Hi everyone i'm editing this topic, because recently i asked for some ideas relating group 4 project from an environmentalist point of view. However, i'm no longer surprised that there was no feedback, as i have found out that there is not a single word about GROUP 4 project in the ESS Syllabus and i couldn't even find any connection whatsoever between the two when i googled it. Anyway, they made us do the group 4 project, they've put us in a group of six people. Me and my friend were 2 students of ESS in the group and the others were doing the other sciences (Physics, Biology, Chemistry). Our topic was cider, so whilst others were doing some experiment, me and my friend …

So it seems like my school is the only school doing this-- But during Group Four, we were supposed to have a lab journal that holds stuff from the very first day we started and till the day of our presentation. For each planning meeting, for the experimental day itself, and for the presentation, we were supposed to write a reflection. I've managed to pull something out for the first four, but the final reflection seems to be the most important itself. How would you all write a reflection for your final group four reflection? What kind of questions should I technically be answering in my reflection? Any tips would be nice : ) Gracias!

Our teachers want us to write a report on our group 4 project, yet they didn't bother explaining how it should be written and, since we can't ask them during the vacations, our group is quite lost. What exactly should we do? Is it similar to a science lab report, in which we report the method we used, report the data we collected, etc? Our should some "fluff" be added, like the ethical and social implications of our work? Do we need to research anything that could apply to our project? I know this may sound silly, but our teachers just sent us an email in the middle of the vacations basically saying "oh, write the group four report" without giving any help or explanation.…

Hey! My group 4 project is coming up in a week's time and my group and I cant think of anything for the science of kitchens. I thought about doing something about how the enzyme amylase breaks down food but i cant think of anything for the chemistry/physics aspects of the Group 4 Project. We also have the option of having our project be about the science of garbage/waste so if you can think about any ideas for this it would be appreciated too!

All of the Group 4 posts I've seen on here are way different than what my school did. Last year students were divided into groups of ten and had to figure out survive a zombie apocalypse (or so I heard). For my project we were split into similar groups and assigned different doomsday scenarios: after the Earth is rendered uninhabitable figure out how to get 80-100 people to survive in the ocean, deep space or on Mars. My group got Mars. It seems to me like everyone on this website is just doing science experiments.

We just started the IB and were told to do our Group 4 Project, apparently our topic given was "Ocean Water". We were told to incorporate Physics, Biology, and Chemistry into one project?? Could anyone give any examples of how that's done? Especially with ocean water, we came up with ideas that only reflected 1 or 2 sciences. Any tips or suggestions please? Thanks in advance

Hi, I was browsing the syllabus for bio 2016, and saw "A reflective statement written by each student on their involvement in the group 4 project must be included on the coversheet for each internal assessment investigation. " So, what exactly is group 4 project? What we need to do for it? Do we need to hand any report about it to the IB? thanks for replying.

Hello, I am about to do my Group 4 project. My group's topic is honey and I will be doing the biology part. Unfortunately I am quite stuck in the planning part. I presented my idea to my teacher but was rejected because using e.coli is too dangerous and with us not having the skill set needed. I have read abstract and ideas of some research papers but am still stuck. At this moment I am thinking of two ideas, 1. Compare the sugar content of cheap and expensive brands of honey using fermentation. 2. Study the effect of prolonged heating on honey's ability to inhibit baker's yeast growth ( I am not so sure about this one as I heard that baker's yeast are used with honey i…

My group 4 project is on 14-15 April. Teachers introduced us to the G4 project last month, I’ve been away from school for one month and my group hasn’t done much for this G4 project. I just read my school weekly newspaper and the front page reminded me of this G4 project!! It says: Students will not have normal lessons during those 2 days, but instead will plan and perform individual experiments with results being presented on the second day. I still do not really get what this G4 project is all about. What do we do? Do we have to conduct experiments? How many ones? Do we have to conduct one physics experiment, one chemistry experiment and one biology experiment?? Then w…

Hello! So here's the situation. I've done the group 4 project, but collaboration with my group turned out to be more difficult then I expected. A first deadline was supposed to be a presentation of the work we've done so far, but basically everyone was ready by then and everyone presented the final project. Teachers approved it. Then it turned out that the "condition" to "pass" it was to present it in front of school what my group refused to do (there wasn't really an option for me to go alone ). I just got an info, that we didn't "pass" it. What does that mean? Can you fail a G4P? What are the consequences? Anyone help please. Thanks in advance.

So i'm a physics student. My school's IB department has organized a group 4 project site to be at a camping ground somewhere in the mountains. I've been assigned to a group, 1 Physics, 1 Biology and 1 Chemistry student. So this is kinda easy for the biology or the chemistry students, they could pick a type of plant and study the contents, chemically and biologically. While me, the physics student, i have no idea... So i'm looking for help here, could anyone please help with ideas. The campsite has nearby plantation facilities with varieties of plants such as strawberries, hydrangeas, etc. So it's now up to me (and other physics students) to decide a topic, and then the ot…

Specially in Chemistry as the experiment as i can't think of any experiment. Can you please suggest some ideas of the experiments about the theme. So, I need to do a group 4 project on the topic of food; I am a reluctant SL Chem student, with no idea what to do, especially as my partner moved from Chem to Bio about a month ago and neglected to tell me until now, a few weeks before the experiment is due. Our previous plan was to test several organic/edible preservatives on slices of bread from the same loaf, or some other identical food product (this is basically the only idea that our teacher didn't reject); we were going to use identical amounts of honey, salt, lemon-water, and other preservatives we could find on our subjects and leave them in sealed containers, checking them until results started cropping up (ho…

My school has just recently included IB courses in our curriculum (less than 3 years), and we're working on our Group 4 project. Because it's a new program, we only offer IB Biology and IB Chemistry. Because our school doesn't offer more courses, is it still necessary to have other disciplines other than Biology and Chemistry?

