What are your group 4 project topics and sub-topics on which different groups are doing? Is it also possible to post any Group 4 report samples in chemistry and biology?.

I was wondering why there isn't much information about the Group 4 Project? My G4 is coming up soon, and I have to start it. I know the IBO (or you at least you guys) must have some kind of advice/rubric for doing this project? I wanted to know what the report aspect of the G4 is... like how many words, format of the paper, etc. Thanks!

I was just curious to see whether there was anybody who is doing Sports Science for a Group 4 subject, instead of Biology, Physics etc. My school is one of 10 schools in the world who are offering Sports Science as a pilot course. Cheers!

Hi, I'm doing my G4 project (presentation), and I have students from biology and physics with me in a group. We've got a topic ENERGY (we can't choose\change). How do we make a project out from these subjects with that topic? Combining biology and physics into energy. Any ideas would help! Sincerely, Anastazja

Me and my group are doing a group 4 project investigating on chocolate. Are there any biological and chemistry aspects for this topic? I can only think of these, but I don't know if they work or not. Biology: Investigating on how the chemicals found in chocolate affect the human body Chemistry: Determining the fat content (Does gerber's method work?) Determining the sugar content (Benedict's test) Any advice and suggestions?

Our group came up with this experiment and I was wondering if this topic can be done for the group .4 Research question: Can a student improve their rate of completion of a multiplication test by either listening to music, conversing with a student, or just doing it without distractions? Independent variable: condition in which the test is taken Dependent variable: rate of completion. I was also wondering if this relates to biology, chemistry, physics, or earth science.

Currently I have to make the decision between Chemistry HL or Physics HL. For me, I am pretty good at both subjects, however i definitely find myself using more time to study Physics. My chemistry teacher has always had a reputation of being unorganised and not so good at teaching. However we have a really really good physics teacher. I like physics better than chemistry, however i am quite concerned about the workload. This is because I have a lot of co-curricular activities, and have heard that physics Hl has a lot more work than chemistry. I really could not make up my mind between the two. Can you please give me some suggestions?

Hi. I know that there are a lot of group 4 project topics out there already, but it can't be helped. Our overall topic is the environment, and our group 4 topic is soil (but it can also include plant growth). Our group just needs a few ideas that are not only feasible (one of our earlier ideas was to grow plants in different pressures, but it would require building pressure chambers), but also have an environmental impact that relates to the desert. Thank you in advance for your help. It's much appreciated. For reference, the bio kids: -taking desert soil samples, heating one of the samples up, and then using the two samples to grow plants -testing fertilizers or somethin…

This is a bit of a rant, so just stick with me here. Our topic for group 4 projects this year is "flight." Our group, composed of myself (SL physics), one HL chem and two HL biology students, decided we would investigate the factors surrounding the fall of fruit from trees, so that we could include the bio students in what we were doing (and keep it more experimentally feasible than something involving birds). It was generally decided, though we didn't hash it out very deeply, that the bio students would take something like the reason for fruit dropping in the first place, as well as bruising; I would talk about velocity of falling fruit in relation to density, surface ar…

Hey all, this is my first time posting. I wanted to ask about meeting the Complexity criteria in my CS IA project. Would I be compromising my display of "algorithmic thinking" if I used Java Swing's sort/filter functions or Java's built-in sort() or indexOf() methods? If so, what would be some ways to counteract this? What opportunities are there for me to implement custom sorting or searching algorithms manually and justifiably? Thank you for your time and understanding.

I'm trying to decide what topic I want to do for my EE and I was wondering if Computer Science EEs are treated like the other sciences. Would I need to make an experiment for this EE? Also it would be helpful if you could tell me what you need to do for a Computer Science EE in general.

Hi, I was browsing the syllabus for bio 2016, and saw "A reflective statement written by each student on their involvement in the group 4 project must be included on the coversheet for each internal assessment investigation. " So, what exactly is group 4 project? What we need to do for it? Do we need to hand any report about it to the IB? thanks for replying.

What is the best way to determine the concentration of nitrate/ phosphate ions in solution? Our Group 4 project has to be about water, and my group decided to look at the pollutants in a creek that runs through our city. I'm trying to determine the concentrations of the nitrate and phosphate ions in a sample of the creek water. I'd like to use a spectrophotometric method, for both if possible, but they're presenting challenges. I know of the molybdenum blue test for phosphate but I'm pretty sure my school chem lab doesn't have any molybdate. I've also heard about the aquarium nitrate and phosphate test kits that you can buy in stores, but obviously I can't just go buy a k…

My group 4 project is on 14-15 April. Teachers introduced us to the G4 project last month, I’ve been away from school for one month and my group hasn’t done much for this G4 project. I just read my school weekly newspaper and the front page reminded me of this G4 project!! It says: Students will not have normal lessons during those 2 days, but instead will plan and perform individual experiments with results being presented on the second day. I still do not really get what this G4 project is all about. What do we do? Do we have to conduct experiments? How many ones? Do we have to conduct one physics experiment, one chemistry experiment and one biology experiment?? Then w…

