Hi guys, I'm an international IB student from SE Asia and I was wondering if people have gotten in with low predicted grades to U Waterloo CS and U of Toronto SG CS. Mine is currently at 38/45 points (36/42) but can go up 2 extra points by December if I perform well in sem exams. I should be getting 40/45 (38/42) as I have already shown a lot of improvement (Yes, I messed up grade 11). Anyway, here are my predicted grades by subject (as of NOW): - 7 in HL Physics 6 in HL Math 5 in HL Chem (will defo go to a 6 by December) 7 in SL Economics 6 in SL French …

I am currently in year 1 and am a bit worried if taking math applications and interpretations SL will harm my chances of getting into a decent college in the US. My HLs include bio and chemistry (also economics) because I am interested in a major relating to biology or biochemistry. I know that in certain European countries they don't accept math AI SL, but I thought that maybe in the US since they're pretty holistic they wouldn't mind as much, but now that I think about it, because I am interested in the STEM field, choosing a course that is equivalent to the past math studies might not look so good. I was thinking that maybe I can compensate by getting good marks …

Hey guys, I was wondering if the following subjects would allow me to take an Economics Course in the top colleges in the United States, especially Ivy leagues? I am keeping the option of Ivy Leagues open here. I have taken the combination based on the idea of managing my academics with personal developments and creativity. (Balance between logic and creativity). I do have an interest in Media and designing. I could replace CS with DT if required to show colleges the idea of handling challenges. I have just finished an MYP course. 1. English HL 2. Math AI HL 3. Economics HL 4. DT SL 5. Film SL 6. French AB SL

Hi, ij my IB programme chose Film HL. My plan is to study math but i am also very passionate about arts and especially filmmaking. I have taken the idea of combining my academics with creativity, balance between logic and creativity. But I am scared that choosing film because it can look like that i am taking it just to boost up my GPA. Many people think like this when I tell them that I chose Film HL. But I am very passionate about it, and I will produce many short movies or documentaries about my other interests, such as math and sciences. So I will work hard to do my best in film. Do you think it will be a disadvantage and cause me to not get accepted in elite schools?…

Hi, I am a student from India I just started with IB after giving my IGCSE exams. I am looking to pursue CS in universities from US, Canada, Singapore. I am a bit confused with my subject selection- Maths (Analysis and Approaches) HL Physics HL CS HL ITGS SL English (first language) SL Hindi (second language) SL Now the problem is that if I want to keep options in India, I need to take chemistry instead of CS. As I am not at all interested in chemistry, I will take it at SL level, meaning I then have to take Hindi/ ITGS at HL level. Based on the current selection, I have eliminated Ind…

Hi, so I'm going into grade 12 and I want to go to university out of province. I have a part time job and so far, I've saved up a bit over 2K I'll have AT LEAST 5Kish saved up by the time I go to university. I'm also taking out student loans and the universities I am applying to have some really nice scholarships and some of them are just based on marks. Do you think that'll be enough? Because I REALLY want to go to uni out of province and my parents probably aren't helping much with that. What is a good amount roughly if you're going out of province? I'm planning on cutting costs I can control such as the cost of textbooks (I can hunt for cheaper ones on Amazon and buy …

I am interested on going to NYUAD and I have seen how amazing the uni is and I instantly fell in love with the programme and the facilities. My only issue is the life outside the campus, so I will just make a list and if anyone can answer at list one it would be already a huge help!! Is it safe for a girl ? what precautions should I take for my safety? can I smoke, drink or drive? do you think a European girl would adapt well in Abu Dhabi? thank you in advance!

So what do you guys think? I wanna apply to the US. The only problem is, as i'm planning to do medicine, i first have to study Biochemistry as an undergraduate. Is it possible to get into Biochemistry with Math Studies (predicted level 7). On top of it i'm obviously doing Chemistry and Bio (predicted level 6 and 7). If yes, would that only be the case for the smaller colleges or the Ivy league as well? What's your opinion?

When I applied for the IB my mind was set on either studying Psychology or Law in university (I want to study either in the US or Canada) so that's why I chose these subjects: Psychology HL History HL English A HL Swedish A HL Biology SL Math Studies SL However, I have recently been really interested in the sciences, especially Biology, and was considering going to med school after earning my undergraduate degree. Are there any universities in Canada and US that accept math studies if you want to study Psychology? I tried looking up universities in Canada and the ones I found don't accept it, are there any that do? Please help cause I'm freaking out, and I'm not able to change to Math SL and I'm afraid that I won't get in. What about US colleges (even though I would rather study in Canada) it doesn't really say much about IB on their websites.

