Hey guys, so I was wondering if someone could go through my French B SL Written Assignment and tell me what they would probably give me like Level-wise. I'm kind of stressing out about it because I really want to shoot for the upper band of a higher level but I don't want the assignment to hold me back or what not. I understand it's well past the due date and I can't change anything, but just to give myself that assurance. So, was wondering if I could e-mail it to someone and have them check it out and give it a rating. Thanks! comment edit share save

Hello, Im just one of the IB slaves like you guys here So for english b paper 1, there are boxes for you to answer right? For multiple choices and others.. What I did is i answered the questions, and made changes afterward, so i crossed out what i wrote in the box ans marked new answer next to the box. From the conversation with my friends i only found it out today that they are not going to be scanned I made soooo many changes so if the changed answers are not scanned, im literally gna fail english.... Is there anything i can do? Or anyone who has same problem with me? :'(

Hi Everyone, So I'm about halfway into my first year of IB and am a bit concerned about Japanese at the moment. So far, our teacher has not given us a textbook for IB Japanese and we have just been doing random print outs vaguely based off the syllabus dot points. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good Japanese textbook designed for the IB/ notes/ any study guides or other resources (not kanji stuff). I have tried to find stuff online but so far it has not been promising. Anything would be helpful Thanks

Hi, I am a prospective teacher, still relatively new to the IB World. I just finished reading the IB Language B Guide and 2 questions now came up for which I am unable to find an answer: 1.) On p. 6 of the Guide it says: "Many factors determine the group 2 course that a student should take: the student's best language[my emphasis], the language(s) spoken at home and at school, and any previous knowledge of the language of study." I don't quite understand why it should be "the student's best language" because then it should be group 1 and not group 2 since then it wouldn't really be much of a typical language acquisition course anymore but rather…

What is the Spanish SL exam like? What grade did the majority in your class get? 4? 5? 6? 7? I'm really nervous right now because my Spanish teacher literally prepped us for nothing this whole school year

Hello! I got accepted (today) into IB diploma! I have been learning Korean since I was 10, but IB Korean isn't offered. I know that Chinese and Korean have similarities, and so I chose Mandarin AB Initio as my language. My question is, will my knowledge of Korean help me in this class? And if not, how hard is it? I will have to take it online, will that make it more difficult or more convenient? Thank you!

If anyone's taking Chinese Mandarin SL/HL, how are you guys preparing for the exam? :3 :3 I'm trying to read as many Mandarin texts I can find, but I feel like that won't be enough. How are you guys preparing for Papers 1 and 2? (Other Language B subject students are welcome to help me out haha )

Hey guys, So for my Lang. B Written Assignment I made kind of a minor writing error in French, i.e. forgot an indefinite article (folle, not une folle), so curious as to how badly this would affect me and whether it's possible to go back and change it or something if IB hasn't marked it yet. I realize Written Assignments are done with the help of dictionaries and such so how badly would this hurt my mark in the Language portion of the rubric? Thanks

I wonder how many choices of type of text (Diary, pamphlet etc.) we have ? Or we are given only one ? Same with the Personal Statement, do we have any choice or we need to write over one stimulus given ?

Hey, Does anyone know if it is obligatory to write the word count of your essays on Paper 2 in English B HL? I never used to do that when writing trial papers at school, and also the teacher told us that on HL we can exceed the word limit, is it true? For instance, can I write 550 words in Section A or 300-350 in Personal Response on Paper 2 and not get my points lowered?

So I happen to have an overly confident Spanish teacher who believes in his class so much that he thinks we can figure everything out as we enter the exam room in May... Since our class has been taught alongside our school's non-IB Spanish class, I'm wondering if there's a specific syllabus that IB has for each language course that includes the necessary vocab and grammar for this level. Also, I see that for Paper 2, the written responses require you to organize your responses into specific formats (letters, blogs, invitations, etc.). Yet even with an "invitation", there are several ways that can be written - is there a set format that IB is looking for, and are ther…

I was planning on taking French B initio but my French is pretty bad (in terms of speaking and pronunciation, my grammar is pretty good). Because of this, I am considering taking Chinese AB online on Pamoja. I speak Chinese at home but I can barely write it. Should I take the online Chinese course or should I go with French? I think I'll be able to get a higher grade in Chinese but I'm not sure how the online courses are.

Hi guys! I take Indonesian B HL, and I'm really unsure if my writing is up to the standard of HL. I previously took SL, and my work used to get pretty much straight 7s, however, my teacher said that those 7s were more likely to be 4s in HL. I know there aren't many people here who take Indonesian B HL, but if there's anyone here that does take it, I'd really appreciate it if you could send me a sample essay you've done (from a past paper or something). I'd really appreciate if someone who takes/took English B HL would send me their sample essays (from past papers or whatever) they've done. I take English A, but I'd like to see the what exactly is expected for a Lang…

Hey all. My package is: HL Math, HL Physics, HL Computer Science, SL Philosophy, SL English LangLit, SL Chinese B. So far we've had two assessments/reports and I've maintained a 41/42 across all subjects. I have achieved a 6 in SL Chinese B, which I want to maintain, but now I am practicing for our internal exams/mocks using past papers and I am just so confused. It goes like this: I find a past Chinese paper, I pick it up, I start with the first passage, and I can't understand ANYTHING. First of all, I will only know 50% of the characters. And most of the time, I can't even begin to guess what the entire passage is trying to say.... I do…

I was really insecure about posting this one as it seems like everyone on here goes to really great IB schools and are aiming for 6's and up on exams. Well, I go to a poorly funded school that has an IB program with some great classes and teachers. I'm just aiming for a diploma, so for 4s and possibly 5s. Just thought I'd point that out first. I'm pretty confident of the test curriculum for most of my subjects, except for Spanish. Last year I had a really old but wise spanish teacher who was really strict but a very good teacher. Well, she retired, and this year our teacher is new to the school and IB. She's an ok teacher but doesn't have the same strict methods tha…

I am talking SL Spanish B and am really confused over the topics which I need to learn for paper 2. I have been looking through my notes along with the titles and I feel like I have covered topics which are not needed for this or anything else (I think I must be wrong about that though). If anyone can help clarify the topics for paper 2 and what is in each one (like examples or something) that would be amazing.

