Ok. So a today there was at least 2 people asking about American unis and GPAs. If you are an international student you usually don't have a GPA but there is a way to calculate it. The uni I am going to next year in the states has a calculator on their website, but it only good for their school... I think, but I have googled it for all of you. This is the page at my school explaining what a GPA is: http://www.missouristate.edu/registrar/gpa.html this is a link from that same page to their calculator which might provide some help: https://www.ws.missouristate.edu/admissions/gpacalculator/ this is one is for you GPA by semester... to get your cumulative GPA, just take the a…

ACT or SAT? 1 2

Hello everyone, I'm in IB1 year and I want to start taking SAT or ACT as well, but I'm not sure which one to take. Since I'm an international student ACT seems easier in terms of vocab but we have a score choice in SAT and that's what confuses me. Any ideas? Or does it make a difference for universities?

Ok, im from Canada and whatnot and people are talking about how they want to go to universities in America. Generally, I think that Canadians think that American Universities are better ( they are but....) So, I was wondering if American students think the same or they know any famous Canadian Universities.

Hi all, I am a May 2010 candidate and I will be writing my SAT's soon and I was curious as to what scores fellow IB students got. If it is not too much trouble, can those who wrote their SAT's and got back a mark please share their SAT 1 and SAT 2 scores along with the subject that they took the test in? As well, can you please share which universities in the US you guys applied to? Thanks for your help.

Most universities pretty much overlook the IB diploma and only use it for determining credit, espicially in Canada. Anybody know any schools that really like IB diploma students. I know SFU really likes IB students.

On December 15th, 2008 at 9PM MIT gave out the answers to all 5000 early action applicants. Of those only about 500 made it and the rest got either rejected or deferred into the next admissions decision in April where another 300 will be selected. Other than being one of the most selecitve colleges in the world and the top 1 in many engineering careers, it is also said to be an amazing place to live in. As of monday, me and a friend became the first ever MIT admitted students in our school's history; we are extremely happy about this. I'd have to say IB in a way helped so thanks to everyone here for everything, I really loved the forums. Of course I won't stop now and ex…

I'm taking SAT II math: level 1 in June, and some unis recommend 3 subject tests, some for placement some for admission (Harvard, Georgetown, etc.) , so is it really worth taking 3 subject tests in addition to IB, or 1 + high grades (IB) will suffice? I'm confused! should I take 2 more with IB? IF I were take them which are the easiest to get 800 in? (forget eng lit or any other lang!) ThanQ,,

Hey , my goal is to be able to enter one of the ivy leagues in US , mainly because of the 100% scholarship aid they can offer to those who need it . Anyway , besides having an amazing strive and passion and being unique over other , I want to know what else do I need ? I'm currently doing IB and taking my SAT in June so I just want to know what kind of IB scores and SAT scores would it require to enter Harvard , MIT , Princeton , Brown , Cornell , Yale . I know I seem like i'm dreaming huge , but I know anything is possible if one puts enough effort into it .

What would be the IB subjects that is needed to have an exam in (e.g Math Studies and Lang. B) to apply to Law School? Well, this ended up becoming more questions th…

I'm in Grade 11 IB (aka Year 1) in an Ontario public school and my question is, if I'm getting 70s on my report card, is university going to give me higher marks? I know that the general perception is that your marks decrease by 5-15% as you transition from high school to uni but that I think only applies to the Academic (ie regular high school) program. IB is significantly harder than Academic in my school atleast. My coordinator says that IB is harder than anything you will ever do in your future, but he's probably biased. I've heard that IB is just as hard as first year but then university gets harder. I've hard from separate sources that first-year uni is the hardest …

Hey I got a total of 39 and I’m considering taking a gap year. I really want to study in an English-spoken country, but since I’m neither a citizen nor a resident of any of those countries, I’ve to pay high tuition fees, which my family cannot afford at all. Therefore, I’m looking for a place (university) where you can get big scholarships that cover most of tuition fees. Do you have any suggestions? More details: I would like to study in the field of computer science and/or IT (Information Technology). My final grades are as follows: Self-taught A SL: 7 Danish B SL: 6 English B HL: 6 Economics SL: 6 Physics HL: 7 Math HL: 6 Bonus points: 1 (EE in physics: B, Tok: C) In t…

Ok, so I'm kind of a noob here, so if I mess up, please dont ban me or anything. (cause there are forums where if you make 1 mistake, you're out) Anyways, I just wanted to know how the IB is seen by schools in the states, especially compared to the AP. My school offers both, and before I joined the IB, I fired off some emails asking the age-old IB vs AP question. All of my replies were ambiguous and not very helpful. However, I recently attended a presentation by stanford where the woman talking about Stanford said that if the IB is offered at your school, it is expected that you take it. Why didn't they just come out and say that from the start, and more importantly, if …

From the results of my school and friends abroad, I have found that in this years US admission cycle, there is no apparent correlation between SAT scores and university acceptance. However that being said, for the ED rounds of ivy league schools, the SAT score standard has still been high, with the median of the admitted people to Dartmouth College being 2300. It is wonderful that in these past few days there were major celebrations for some of my classmates, as they thanked god that they have been admitted to their supposedly 'reach' schools. Others remain disappointed and anxious after being rejected from their supposedly 'safeties'. When, in the first place, the univer…

Hello there! Wow it's been a while since I started a thread. Anyway, I am currently in my gap year and it recently occurred to me that, apart from the UK, I could also apply to universities in Canada. I would apply to US as well, but I am too lazy to take any SATs - other than my math level 1 and 2 . So I have been looking around and I have concluded that I will apply to the University of Toronto (which I absolutely loved), McGill university and the University of British Columbia. I have sent my applications to the later because they are not using the OUAC thing (I am such a noob!), but I have not fully completed my paperwork. My top priority right now though, is the Uni…

Hey guys, First some background info: I got 2200 on my SAT's, 800 in Maths. For my 3 SAT II's, I plan to get roughly 750-800. Im about to enter 2nd semester of IB1, so im not too sure what my scores will be, but im pretty sure i'll be predicted 7's and 6's, probably around 38-42.. I'm going to apply to MIT, Harvard, etc and I need a good safety school? Im an international student, so I don't have a state school in the US to go to. Can you guys make any recommendations?

Hey So I'm done with my first year of IB (Grade 11) and received my result for the second semester about an hour ago. Happily or sadly, I've managed to score 37 points (Keep in mind that these points are ONLY for the second semester. My average score for both the semesters is 34/42). I'm currently deciding on my course options for IB, and I really want to take math studies. Math has always been my weak point - I pretty much have perfect grades in everything else. I took IGCSE extended math this year (I didn't take core because I did NOT want a C as my highest grade) and I've found it pretty challenging. I'm really interested in the humanities, and for like half my life, I've known that I want to be a psychologist / neuropsychologist. I know I need stats for that, and looking at the math studies curriculum, it's pretty stats intensive (more so, even, than math SL). Would american universities care whether I took math studies? If it helps, I'm intereste…
