Hello, I am now a few months into my first year of IB. Throughout the semester I have been researching universities and majors that may interest me. I am mostly a math/science guy who also interester in economics. One thing I noticed during my "research" is all the UK universities that automatically denies your application if you do not have higher level mathematics with the grade of 6 or higher for studies with a scent of science or math. (Including most economical courses). So my question is... Does the top-notch universities in USA follow the same agenda? Would I be able to study, for example, Applied Mathematics with Math SL? And if of any help, I also study Physics H…

Hello everyone, Now that we are all looking for Universities, I was wondering how useful was the IB. When you apply to a university with IB, you only need to submit the predicted grade and english proficiency score, and some other non-educational documents, or do you still need to send your scores obtained in High School?

So long story short, I couldn't do my SATs this year so I'm waiting until next year to apply to the US. The university that I'm really considering is University of Maryland, which when I spoke to them said they wanted around 1400 (I think) in SATs without the writing section. Also, I was informed that I get credits if I get a level 5 or more in my HL subjects. The thing is, the university is so popular that it will be competitive to get in, as they will obviously choose the best students so I don't know what I will be up against. Also, will they consider GCSE grades? Mine were good, but not the best (3 A*s: Biology, Maths, Arabic; 4 As: English Literature, Chemistry, Art,…

I just got my acceptance letter to Auburn University Fall 2014 semester on October 14! I paid my deposit October 15 because it was my #1 school choice after touring the college last fall. So if any one has any tips (about the dorms, scholarships, programs, classes, anything really) or is going to Auburn University and can tell me about your experience let me know because I'm feeling kind of clueless. I'm coming from Virginia so it's 10 hours away from my parents, but only an hour- 2 hours away from the majority of my family that lives in Georgia. I'm also going into the Pre-med program so if anyone has tips on that please let me know

Hi all ! Well I am never crossing more than 600 or 700 in SAT main, and in SAT main subjects like Maths and US History. I always study the guide thing from the books and then only practice 1 question paper. Is there wrong in this strategy? I need to improve my scores, but I don't know if it is necessary to go through the guide, or just immediately start practicing. Thanks!

Hi IB-ers I'm an Indonesian student currently about to finish my first year of IB Grade 11, and I really want to apply to the University of Pennsylvania (my dream school). However, I'm completely lacking in my extracurricular activities..I've done a few things here and there, volunteered for a few events, taught English to underprivileged students, had an internship, etc., but I still feel it's not enough and I've only got one summer left before Grade 12 begins and I have to take the SAT subject tests (which I've never taken before), do my application essays, so on..anyways, I'm pretty stressed out right now and worried about the whole university process thing, so do you…

Hello, I recent issue I've had that in my past SAT2 Exam i came to the test unprepared, i only did Math2 and physics. I found Math 2 easy as it was very similar to our IB Math HL syllabus but i have found physics very different. I think i did fairly well on the math but not so much on the physics, so my question is: Does having bad SAT2 scores rule out the chance of being admitted to prestigious universities even though i have strong SAT reasoning scores and a high IB predicted?

I'm not sure where I want to study yet. But, I'm thinking on whether I should change my subject list or not. Currently: -Math, Economics, Business (HL) -Chemistry, Eng LL, Spanish Ab initio Possibly, would-be: -Math, Economics, Business, Computer Science (HL) -Eng LL, Spanish Ab initio. Reason I'm changing from chem to c.sc is I feel c. sc. is more practical and makes more sense for me. A lot of kids in my school took 4 + HLs. I like computers. I would appreciate your inputs. Do colleges prefer more HLs/ greater scores?

I've been wanting to take business (finance) but my Math SL score has been a constant 5 and I think most business schools only accept students who get 6s or above in math. Are there any reasonably good Canadian Universities that will accept a student with math scores like mine into their business school? (my overall grade is normally 34 and the highest i've gotten is 35)

I'm extremely confused by the application process. I'm currently completing my OUAC applications. I plan on studying law in the future and I'm wondering whether that is possible for me to do if I pick Arts & Sciences. If you have any additional information on studying law in Canada, that would greatly be appreciated! I'm applying to: Western, UBC, UofT, Queens, York and SFU with a score of 32-34 for Arts & Sciences. I have quite a large range of extra-curricular activities. What are the chances of getting into these universities? Thank you!

