Does anyone know any interesting, yet fairly easy to understand french movies? I'm taking French B SL and I want to try watching a few to help my listening comprehension. If you guys know other good movies in other languages, like spanish or mandarin, you should comment it for other people!

I find the teacher support materials for my subjects really useful cause they always have examples of all of the assignments, but I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME FIND THE ONE FOR FRENCH B. It's probably because it's all in french and I can't just search up "ib french b teacher support material", but I found out that ib uses the term " matériel de soutien pédagogique" for TSM and I STILL can't find the one for French B. Does anyone have the link for it or speaks french and can find the link for me?? It would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hello, I am writing my French ab initio written task in the moment, and I have some questions. When choosing the texts, as I know I have to choose 3 right? Does all these 3 texts must be in French?? I have seen some examples where they had more than 3 websites in the reference/bibliography. Why is this so? Can anyone help me with the process of choosing texts? Hello, as of right now I am taking Mandarin B SL in the IB diploma and I am in my first year of IB. I have taken Mandarin in international schools for about 5 years passing with mostly As. As I started my first year of IB and in my first few classes, I felt extremely out of place as many students were extremely capable in the language and throughout most of the text that we studied I literally knew nothing. I did not understand most of the questions and/or full texts, even though I haven't taken a test yet, I feel like I might be extremely horrible in the subject. On the other hand there is Spanish AB initio, which I have no prior knowledge in and am just thinking about i…

Hi there, My school in NZ is teaching a new course as part of our IB Programme next year in that we are offering English as Language B to our Chinese students. I will be teaching the course and am trying to put this together now. I would be extremely grateful if anyone on this forum that already teaches this course has any course outlines and any tips for a point of reference as much as anything. Thanks so much!

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me out on choosing a topic for my English B HL WA. My book is The Great Gatsby and I previously thought about writing a new ending for it, though the teacher argued writing a very idyllic ending in which he would not die and be with daisy would not be attainable (spoiler alert: he died and daisy ran away with Tom). I mean I could do a news report on Gatsby's assassination, but that is too "mainstream" and besides doing something creative, the Written Ass. has to be coherent and make sense: the type of text must allow it to include "connections" with the literary work chosen. I would really appreciate if you could give …

I really started thinking about dropping HL English B. I can never get a decent score! The first assignment that I got a 6 on (Paper 1 practice) made me very happy, but keeping in mind that I spend about 5 hours of my weekend trying to build a perfect response... Not very impressive. What should I do? Do you think this is because we've just started, or will I keep getting grades lower than 6 or even 5, even though I study HARD? I'm crazy worried..

French B or Ab Initio?

I've heard of French B SL and French B HL, yet, there is no option to choose between the two for my Yr 11 courses, just French B. (I'm in Yr 10 now.) The main thing I want to know about however is what grades I could expect to get in French B and Spanish Ab Initio and how much effort I have to put in for them. I'm generally one of the better French students in the class and I get about 90-95% consistently so should I go on with French B SL? I hate Orals though these days. I've heard a lot about Spanish Ab Initio being far easier but what grades would I expect and how much effort does it require in Yr11/12? Is it at a Yr 9/10 French standard of learning or even f…

Hey guys, so I'm currently in the IB and I'm taking german B SL. I know it seems a bit early to be judging my teachers but my german teacher basically began the year with "so yeah I get that Lang B is something a lot of people forget and dont care too much about so we're gonna be taking it pretty easy" and for the last three weeks we basically haven't done anything... the problem is, german was one of my absolute favourite subjects last year and I really want to do well and perhaps get a 7. I got an A* in the IGCSE german exam but I still know that the jump from IGCSE and IB is big so it's not like I can chill for 2 years and then except a 7…

This is just a practice of the Written Task 1. This is what the assignment says: The author of Text C, Walter Cronkite, received a lot of criticism for writing that text. It was a very controversial piece in its time. You could write several shorter etters to the editor of the newspaper that published this piece. Be sure to question his role. Is he writing as a news reporter or an opinion columnist? So we have to write an letter to Walter Cronkite about his piece, but I don't really know what to talk about in it etc. Could you give me some ideas and examples please? This is the text We have been too often disappointed by the optimism of the American leaders…

I'm on my second year of Ab initio German and I am struggling. My class last year was really relaxed and I have a different teacher this year that expects me as well as the German B students to be fluent in German. I get these crazy hard assignments when I can barely write a properly structured paragraph in German. I have extra textbooks and resources to help me but i'm nowhere near the level of the work my teacher gives. Any tips and advice please?