Hello, I am a new student to the IB programme. I took my IGCSE exams in May, and my results are as follows: Maths (Extended): A* Coordinated Science: AA Business Studies: A* History: A English First Language (Extended): C French First Language: A I am not that good in languages and I don't like studying them either. In terms of maths and science, I love maths and physics, but I hate biology, and I think that is the reason why I only got AA in Science. I started studying Business 2 years ago, and I love the course too. Right now, I am considering to go to a Business School later, and I want to get as many IB points as p…

The last two homework assignments for Chem HL have been 7 pages each. Like I get the concepts, considering my 100% on my test, but I am just worried about the future. Our Chem teacher doesn't do really a good job explaining anything, much of the learning has been done through online notes. I wont be able to keep this up over time right? I mean, at some point Equilibrium will roll around and I will be dead stuck So about 10-12 weeks in, we JUST completed Avogadro's number, conversion between grams, molecules, atoms, and moles, and balancing equations. Thats more than 1/4th of my Junior year to go over something that's planned for 2-3 hours. where should I be? Where were…

Hi guys, I'm fairly new to this forum and this is my first thread so please be gentle with me. I recently received the Group 4 Project and we can basically do it on anything. My group chose to do it on Energy drinks. I came up with ways for Chemistry and Biology and am in serious need for Physics. Energy Drinks Chemistry: Compounds within the drinks / testing the buoyancy of the drink / how it reacts to temperature changes Biology: How it affects the body / How exactly does it give you "energy"? Side effects? etc Physics: ??? Thank you so much for your help. Any advices on the other two sciences is also greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone i'm editing this topic, because recently i asked for some ideas relating group 4 project from an environmentalist point of view. However, i'm no longer surprised that there was no feedback, as i have found out that there is not a single word about GROUP 4 project in the ESS Syllabus and i couldn't even find any connection whatsoever between the two when i googled it. Anyway, they made us do the group 4 project, they've put us in a group of six people. Me and my friend were 2 students of ESS in the group and the others were doing the other sciences (Physics, Biology, Chemistry). Our topic was cider, so whilst others were doing some experiment, me and my friend …

I might need some help with the following question: 1)a) 300 000 Joules of energy are stored in a patch of grass on a meadow. How many of those joules would be available to a tertiary consumer? b) According to the 2nd law of thermodynamics, the biomass stored in plants cannot all be used to feed other organisms. What percentage of the energy stored as biomass in plants is transferred, on average to the next trophic level of the food chain? Apply the 2nd law of thermodynamics to explain this.

Hi guys, I wanted to ask what are the possible ideas for Biology group for G4P if the main topic is fast food? I know that's a pretty vast one and it seems that Biology can do fairly anything with it but we cannot, e.g. measure the abundance of certain nutrients and we're looking for something a bit more innovative, like examining the cleanness of tables at McDonald's or KFC. What do you think it might be? Thanks in advance for your ideas!

What part(in percentages) does G4 project take in the counting your final biology SL grade(e.g. 5%)? I've heard that all of biology IA counts for 24% and is made up of 48 points. Personal Skills counts for max. 6 points and is measured by G4, thus G4 counts for 3%. Is it correct?

Hey, I'm a Biology SL student and I need to do my Groupg 4 project. I have absolutely no idea on how to do it, as our biology teacher is not very helpful. Our main topic is environment and our group's subtopic is water pollution. We have to investigate a stream that flows through the city. It is definitely polluted. It's area is <100m2 and it is a very weak stream. Could you help me to come up with a topic, as I'm not bio-savvy and have no idea how to come-up with the topic? I would EXTREMELY appreciate your help

HIE, We had been given a task for a group four project on water as a mixed group(10 students) from all science subjects. so we were planning to have something which will incoporate aspects from biology, physics and chemistry. we decided to investigate the % of impurities( mainly lead) in the water we drink at school and find out its effect on health. is this a good topic to do or we must chose something else? please feel free to add more suggestions.

Hi everyone, so I'm a grade 12 Physics student and for G4 this year we have to choose a topic related to Amusement and Entertainment. The topic we pick has to relate to chemistry and Physics (Half the group does the Physics half does the Chem) and to be honest I have no clue on what to do.We need to think of a topic ASAP and no one has any ideas. Hi guys, so our whole class came up with the umbrella topic/ main topic as water and first out group decided to have this as our RQ: To what extent can a car running on hydrogen be efficient ? So we divided our work areas as follows : Physics: The designing of the model Chemistry: We will use electrolysis for producing hydrogen Now these two will be based on experiment wherein we will literally show a model car running on hydrogen in water Biology: Talk about microbes in water that produce hydrogen ESS: Talk about how this will benefit the environment Okay, so these two will be like in presentation format with factual evidence. The problem is, there is no chance our model…