So I'm in Spanish HL and I submitted my written work two days ago. My bibliography is in English, which I know is an incredibly stupid mistake! Of course the source (the novel we read) is in Spanish, but the words "and" and "print" appear in the bibliography. I asked my teacher about it, but she said she doesn't know anything about that (we are a new IB school). Will this greatly affect my grade?

So let me start off with the fact that my teachers are basically clueless with what the internal assessment is for Spanish B, besides the oral. I am currently working on this 400 word essay that sounds like the Spanish version of the English Written Task 1. Should I approach it with this thought in mind? ;Choosing a genre, following it's structure, in Spanish, and connecting it to one of the core topics. I have it basically done, I just need a structure and to make sure I'm doing this right.

Hi guys, I´ve got a short question and I hope some of you have got experience with this. I am taking Spanish B Standard Level, and I really, really want to score a 7, and was actually quite confident. The problem is that I screwed up really badly at my individual oral, I was feeling extremely sick that day and could barely speak a straight sentence. I did score full points on the interactive oral, and I am also quite confident with my written work... But still, do you think I will still be able to achieve a 7? Or can the individual oral lower my grade so much that I can only hope to get a 6 now? I hope, you can help me out! Thanks!

For the Language B written assignment, I was told that we are not supposed to write our name or even our candidate number on the document we submit. I thought this was strange... Have any Language B students heard something similar, or did you submit the Written Assignment like any other IB document, with your candidate number, session number, school, date, etc. on it? Thanks!

I am confused of how so many universities wrote the English language requirements for International Baccalaureate as "5+ in standard English" and didn't imply whether it is English A or B. I am currently taking B standard because I couldn't take B higher as all of my higher classes are occupied, but I think I can get around 100 in the IBT TOEFL test. Is it okay if I submit the results of either the TOEFL test or the IELTS test if don't reach the IB English requirements?

Does anyone know what exactly the papers and the IA in French ab initio are going to be like? We haven't gone in depth in class over this. We've only breezed over the topic of the exams, but we've been focusing on actually learning French. I've been able to write about a page in French before I just blank over what to say next so length isn't gonna be a huge issue I think. Does anyone know what the exams are like though? And the IA?

Our school hasn't really provided us with much information, but are there any specific formatting rules for the Language B Written Assignment? Like, my text type is an article and I have my text in two columns, as should be fit for an article. Can I have it this way or does it all have to be in one column? Also, different Language B Groups at the school have been told different things about including the word count in the document, but it should be there, right?

Hey everyone - I've been giving heaps of tips lately for people's French studies, so I've decided to make a master post, filled with everything that I can think of which has helped me over the past two years (sorry for my lack of accents, my laptop doesn't like inserting them in!) So firstly, get hold of a past exam (SL/HL/ab initio - whichever you're doing). Look at paper 1, and the sort of language you need to understand, and the type of questions you're going to have to answer. Then look at paper 2, and see what you need to write about, how much you need to write, and the sort of language (vocab/grammar etc.) you might need to know. That way, you know the sort o…

So for this year's, language B students have to basically talk about a photo for 3-4 minutes then discuss the photo with the examiner for 5-6 minutes according to a post I read. Is there any format to set up this discussion? E.g.: Firstly: Describe what you see in the photo Next: Talk about the meaning Last: Talk about the significance How are you meant to approach this oral and what kinds of aspects should you cover and how should you structure this? Thanks so much for reading this!! any comment helps

Hey, So tomorrow I have my French mid-terms, as the teachers decided to give us a mock Paper 1 & 2 and also a mock oral examination. I have been practicing the oral examination by looking at different images and writing about them, then practicing saying it out loud. I'm stuck on what method to practice for my Paper 1 & 2, as I have no luck finding past papers. If you could give me tips or anything that would be great. Cheers.

Bonjour ! My French teacher mysteriously left this year and so we now have a substitute teacher who has no idea what she is doing (she took two years of French 4 years ago). I have had to research what to do for my travail ecrit alone since I am a senior. I think I understand what is happening, but I just needed to clarify. 1. What cultures am I comparing? In la description section, should I describe an aspect of French culture or my culture? I am a Lebanese-American, so may I use Lebanon as my culture since I have a firm understanding of it? 2. In la comparaison section, am I comparing that culture above to France? Or to my own culture? I hope you can help and that…

Hello. I am asking this question as I genuinely want to learn French for my career. However, I've taken French since I've been 9 and have been assessed at a B1 level. Despite this, I feel 0 confidence in my ability to speak or write french due to gaps in vocabulary and verbs. Also, I really don't think memorizing grammar rules (which I've been doing since I've been 11...) can contribute a lot to my french speaking level. It certainly doesn't help my confidence that majority of my classmates were in French immersion and go on about easy it is to learn. So...I was wondering if anyone had the same case as me but still managed to somewhat master the language. Also, in cas…