So I want to study business management but I'm worried that math studies won't count towards maths credits. I'm applying to the UK and know that math studies is acceptable but for the US I'm not quite sure. I'm not really a maths person and was told that I would excel at studies but I can't change from standard to studies if colleges in the US won't accept it. I'm not applying to Ivy League schools and I already know that I would need to take SATs and possible subject tests. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everybody I have begun DP last year. I have my predicted grade all in sevens. My subjects are English B HL, Physic HL, Chemistry SL,Georgaphy HL, Persian Sl (self tought) and Math SL. I was wondering what my chances are of getting into an Ivy League school like Princeton or Yale. If not Ivy League, I at least want to get into University of Michigan. I go to a school ranked #18 in the nation as a public school. This school is also ranked the #1 IB school in the nation. My cumulative GPA is around a 3.7. So I want to apply to an American university (specifically Maryland, College Park) and I am looking to apply for an undergraduate degree major in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science. From my understanding, you need to have a good set of results and a wide range of extra curricular activities in order to prove yourself worthy of getting into university, as it is extremely competitive. I'm trying to use CAS as an opportunity for this, however I don't know what kind of work experience (and where I'd actually be able to do it) would be useful in relation to my chosen major. I was thinking to work with a charity dealing with natural disasters related to oceans and stuff e.g. flood…

Hey I got a total of 39 and I’m considering taking a gap year. I really want to study in an English-spoken country, but since I’m neither a citizen nor a resident of any of those countries, I’ve to pay high tuition fees, which my family cannot afford at all. Hello all! I am from Canada, and will be a senior this year - so I have to start applying to universities :-S I am applying mostly to Canadian unis, but of course there's a part of me that wants to apply to the Ivy League schools - you know, just to give it a try. The annoying thing is the SAT's, but I think I could get through them if I knew it was worth it.. So my question is: is it worth my time applying to an Ivy League school? Is it just a brand-name education that I'll be getting? Is it worth the obscene amount of money I'd have to spend? Will it make a difference if I study in the US, or here in Canada...?

Hey! So I found out about 5 days ago that Georgia Institute of Technology has my major. I found out when I was about 11 that GT didn't have my major of Pre-med, however it seems to be a recently added major and so I would love to apply there. Their website says they have a 52% acceptance rate which makes me confident, yet I don't know because it seems to be a really good school so I don't know if I could get in. My stats are pretty low... For example: 1) GPA: 3.52ish weighted 2) SAT: 1620 (540 math, 550 reading, 530 writing) …

Hey guys, I am going on to my final year of high school and I wanted to apply to UC Berkeley and UCLA for engineering. Currently I am working towards my Ontario High school diploma (along with IB ofcourse!) But here's my main concern: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/requirements/a-g-requirements/index.html#history So for UC admissions, it says the "accepted" courses that I had to take in HS are all IB HL subjects. On top of that, it says I need two years of History/Social Science courses or 4 semesters of it. Being in Ontario, I only had to take two semesters (Geo and Canadian History) and I'm taking Econ HL, which apparently doesn't qualify as a Soci…

Hi guys, I am quite unfamiliar with university choices, so I just wanted to ask for some advice. I currently have a PG of 40/42 and a SAT score of 2160. I would most probably apply for a liberal arts degree in the US. I would like to aim for universities instead of colleges, and probably those that most people have heard of (sorry if i sound too snobbish). I have no particular preference for a "city" or "countryside" university, nor about how "traditional" or "non-traditional" the atmosphere is. From my superficial understanding, the universities all seem the same/ similar, so what universities would you suggest I look deeper into?

Hello people: I have a question regarding studying Medicine in Canada. In Australia we have two stream; on is the undergraduate stream, in which takes 6 years and requires you to sit the UMAT, and the other one is postgraduate stream, which takes 4 years and requires you to sit GAMSAT at some stage of your university life. My question is, does Canada offer undergraduate medicine like Australia? Or is it all postgraduate medicine like America. And if so, if there any clinical aptitude test that comes with it? And how difficult is it?

So, I'm going to take the SAT and Biology + US History Subject Tests. Is reading the whole Official SAT Study Guide overkill? I really want at least 700. The book is ~1000 pages, and my test is in late October, so, ~25 pages a day? If I do it, will it increase my score to near 800, or will I get a meltdown in my brain because of cramming? Haha, please help, don't know how to study for it.

I have a few questions regarding how colleges recalculate our GPA's. I've seen on other blogs, where people have really high GPA's (>4) because of the AP classes they take. My question here is regarding how colleges weigh IB classes. Do they weigh only the Higher Level classes or both? I would appreciate it if i could know the weighing scale for all IB classes, and whether freshman year is accounted for in the GPA for the following colleges - 1. Cornell University 2. Carnegie Mellon 3. UC Berkeley 4. University of Pennsylvania Thank You
