Hello everybody, I could really use some advice on my WA Topic for French AB Initio. I have thought of the following ideas. 1. Comparison between pollution in France and India. Also, measures implemented by the government to fight pollution. (Urban and Rural Environment) 2. Celebration of New Years in France and India. (Individuals and Society) 3. Natural resources of France and India. (Urban and Rural Development) 4. Cuisine of France and India. (Individual and Society) I would really appreciate your opinion on the topics. Thank you for taking out your time and helping me.

I am completely new to French in Canadian high school since I immigrated. The rest of the 5 courses are perfectly suitable for me but not French.... My high school is not offering French ab initio, so I completely don't know what to do. What and how do I have to study effectively? I am hoping to get at least 5 but.....

Hi, I'm awful at French and did poorly in Grade 10 (got around 82%), and I'm starting French B SL next year in Grade 11. My school doesn't offer Ab Initio - so I'll probably be studying it from the beginning, probably using this source: http://www.frenchfaster.com/ibfrenchabinitio.htm. My question is: Would be learning Ab Initio be enough to prepare me for French B SL in Grade 11? I'd like to get at least a 6 or a 7 preferably on it next year, and would Ab Initio provide me the framework / preparation for doing so? I'm willing to put in all the effort, time, and daily practice that I need to in these next 2.5 months that I have off. I'll be focusing entirely on French a…

Allow me to explain. Have you or has anyone you know ever taken a language at ab initio level then pursued higher education in a country where that language is the national language/prominent? If so, how was/is your time there and how did/do you feel with your life and progress in the language? Anything else to add? Did/does it match your expectations? I realise that an increasing number of institutions offer instruction in English and the national language of the country--I'm not expecting the progression from ab initio to being comfortable in a challenging academic environment to come to many, although if achieved that's certainly a success story, also. I use th…

Hello, I did pretty bad in this French concept called "Accord du pronom", or something called similar to that. Its something like "making the agreement" with the subject or something like this, and there are rules to it, I can't for the life of me remember what exactly it was because I did it a few months ago but I never really got around to fixing my mistakes. I tried searching on Google, but exercises/quizzes weren't even close to the difficulty of those in my class. Perhaps if someone could provide notes on this they took in Grade 10, that would be cool as well. Could someone help me out here? Thanks!

Hey guys, I wanted to start with my EE during break, but then my teacher told me my topic does not match the EE criteria for English B. So I decided to change my topic. However, I don't know if this topic is gonna fit the criteria. The topic would be about the reasons of the integration issues of Muslims in the UK. Uk is a focused country and I remember doing integration in class. I asked my teacher, but she is not emailing me back and I really need to start with my EE. So does anyone know if this topic would work for English B? I would appreciate an answer as soon as possible.Thank you!

So because I was terrible at French, I asked my IB coordinator if I could self-study Japanese instead, in which I am already fairly fluent. It's been a year now, and I have been self-studying, it helps because my mom is fluent in the language as well. However, my coordinator has told me that I need a tutor to work with (which seems a bit redundant considering my mom) in order to take my test. Has anyone here ever self studied a language that their school did not offer?? I am really confused! How many hours do I have to work with the tutor? Because tutors are very expensive, and I don't necessarily need one. Besides the actual test, is there any "in-class" work per se …

The language B I would do is hindi, which I despise, and find extremely boring. I'm pretty good at it though. French ab, on the other hand, I have no experience in, but it seems extremely interesting. I would go for french, except I'm doing Math, chem and physics at HL, which I am told are extremely demanding, so I don't know if I wll be able to keep up with three demanding HLs and a new language. How hard is french ab inito, and how much work do you have to put in everyday (apart from homewoork, since that would be there for hindi as well)? And what do you suggest I do? Thank you!

I'm more worried about the exams than the coursework. So could you please highlight the main differences between exams for the two courses? Is one significantly harder than the other? Or are they both almost the same? I know the workload for HL is higher and you do more texts and have a higher workload, but I'm more worried about exams. I'm hoping to study law so I really don't want to take a HL subject that will get be below a 6. Thanks.

Hello everyone. My subject area is English B and I'm writing my EE on Orwell's '1984'. I need your advice on my research question; my first option is 'How effective is the use of dystopian features in G.Orwell's 1984?' And the second is: 'To what extent is the employment of technologies effective in creating a believable dystopia in George Orwell's "1984"?' I'm wondering which one is better and whether they're narrow enough. Also, if there are people who wrote their EE on "1984", please share your experience. Thank you beforehand.

