So I have my IOP coming up and I am doing mine over In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. The current codition of my thesis is: "Truman Capote presents the idea that people ignore problems until it happens to them and it's too late for them to prevent it anymore, through the connection of Nancy Clutter's dancing with the transformation of the town throughout the novel." It's wordy and a run on sentence I know, I tend to have that problem. I can't seem to figure out how to simplify this one or change into two sentences.

Hi, I am thinking about doing a slam poem for my IOP in which I would be posing as a women's rights activist in the 80's at a poetry competition. In my poem I think I would summarise the main improvements that have been made in the women's rights campaign but also draw attention to the things that still remain the same with the intention of persuading that these things also must be changed. In doing this I think I will refer to the evidence given in both of the texts that I'm analysing; Of Mice and men which is set in the 1930s and Still I rise by Maya Angelou which was written in 1978. Would it be too difficult to effectively analyse texts in a slam poem form? …

I have my SL Lit IOP next week and I need to find a way to make it creative/interactive. I know that this is not a requirement for the IOP, but my teacher says that the creative presentations always score higher and she encouraged me to make mine creative. I'm doing my IOP on how Tim O'Brien creates different moods in The Things They Carried. By creative things I mean something that would engage the audience and make my presentation stand out. For example, one girl in my class wrote wrote a short children's book which she compared to Romeo and Juliet. I also want to do somethings different than the typical game show, monologue, jeopardy, kahoot, etc. Anyone hav…

If i get a 6 in an assessment that counts in the final grade, does it mean I cannot get a 7 in the end? Or if i get 6s for 50% of the grade and 7s for the other 50%, does that mean I will get a 6? Or a 7? Just want to know how the grading system works.

Hi guys! I'm slightly confused about the IB HL English Exam. I know there are two papers but that's about it. Could someone give me a lowdown of how the exam works? What will I have to do? How are the texts I read during the year incorporated into this? How many works do I need to study for the exam? What kind of questions can I expect? Thank you, Natalie

An Analysis of the Social Classes in Patrick Suskind’s Perfume Analysis of Manipulative Relationships and Animal Metaphors in Patrick Suskind’s Perfume In Perfume, Patrick Suskind illustrates the importance of social classes in Germany post-World War 2 through his story of Grenouille, a murderer with a strong sense of smell and a goal to control everyone around him, in 18th century France. The difference in time and place forces the reader to make connections between what was occurring in the book and Communist Germany. Although the settings are different, they demonstrate the rise of communism and social order along with the eventual downfall of it all w…

Hi, I am struggling with a written assignment in Language A: Literature and I have faced a significant issue, while the deadline is approaching. Is it allowed to compare a translation of a poem (to a language that it is taught in) with its original version? Is it allowed to prepare written assignment just on one poem and its translation? I have chosen the following topic: "About different ways of presenting the major character in „Carcass”. A comparative analysis of the original poem by Baudelaire with its translation." I am comparing the translation of a French poem with the original work and the purpose of this comparison is to evidence th…

Hi, I'm currently in year 12 (second year ib) and writing my final EE essay. I'm having some troubling not straying from the topic too far since I've only one main point and a only few subpoints (which are slightly weak since they focus more on the morals that the novel targets but not exactly the structure or language). My topic is: How does the letter structure of The White Tiger reflect the purpose of the novel and thus the reader's understanding and intepretation of Balram's actions? And my question is what are some other aspects I should explore to make sure I have enough content while at the same time not straying from the topic, and how the epistolar…

For the extended essay, could anyone clarify the limitations of what books I could possibly use? I know a lot of it depends on how well I do with analyzing and stuff, but I feel like I have a lot of ideas for comparisons that wouldn't actually do well once I write them. Here are some of my possible topics, and they are all over the place because I feel like I can't get a good grasp of what direction I can go in, so I've considered just about every book I've ever read and tried to compare it. Could you tell me just if any of my topics are actually appropriate and something I can work with or if they are all stretching too far? The theme of female oppression/gender co…

PLEASE HELP! Im exploring a topic for EE. I want to write about "A thousand splendid suns" by khaled hosseini, and i want to explore the idea of feminism and woman empowerment. The author attempts to show the female characters as strong characters, but in reality this results in the demoting of the female characters as it is demeaning her merely to a supporting character in the background of the males' life. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts about this? ANYTHING HELPS!

Please help!!! I have a paper that's due tomorrow and I'm completely stuck on the topic. The prompt is: "What does Hamlet by William Shakespeare suggest about the interplay of time and opportunities when one seeks to create a meaningful life?" I need three ideas for a body paragraph and a thesis. Although I hate to be 'outsourcing my work', I've spent days after days on this topic and all my paragraphs end up repeating the same exact idea. I feel terrible and the teacher is gone for a week. Please don't overlook me, I'm desperate.

This is a denise levertov poem. I have to analyze the poem and present it in couple of hours!!! In this silvery now of living alone, doesn’t it seem, I ponder, anything can happen? On the flat roof of a factory at eye level from my window, starling naiads dip in tremulous rainpools where the sky floats, and is no smaller than long ago. Any strange staircase, as if I were twenty-one– any hand drawing me up it, could lead me to my life. Some days. And if I coast, down toward home, spring evenings, silently, a kind of song rising in me to encompass Davis Square and the all-night ca…

Hi All, I'm being cheeky and copying in my post in the EE forum as I think it might have a better chance here So I have been researching a lot about what book/s I should do for my EE. One of the aspects of literature that really interests me is the use of magical realism and mysticism in modern literature. I was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers around the following topics - I know the research questions aren't too well formulated but my supervisor should be able to help with that, she just doesn't know much about any of the books or topics I want to write about at this point. - How does Tony Morrison use mystical elements in Beloved to port…

Hello! I have quite the dilemma going on. I don't have anything to read in the summer I feel like I have read every books that could interest me (which is definitely false) So, I am asking you guys for some suggestions I like: Books with action. I really enjoys books with a medieval/dystopian/fantasy/historical setting. I don't care much for romance. I don't know what to call this genre I dislike but two of the authors who write these are Lauren Oliver and Sarah Dessen. I also like graphic novels/comics like Smile, Sisters, Tintin, Calvin and Hobbes, etc. Thank you

I wonder if you have ever felt like me, but right now I feel like I am dabbling on the floor with life getting sucked out of me. Our teacher chose a collection of particularly symbolist, post-modern stories for detailed study and tasked us with studying it in the summer. It is so symbolic that it takes hours only to read thirty pages, and honestly, I have begun to question all this literary analysis enterprise and its purpose. I wonder if any of you found a way out of creating a totalising system of meaning within a literary text or employ the same methods as me.

Hello everyone, I'm busy writing my written task part 2, using the book 1984. I chose to work with question 2, which is: If the text had been written in a different time or place or language or for a different audience, how and why might it differ? I chose to write an essay on how George Orwell's '1984' would be different if it would have been written before the Industrial Revolution. Do any of you have some good ideas for me? I would love to hear them. Thank you all in advance!
