much informat…

For my theatre RI, I plan on focusing on the 1925 French play "Crime in a Madhouse" by André de Lorde, specifically on the special effects. However, there seems to be a limited number of sources that I can get information from, and they aren't very detailed with their descriptions. In short, I'm having trouble doing an in-depth research, and so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas. Does anyone know any websites for research on Le Grand Guignol, or on special effects for horror during that era? Thanks, and any help or advice is much appreciated

Hello everyone, I'm in quite a stump right now as to finding another piece for the MLI. I've started analyzing Debussy's "Clair de Lune" and have been searching for another piece for weeks for comparison. Initially, I was going to analyze a Javanese gamelan but according to my teacher, it's very risky. Does anyone have any ideas for my second piece? Please help!

Hi, I'm wondering if it is possible to take Visual Arts at both HL and SL at the same time? Because I'm planning to move to Environmental Systems and Societies, which counts as group 3 and 4, and leaves me to study an additional subject from any group of the hexagon. So since I've already taken Visual Arts at HL, for the additional subject, can I take Visual Art at SL, so I have "6" subjects.

Hi everyone. I've found out this forum through a friend's recommendation and decided to share an issue I've been having to see if I can get any help from here. I have just started the IB today, having done 3 years of MYP prior. I'm looking forward for two years of hard work and hopefully less procrastination than in the years before - but that's not the point. One of my subjects is HL Music, which was the easiest subject for me to choose, since even though I have an interest in several subjects I couldn't do such as Geography and Psychology, Music has always been a deep and passionate interest of mine. The issue is - I'm doing the course with my primary instrumen…

I have 4 HLs at is it is already, Physics SL, and Visual Arts HL/SL which I have to decide quickly whether to do HL or SL. My teacher recommends that I do HL because it gives me more time to prepare for the test and improve. Is he right? However, I would like to keep 4 HL classes but am willing to take 5 if it seems necessary in this case. I am not very good at art and I know if I choose option B the IB people will not be so critical of the product than the research, so would HL be a smarter choice? Hi there! I'm considering taking the IB diploma next year but I'm not sure which group 6 subject I should do. So the ones I'm considering are Visual art, music, Film or design technology. I enjoy art but after reading through some of the other topics it looks time consuming. I play piano and violin and I have studied Media as one of my subjects this year. Could you please outline the assessment types (oral presentations, profiles, etc) and what is offered in the subject? Feel free to add your experiences with these subjects

So my senior year still hasn't started yet and this summer I have decided to change my choice of career to music education. I feel like it isn't really necessary for me to take psychology, in fact, I'm not really into it. I've already been taking chorus classes for all of high school and I'm captain for my senior year so I've learned much more musically. I looked at the HL music requirements and I think I can handle it all because my Extended essay is also based on the curriculum HL music focuses on with analyzing compositions and music terminology. My only issue would be the compositions but I can be dedicated to learn how to compose. I want to switch so I can focus more…

I'm a new student to the IB programme and I'm trying to take the DP programme, as one of my subjects of SL, I'm trying to take the visual art, but my senior friend who graduated told me it is going to be a hard subject to score as one of my DP subjects because of its subjective marking schemes and the difficulty of managing time. I'm also taking up Math, Physics, English B HL and Korean,Ess and Visual art as SL.Am I going to have difficulties or is it going to be fun as the subject Visual arts always seemed like and end me up with a appreciatable score of minimum 6 as my teacher says?

So, school hasn't start for me yet but I'm really nervous for IB. I picked Art HL and two things are bothering me. First, I haven't decided on whether I should do option A or B because I don't really understand the differences between the two. And second, I'm really worried about having a theme that will unify all my studiowork/project. Because I have come up with 3 to 4 ideas for a theme, and I have like 3 themes I'm considering right now. Should there only be one theme throughout or I can have several themes? thank you in advance:)

IB Visual Arts HL or SL?

Should I do IB VizArt in HL or SL? I'm already entering my second year of IB Art and I originally chose HL but now that I fully know what to do I'm not sure about HL. My first year I sort of knew what to do with my IWB but I've realized that my stuff isn't sufficent enough and I'm going to do it the right way this year but is it even possible to do HL in one year? I'm kind of scared. I feel as if I could do it but i'm scared that I wont score high enough considering how the people who HL at my school in the past did not score high enough (and they were great artists too). My art teacher isn't really much help so I'm on my own here. Any suggestions? C:

Hi guys! I'm just wondering... is Art and Design hard? I have posted a thread on The Student Room forum about my subject choices, and someone recommended me there that I shouldn't take Art and Design (the only group 6 subject that my school offers) if it's not necessary for my future degree in university. That person told me it is hard and very time consuming while I can just do art for CAS. I plan to take Art and Design SL. I'm not the biggest fan of making art but when I'm inspired, I can do it well. But you know what I mean... I'm not always inspired. Someone please help? Thank you

Several questions on Group 6 in general

Hey guys, I've never really done an Arts subject in my life, be it music or theatre, but the idea of learning one really interests me! Being completely new to this though, I have several questions. 1) How do colleges in the US view Arts subjects? Would the top tier schools prefer you to have gone with a subject in another group? Also, is there a particularly respected subject in the group? 2) As a complete beginner to anything related to Art, which subject would be considered the easiest? Is it challenging to get a 7 in one? Do you recommend I go with another subject from a different group instead? More to come with responses, probably! And any help is greatly apprecia…

All my studio art work is due in a week and I only need ONE final art project to complete everything. I decided to add something new, which is the 7 deadly sins. That's not my theme by the way, it's actually identity. So I'm using this as a source to finalise my studio art works. Current problems: Ran out of ideas, only have 5 days left (everything's due on June 20th), and my ideas were rejected by my art teacher because they were way too cliché (I agree too...). I'll have 17 art works in the end and I know I don't need more since 18 is the max and 11 (I think) is the minimum. However, it wouldn't seem right if I only have 6 deadly sins, when they're actually 7.…

Hi, I might be repeating Year 12 for IB (First year) again due to the problems that I have which possibly won't get me into the final year because of the subject choices that I currently have, which are NOT suitable for me at ALL. So I'd like to do some future research just in case this happens, I'm quite interested into taking Film at HL for the arts and I'd like to ask those some questions regarding this subject. Some questions I'd like to ask Film HL students: - What is the hardest part about this course in particular - What particular knowledge is required for this subject specifically? - How much coursework is there? - Are there any exams for this subject? How…