Hello everyone! I'm currently in the summer between IB1 and IB2, trying to begin my extended essay. I chose the topic of French cuisine because I found it to be very intriguing. However, I'm having a bit of difficulty finding a research question, as I often find myself being too descriptive. For example, one of my ideas was "How is French gastronomy portrayed in French films?" Would this suffice as a research question? I am afraid it does not leave much space for a reasoned argument. Could anyone help me out? Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi, To study ahead and self-learn French this summer I'm getting a textbook to supplement my learning. Bear in mind these follow the 2011 syllabus, but I'm sure much of the vocabulary and all the grammar stays the same I'm only ordering one book, and my options are: 1) http://www.amazon.ca/IB-French-B-Skills-Practice/dp/0198390076/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1437079122&sr=8-3&keywords=ib+french (IB French SL B: Skills and Practice) 2) http://www.amazon.ca/IB-French-B-Christine-Trumper/dp/0198390068/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437079122&sr=8-1&keywords=ib+french (IB French SL B: Textbook) 3) http://www.amazon.ca/French-IB-Diploma-Student-Book/d…

Guys! So basically i got my results for French B back today and my results were shockingly unexpected and now i'm wondering if i should get them re-evaluated. I got a level 4 as my final mark. I got a 53 as my score and the higher boundary was a 55 and the lower boundary was a 41 and it said i needed 3 more marks to have a level 5. SOOO, the question is do you guys think i should get my exam re-evaluated? I was predicted at a 5/6 and this mark just brings my whole self-esteem down. Also, do you guys know anyone who got their french exams re-evaluated and what happened to them at the end result? Thanks my fellow IBers!!

Background: At the moment, I am enrolled in French 10 for the duration of Grade 10. When I initially chose my pre- pre- IB courses back in December, I planned to stick with French for this first year and abruptly switch to Spanish ab initio when IB began. I am planning on attending an Ivy League school and am aware of their selectivity- so would it be wise for me to make this switch? Would that reflect indecisiveness/ a lack of dedication? I am quite confused and have resorted to these forums

Hi, I took the langauge b exams in May 2015. So one of my friends can listen to his language B oral on the candidates.ibo.org website under the MyCoursework tab when you log in, but the only thing I see in mine is my written assignment. Does this mean there's a problem with mine, has my oral not been uploaded? Help, I'm freaking out.

Tonight I had my mid year IB1 exam for Japanese B SL. I failed, and when I mean failed, I failed terribly. To place a perspective on the matter: The exam consisted of two past Japanese AB inito SL papers (a paper 1 and a paper 2)We were allowed to use dictionaries even though those papers "should" be done without the use of a dictionaryAnd yet, I still failed. I estimated that I got less than 30%. So I feel pretty bad right now. Tomorrow I have my IB Chemistry exam. Hopefully I won't fail that too. I'm on 6's and 7's (going by school report cards of course) at the moment for all my subjects, except for Japanese B. I think I'm going to get a 1 or 2 for my final IB exam fo…

I'm currently thinking of topics to do my italian written task about, and i can hardly think of any. Our word limit is 250-350 words only and the topic should be a comparison between two cultures, one of your own choice, and italian culture. I'm doing my comparison between lebanese culture and italian culture. other people in my class are doing things like comparing breakfast, activities, sports, food, or even weddings. I didn't want to do the typical things but something more interesting or more specific. any ideas?

I know that the grade boundaries for French HL and SL are both really high (around 88%) and I was wondering what the gap was between HL and SL. Apparently Asian languages HL are extremely hard and our school doesn't offer them. I was wondering if the same applied to French HL? ALso, what's the difference between the HL and SL course? Thanks!

HI, I know it might not be a popular question but I don't know how to impress my English teacher in the summer exam in paper 2. I mean, my teacher is akin to perfectionist and she is really mean when it comes to marking our writing, even though we are just in English B HL, and our English is quite good. No one in our class got more than a 6..... Therefore, I need to think of something sparkling to impress my teacher, Do you guys have any ideas ? I mean, what elements do you think is rather important for a good piece of writing ? Any writing style or phrases or word usages that you are fond of, and make you writing more impressive? Thank you in advance.

Hi, so I'm currently a 10th grader who studies in International School Manila and I'm planning to take IB next year. I've already made my choices for most of the IB groups however I'm having trouble choosing a subject for group 2. As I am taking A English Lit. Being Filipino, I am fluent in the language however I have also been studying Mandarin Chinese for around 8-10 years coming from a Chinese school. Would you think taking Filipino A2 would be more beneficial for me as I would obtain a bilingual diploma or would taking Chinese B be a better choice as I have no problems speaking the language and from what …

My deadline for courses are very soon and I just don't know what to pick for the second language. At the moment I take french and have an 82%. I talked to my teacher and she said that if I worked really hard I could get a 6 (which I'm aiming for) but I don't think I can get that since I can't read, write without a dictionary, or really speak :/ With Spanish I know I can get a 6 since I already know a little bit plus most of my friends speak spanish so I can practice with them all the time. But I live in Canada and its more useful to know french rather than spanish so I really don't know what to do.

I'm planning on taking Amharic; which is my native language for the 2nd language test, however it is not offered by my School so I will have to study for it by my self. Hello! I have to choose my IB subjects fairly soon and im planning on choosing some pretty "hard" subjects (including HL Maths, Physics, and Chemistry) and I want to spend most of my time and energy on these subjects (as they're the most important to me). When starting the IB im going to have done 2.5 years of french. So, I was wondering if I can even though i've previously done french can choose french ab initio (since I don't want to spend much time on french especially since i'm already struggling a bit with English). Thank you very much!

Hello! So for my exams I´ve been mostly doing well because I studied practicing with numerous past papers. I wanted to practice Paper 1, but for French B HL I can´t find any, I only have the one from may 2015 which I made as a mock, and the specimen one. Does anybody have any, or knows where I can find it? Past paper 2 exams would also be helpful. Thank you all so much in advance!