Hi, I have started the first year of the IB Diploma Programme. I am taking Language A at SL, Language B at HL, philosophy at SL (I have no other choice, but so far all my grades were around 7), Turkey in the Twentieth Century (this is an SL only course only for Turkish students), Physics HL and Maths HL. I think physics HL and maths HL are quite a lot when taken together (It's not like I am bad at them, my score is generally better than most of my classmates, but I do not know how I would fare in an actual, IB style exam, since ,n my school we try to learn both the IB curriculum and the national curriculum.), but they seem to be unnecessary for someone who wants to g…

Hi everyone, I am currently studying in Year 12 (Grade 11) and I'm wondering when do I apply. I visited many different Canadian unis website but all I can see is dates and deadline. Do I apply during my senior year or after my graduation? Because I see IB general requirement for a score to be eligible to apply, but wouldn't that be finalized after my graduation? Another concern that I have is that if I have to use my predicted score to apply this post-2019, I wouldn't get accepted since I'm going to be honest, my first term score is horrible: Mathematics SL 3, Computer Science HL 4, English A SL 4, Business Management HL 6, French AB 4, Music HL 5, Overall 26. I’ve already chosen my subjects for the IB which was based on my interest and availability at my school. So i have in HL: English B, Economics and Psychology. Then in SL: Swedish A, Biology and also Math studies. But then when it comes to a major I don’t know what I would want/qualifie to choose since the schools I have looked at doesn’t say what you really need. I mean I know that with these subjects I couldn’t get in to medical school which I don’t want. I am interested in my subjects and would be interested in something like communication or politics but I just don’t if there’s a major that fits with my subjects.

To whoever reads this forum, hi I'm a dp2 student who's going to take the ib exams next year may. I got a 40/45 as my predicted score and I'm hoping to apply to UofT, McGill, and University of Waterloo So far I know that we have to apply for Ontario universities through the OUAC application but I don't really get how we are supposed to send our Predicted scores. I'm aiming to get into the Health Sciences program at McMaster University or Life Sciences at UofT, but I'm wondering whether I should take HL or SL chemistry. I know that it would be easier to get higher grades in SL, but I've also heard that HL helps a lot in terms of understanding university content. How much of a difference is there between the two? Are marks more important or is knowledge more important? For those who have taken HL - how much does it help in uni?

I don't know how big a role the school reputation plays but – current school: a new school in India, old school (I did IGCSE here): a fairly good school in Hong Kong). Hello, I am currently taking Bio SL and struggling. Over the last month, I have had the EE, IA for History and IA for Bio, during the time I have also had my computer break so I had to go a while working off my phone and then my sisters Ipad. Additionally, I was unable to studies well for some IB Bio quizzes and thus did badly. However, I am unsure if I am struggling in the class because of these circumstances or if I really am just struggling with the content. Risky Essays?

I'm Canadian student who's thinking of applying to Stanford So, I found that essay is a big part of the admission process and that is almost the only opportunity to make me stand out, since I'm not a national level athlete, musician, scientist, etc. Also, people around me said that I'm "unpredictable" and "full of random, useless, dangerous but fun ideas", I feel like my essay will be naturally be very risky if I write about my true self. However, I'm ready to keep the level of creativity relatively low and seal up some of my random thoughts if that will be 'better'. In this case, will it be more helpful to go risky and write down my creative **** or go c…

Calculating GPA?

Hello people, I'm a Canadian student who is thinking of applying to US universities for 2019 years. So, I started filling out my application and in CommonApp, there is this section where you have to put your GPA, class ranking, GPA scale and more. This got me few questions: 1. Do I have to ask my counselor for my GPA? 2. I want to calculate my GPA by myself so I can determine my safety and reach school. According to my knowledge, US high schools have four years, right? but in my region, we only have three years. In this case, should I use my grade 9 grade from junior high school to calculate my GPA? 3. If 2. is yes, my junior high school gave st…

Hi, As the college application process nears, I'm getting increasingly concerned with the state of my extracurricular activities. I'm getting the impression that they're all over the place, and that they don't indicate a particular passion for anything. I feel like I've fallen into the trap of being that student who does tons of random ECs for the sake of doing tons of ECs, with nothing to show for it. Here's my list of standout ECs so far: - Student council PR officer (11th grade + maybe 12th) - Co-president of this service club called TESOL, where we teach English to Chinese staff and their families at our school (I go to an international school in Beijin…

The IB exams are happening right now and based on how my recent physics examination went, I'm not sure if I will be able to meet the minimum requirements for earning the IB diploma; a total score of 24 with a total of 12 with all of the higher level subjects combined with a 3 in only one of them. I am good at math + I like it. (I am also fine with non-calculator questions) I would want to do tests from Physics and Chemistry. (I want to be a chemical engineer, so that's why) I…

Hey everyone! I was accepted to study Life Sciences at the University of Toronto. The system in Canada seems to be different to the one in the UK, wherein you don't actually get a specific offer that you need to reach. On the terms and conditions of my offer it just says "The University reserves the right to withdraw this offer of admission if you do not maintain your current academic standing, particularly in any of the required courses, and if you fail to obtain the Diploma of the International Baccalaureate". Does this mean I can lose a few points and still be accepted into the university, and if so, how many would I be able to lose? (This is just in the worst case sce…
