Hello, I joined the IB program in 11th grade. Our Spanish teacher left us 2 month after 12th grade. Now the new teacher is giving a date for an exam which I never though existed. So far i know that we will take a IOC with a picture. So far we already did one activity were we watched a video and had a group discussion on it. Right now we are suppose to find 3 articles for a test ? idk why.... I would highly appreciate if some one would help me understand what exams am i being expected to take.

Hey, what is the word count for the rationale for the written assignment (creative written assignment)? On some places they say it is 150, other 150-250.. is that something to do with the changes for 2015?

Hi I'm planning to write my Extended Essay in English B. In general, my idea is to write about different psychological symptomes named after fairy-tales characters, but I find it extremely hard to find a research question. What do you think about this topic?

Hey, so I need to talk to a French student to help answer the third reflection question which is "What might a person from the target culture find different about your chosen topic in your culture?" I would appreciate it if i could ask a French student just a few things. Cheers!

Hi All, Does the topic we write our external assessment essay (200-300 words) need to be from the prescribed topics from the syllabus? Or can it be anything? For instance, agriculture isn't one of the 20 prescribed topics in the syllabus and I wanted to compare farming between Indonesia and Australia. Any Help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hey, It's time for me to do my creative assignment in my language B. It is based on a book we have read, however the book was so bad that i just have no idea what to write about. So I just thought of writing an interview with the author and ask him things about the book and so on... Is that a good idea? Has anyone of you done an interview for your creative assignment?

Hi, I´m doing my part 1 FOA at the moment and I need some advice. My topic is "How men lecture and women listen" chapter5 in the book "You just don´t understand" by Deborah Tannen. What kind of text(s) could be appropriate for this task? Is it a good idea to analyse the ways men and women behave in discussions separately and how men and women listen separately and present the misunderstandings and "stuff like that" that occurs? Or should I make into one big topic presenting the "ways" women and men discuss, in different groups and settings, eg mixed groups, only men groups and only women groups? Thanks for any advice.

I learned about a website on here a few years ago. It has a large community of native speakers of many languages, and it is designed for you to input your writing, so native speakers can comment and say what is wrong or doesn't flow with your writing. I am taking Japanese, so it may have been a site just for Japanese. I don't remember; I just know I excitedly saved the link, and now, when I need it, I can't find it. IF you know of any site like this, please let me know.

Hey there, I've just started with IB and since we're quite a small school, it seems like I'm the only one to take German B HL. Therefore, the two extra HL classes will be one-to-one and as such can be individually adjusted (bearing the syllabus in mind, of course). So I just wanted to ask those of you who have more experience with B languages, preferably German, what to focus on during the two years so that the exam is a piece of cake in the end. I just don't want to miss anything that might be important... Thanks

Those of you who have read my blog know why I'll be taking the IB at 20, why I'm not going straight to university. I'm fluent in three languages, including English and German. I'm also a private tutor, so I'd be happy to help with anyone in need on here. Please feel free to ask me for help with your assignments/oral presentations/etc. While I certainly won't do your work for you, I'll give you all the help you need to do it yourself. If any of you need speaking practice, please feel free to add me on skype and we can go from there.

So I'm currently taking HL Physics, HL Chem, HL Business, SL Math, SL English A, SL Spanish Ab Inito...still on the 1st term of IB but i'm beginning to hate Spanish and I realised the amount of hw from spanish is more than my science classes which is becoming a pain in the a**. I'm indonesian and although my last time, learning the language was in grade 5, I can speak fluent Bahasa. Am I allowed to join Indonesian B? and does anyone know how difficult is the Indonesian A SL? or should i stick with Spanish AB.... Thanks.

Hi guys! I'm currently getting 6s and 7s in English B HL but I want to make sure that I will get a 7 on exam and I know this can be achieved by simply improving my vocabulary since I don't have any problems with speaking or writing in English. It's just that there are some words that I don't understand so I sometimes lose points on practice papers. So my questions is: do you know some good methods of improving one's vocabulary in English at a fast pace (since I don't have much time left )? Do you think that reading in English is enough? If yes, what should I read? There are many native English speaker here so perhaps someone will be able to help me. Thanks in advance…

Okay, so I've decided to write my Extended Essay in Spanish and my topic is "to what extent did the Spanish influence the Filipino language and culture?" I'm kinda really nervous because I'm the only one in my school writing an essay in a Group 2 language and I don't know how well I would be able to get a good amount of points in writing an essay in Spanish. So any thoughts? Are the evaluators harsh in grading Language B Extended Essays? And how many points do you actually need in order to pass the essay?