We just got our group 4 assignment and teams today. The topic that we were given was leaves. I've been trying to think up some ideas for an experiment to conduct around this subject. I don't know how far I should stray away from it since it's pretty broad. I've been thinking of things like using leaves/the plant's seeds as a bioassay medium, some how testing different things with the soil and relating it to how the leaves grow and etc (I don't know. This is my first year in chemistry and I was thrown into IB chem...so sorry if I seem like I don't know what I'm talking about ha). I also have to keep in mind that while we're forming this experiment/our question and such, we…

Hey, I'm a Biology SL student and I need to do my Groupg 4 project. I have absolutely no idea on how to do it, as our biology teacher is not very helpful. Our main topic is environment and our group's subtopic is water pollution. We have to investigate a stream that flows through the city. It is definitely polluted. It's area is <100m2 and it is a very weak stream. Could you help me to come up with a topic, as I'm not bio-savvy and have no idea how to come-up with the topic? I would EXTREMELY appreciate your help

Okay, so we have our G4 project coming up and the planning is due next week. We were told today that the theme is going to be the , drumroll please... 'beach'. That's just so vague. When I thought of beach, I kinda thought about pollution, because Singapore's beaches aren't exactly clean now. What do you guys reckon as some suitable subtopic? And btw, is it the same topic for all the guys in the M08 'xams or is it a school free choice?

Hello, fellow International Baccalaureate students! I need your help here please with the Group 4 project. This year, our class has been the first IB class at my school required to take IB Biology our Junior year. We also have IB Physics HL as a 6th subject at my school. We have no other IB sciences. Our teacher is new to understanding IB in general and we are receiving many conflicting and confusing statements from him. I cannot find any requirements for the Group 4 project set out by IBO. Can somebody please inform me on what they are? Are projects supposed to be analyzed from Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Environmental points of view? Are we allowed to or supposed t…

Hi people, So I have a group 4 project whose theme is Kitchen Science. My group consists of chemists and biologists. My idea was to measure the fat, protein, carbohydrate and fiber content of several foods from our school canteen. Yet while researching, there is no way to measure the contents of fat, protein, carbohydrate and fiber using the technology of our school (it requires a bomb calorimeter and other high-end equipment not normally found in high schools). So what other ideas you guys suggest me to do (topic is Kitchen Science)? Or do you know an alternative way to measure protein, fat, carbohydrate and fiber in foods? P.S. It must be achievable in 16 hours ti…

HIE, We had been given a task for a group four project on water as a mixed group(10 students) from all science subjects. so we were planning to have something which will incoporate aspects from biology, physics and chemistry. we decided to investigate the % of impurities( mainly lead) in the water we drink at school and find out its effect on health. is this a good topic to do or we must chose something else? please feel free to add more suggestions.

So this year, the theme is: "National Parks." My partners and I are struggling with finding an overarching investigation question. I am in IB Biology, whereas my partners are in IB SPORTS/EXERCISE/HEALTH SCIENCE and IB Physics. It is easy for us to connect the question with Bio and Sports Science yet it is difficult connecting it to Physics. Note: IB SPORTS/EXERCISE/HEALTH SCIENCE is the study of the human body (muscles, ligaments, bones, organs etc.) PLEASE HELP!

Me and my group are doing a group 4 project investigating on chocolate. Are there any biological and chemistry aspects for this topic? I can only think of these, but I don't know if they work or not. Biology: Investigating on how the chemicals found in chocolate affect the human body Chemistry: Determining the fat content (Does gerber's method work?) Determining the sugar content (Benedict's test) Any advice and suggestions?

Hi, I saw really good examples on topics of chemistry and biology. Would it be possible to provide some samples of topics and subtopics of Physics and Chemistry about Group 4 project? Also, I heard that we have to write a reflection on it individually; I am really wondering for the reflections, is it simply what you personally think and learn or do we have to follow any format?

Hey everyone, my school is new to the IB diploma and very unorganized! My coordinator apparently does not answer the questions we ask him, he just tells us that he will take care of everything, but nothing is happening. I am doing my IB this May. Now we have done the Biology Group 4 Project. Now our Computer Science teacher told us that we have to do a Group 4 Project in Computer Science as well. Some people tell us now that we have to do only one Group 4 Project, some say that we have to do one in both subjects. Apparently I did not find anything about this in the guides or anywhere on the internet. Thanks for any help, Chris

Hi, so I have a group 4 lab-write up due Friday for Biology, and one due soon (whenever my teacher considers soon) in Chemistry. I was wondering...how exactly is the Biology one constructed? Because our teacher hasn't mentioned it, other than giving us colors having to do with bacteria results and birds; and everyone I know is confused. Is this mainly based on research done on your own? Also, is it constructed like a normal long lab write up? And, (last question I promise) how long should I expect this to take? Thanks in advance for any help.

My team and I have 2 ideas so far, making a solar charger for a phone, or a couple of small scale hydro and eolic plants. The project is tomorrow (I know, should have done it earlier) and the problem is that we think the solar charger is too simple, but the plants are too complicated, and we can't find the materials to do them. Anyone have any ideas on what we could do to make the plants simpler, or the solar charger more complicated? Here are links to the projects: http://m.instructables.com/id/Solar-Altoids-USB-Charger/?ALLSTEPS http://www.all-science-fair-projects.com/project1393_29.html