I'm going to the IB diploma program here in Sweden and I would really need some help with the written task 1 that is due next week in my English A class. I'm still not certain on how it is supposed to be written because my teacher dosen't explain to us how it should be structured. I have this idea of either writing an article about the way the internet is changing the English language or a letter to the editor from a critical reader (me) who feels that the new words are corrupting the English language. Is this possible or have I misunderstood the concept totally? Please help!

Dear French People, What is the fine line that separates the usage of il y a eu and il y avait? Apparently it is preferable to use the imperfect tense in cases like this according to my teacher, but we don't know what separates it. Thanks.

My teacher told me to redraft my English Written Assignment. I did it and tried as hard as I could, but I have no idea whether it's any good or not. I didn't know if the first draft was any good or not either, and I got a B instead of A, which was what I was expecting it to get? How do I know if an English Written Assignment is good or not? What makes an English Written Assignment good or bad?

Hello, in a few weeks I will be starting the IB and would just like to know what I am going to get myself into in terms of Mandarin. In GCSE, I have done Mandarin as a foreign language (A/A* I haven't got my grade back yet but that is my prediction) and now in IB I am planning to choose Mandarin B SL. I already understand that this will be an extremely large 'jump' from GCSE to IB, but was just wondering how big this 'jump' will be. Do you think it would be extremely hard to survive in Mandarin B SL and does anyone been in my situation? Would love to get some tips and advice. Thanks!

I want to do my extended essay in language B. Is it okay for my sources in language B to be from another language? For example, my language B is Hindi, but if I were to take sources from the internet (articles etc) that are in English or Polish, would that be okay? Or do the sources have to be in Hindi?

Hey, I am seriously struggling with the topic of my french written assignment. The core topics are global issues, communication and media and social relationships and i am really just stuck on what to do. If any one can give me some suggestions i would be really grateful because i really wanna finish it. I've thought about writing a diary entry from a syrian refugees point of view or even a dialogue between an american mom or a french mom, but i haven't been able to find the sources. Like i said, i would seriously appreciate it if anyone could give me ideas. I am at a total loss right now. Thanks in advance.

I am about to enter the IB DP programme by the end of this summer. Having to choose subjects, I am pondering wether to study English B or English A2 (language and literature). Swedish is my first language and I will study Swedish A2. English is my second language but I am fairly good at it and it has always been one of my stronger subjects. However, I am concerned with the "literature" part in A2. Reading isn't of my greater interests, so having exams related to literature could stand in the way for me to get a 7. However, as the course also includes "language" it might not be as hard? But I obviously don't know much about the subject as I haven't started the IB, therefor…

Hi there, So on Paper 1 you generally have to be really specific when giving the answers to certain questions, especially questions of the type, "Quelle expression montre que ..." (Which expression shows that...), and I was wondering if IB examiners give you any slight leeway if your answer isn't exactly the same as the one in the markscheme but the important stuff is there, which shows that you understand the text but you didn't know every part to include. For example, this year's Paper 1 had a question in Text B that was like list two disadvantages of a multilingual society, and I wrote: (a): "La vie economique ... plus complique." (b): "La vie socia…

Hi, I am wondering what should I pick for IB group two. I will be doing Eng lit for group one, and have to pick one between Spanish language B (I am currently studying it at IGCSE level), and Russian ab initio. Hey everyone, So I just did my IO and I am pretty sure I did horrible. I am probably like 16/25. Now I really really want a 7 in French ab initio but I do not know how achievable it is with such a bad IO. I have 18/20 for the written task. I figured that I have to achieve around full marks 25/25 for paper 2 and like 36/42 for paper 1.Or get like 40/42 and 23/25. I have to do extremely well in both my papers. Is this even possible and how could I reach it? Please help!!

Hello, I don't know if this is the right forum to post in - but I'm starting my SL French course next semester in September 2016 through May 2017 and wanted to find someone to have conversations with on a regular basis to improve my abilities. I'll be starting IB August this year. I had chosen English Lang.&Lit. for Group 1. I initially planned to take Mandarin A and get a bilingual diploma. However, my school will not offer Mandarin A class(which is a huge disappointment) but only Mandarin B. My mother tongue is Mandarin and I have studied it for more than 10 years, thus Mandarin B will be very easy for me. Spanish ab initio is another option for me, which means I have to learn a new language. Should I go with Mandarin B which will not be challenging but I will most probably score well, or take Spanish ab initio? Which choice would look better for university admission? Thanks!