Hi there! I'm Juliana, and I'm in MYP Year 5 (aka Grade 10) now, and I am debating about my subject package. I am a native Dutch speaker, I speak Dutch at home and have recently had the Dutch teacher at my school look at my work and he says I would be eligible for Dutch A. However, this is the first year that I have had Dutch as a lesson, I have studied in English since I was 6, and have 3 years of Spanish. I would like to know how difficult Spanish Ab Initio is, because I am trying to choose between either: HL-English A (Language and Literature) SL-Dutch B HL-English A (Language and Literature) SL-Spanish Ab Initio HL-Dutch A (Language and Literature) SL-Englis…

Hi! I'm taking the self-taught language, Filipino, and I don't understand how it really works. I read the syllabus several times but I don't get most of it. 1. I'm not sure if I need to have 11 or 10 works in total. The IB coordinator in my school gave me like three different reading booklets about the self-taught language course and two of them says I only need 10, while the other says I need 11. 2. I don't know which ones I am supposed to find as a translated work, and which ones that are originally written in the language. I'll be grateful if you guys help me know and understand how the self-taught language works. Also, considering that I do not know if…

I take Spanish B HL and my predicted grade is 7. I am very good at the language, and that is why I decided to write my EE in spanish. The problem is, I can't find much about my topic on the internet. The title SHOULD be "El origen de la music caribena y su desarrollo en cuba". However, I can still change the topic as I'm finding it quite hard to find a variety of information… Any ideas??? If not, anyone who can give me some information about the topic? Thanks.

Ex-I/GCSE student here. Did some classes at Alliance Française, niveau B1. I love French and may pursue it in university. Why should I do it, and why should I not? My IBC chose French B SL for me, probably because she thinks it's an easy 7. What books do you study in the Literature component? Merci

I'm taking French B HL and our teacher wants us to choose two works in French for the Literature component. No translations into French. Can anyone recommend any books? I would really like to work with contemporary novels. I'm competent in French (6 years) and breezed through Le Petit Nicolas; Le Petit Prince was good too. What do you study for the Lit component?

Hello everyone. I always have quite a bit of trouble during my orals, for some reason. It's like the only thing that's significantly affecting my overall French grade. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice about how to perform better in picture description and general conversation. Also, I would be extremely grateful if anyone could share their methods of studying. This may seem pretty stupid, but I don't exactly know how to study french. And thus, i don't. So if anyone could help me out with that, i'd be really thankful. Cheers.

I'm a bit confused by my I.B. programme so far, as my SL teachers (barring one - but I'm getting ahead of myself, here) have seemed to suggest that they don't plan to crush their poor students under homework for their courses so we can focus on our HLs - which makes sense, at least to me, because if I planned on making use of those SLs in the future they'd be HL. However, perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but school has been in for about a week now and my French B course has already assigned far more homework (hours wise) than all my other subjects combined. Is this normal? I understand that all other courses will probably increase dramatically in workload, but I've…

However, I do not understand what this is exactly trying to say. I mean, 1) is it saying that the problem is the lack of communication between the friend and his/her parents, OR 2) is it saying that I have to write about a problem (create one, I imagine) be…

Ok this is my schedule as of right now: HL English HL Physics HL Math HL Spanish SL Visual Art HL History My school only offers HL Spanish and ab initio German SL. I have taken Spanish for four years now, this will be my fifth year. I currently have 5 HLs, but I only want to take 4 HLs. Would you suggest that I take German SL or take the Spanish HL class for two years but take the Spanish B SL test? The benefit of taking the HL Spanish class is that I can potentially garner an extra GPA point, but a drawback is that I am taking an HL course load for an SL test. Is that reasonably worth it, considering that I already have 4? Please answer, if I need to change my schedule…

How does taking a Language B HL as one of your 3 HLs effect the college admission's perception of the application? Since your ethnicity is the same of that Language B HL even though you don't have enough of the language to take A2. Should I do 4 HLs? or is that just an extra load of stress with no apparent benefit?

So because of scheduling conflicts I cannot take SL Spanish. My only options are either AB Initio Year 2 or see if they'll let me take HL Spanish. I've only completed Spanish 2, but in preparation for SL Spanish, which I was originally supposed to take, my teacher spent extra time with me teaching me all the important conjugations that the kids in Spanish 3 learned (Future, Present Perfect, Pluscuamperfecto, Conditional, Subjunctive Present Tense, and Subjunctive Preterite.) Should I just go ahead and take Year 2 or should I see if they'll allow me to take HL? (I already have 4 HLs, but I'm willing to drop one of them for Spanish.)
