Hi My name is Aquilina and I am currently a 11th grader studying IB in Beijing. I love both chemistry and art, and am very interested in promoting science/chemistry communication through art and design. Thus, I am considering applying for Brown-RISD-dual-degree or BU CFA/CAS dual degree for chemistry and graphic design. I wonder about my chance of getting into the 2 schools. My score this semester would probably be a 38/39 out of 42, and I am getting continuous high honor rolls since I entered international school last year (I was in Chinese public school in 9th grade). I haven't taken SAT yet, but have a 110 in TOEFL. Below are my extracurriculars…

Hey, guys. I have just started my IBDP and these are my current subjects: HL: Chemistry, Biology, English SL: Psychology, French, Maths I was initially okay with taking Maths SL but now that the school year has officially begun, it's kind of intimidating me. I'm not horrible at Math, but I'm not super comfortable with it either. I'd have no problem taking it but I'm afraid it might lower my score. I was wondering if taking Mathematical Studies instead would cause a problem? I'm planning to go for Medicine, most likely in the US, or Canada. I just don't want to take any chances and risk dropping my score just because of a confusion. I've…

So far since the beginning of this semester I have done great, with mostly 7s for predicted. I was confident that, if I could a good job on supplementaries, I won't have any trouble getting into my dream schools and programs. However a few weeks ago life has hit me hard on my face. My mother passed away very suddenly and I am essentially in a wreck. I have been forcing myself to study and stuff, even though all my teachers are advising me otherwise, because I really want to make my mother happy by being able to get into my dream schools. Still, it's been hard, and my grades are somewhat slipping from tests in the last 2 weeks. I am wondering about extenuating c…

Hello, I have decided that its time to drop HL math. I've figured that if struggle the entire year to get a 3-4 in math HL, its not worth it. I rather get a 7 in SL math. My other HL subjects are physics (going good), ITGS (going good). Both subjects 6 or 7 (mostly 7). Question 1) If I drop HL math I can choose from 3 other HL subjects (i'll be taking math SL): Business management, Chemistry or English. I'm good at English, okay at chemistry and have a small understanding in BM. Question 2) I want to be a software engineer. I know both python and Java and have multiple extra curricular actives logged in (including the silver DOE award, planning on doing gol…

Hi all, I am currently applying to the US (fall 2017) and noticed that most of the regular decision application deadlines are in the first week of january, does this refer to the last day to start an application or the last day to send in documents/grades (because our mock grades are released at the end of january/beginning of February as well as the SAT results). Will they still accept my mock grades and end of year report in jan/feb or do i have to be completely finished with the application before the january deadline on their website. Thanks.

Hey, I am new on this site, so sorry if this is the wrong board, or the question is a little dumb I just started the first year of the DP, and am taking Math, Physics and History HL, and Economics, English a langlit, and german a langlit SL. I really want to study Mathematics in a good university in the US, and was wondering if I switch to Economics HL (im more of a statistics guy rather than physics guy), and Physics SL, and provided I take the Math 2 and physics SAT subject tests, would I still be able to do so... Switching History would be a shame bc its my fav. subject (lmao if the username wasn't a hint), and its almost like a distraction from the o…

Hi guys, just wondering, how much wiggle room will you get to get accepted? For example, I get predicted a 37 but my actual score is 35. Would they not accept me then? Or will they only accept people who drop by 1 point? I'm talking about the U.S. btw. Ps. Does anyone know how to get the average IB accepted for universities? And does anyone know the average IB accepted per subject? I want to apply for NYU communications with an IB of 38 hopefully.

Hi, does anyone know if we need 2 teacher recommendation letters when applying to UC schools? It says they don't need it but MIGHT ask for it. I'm planning to only ask 1 teacher and 1 optional teacher who used to be my teacher before he moved. Because the one teacher I'm currently asking is one who's subject I'm good at. The rest of my subjects aren't getting good scores so I didn't want to ask any other teacher. What do you suggest? Should I STILL get 2 current teacher recommendations?

Hi guys, I'm sitting for 2016 nov exam and prepare to apply us universities for 2017 fall, but I currently have a HUGE PROBLEM with my predicted grade!!!!!! First our coordinator said he won't tell us our predicted grade since it may affect our attitude towards the final exam. Also, some of our IB teachers said they would predict one mark lower than our actual mock grade. Because most of students in our school only attend local universities, so they don't really care about predicted grades. And the boundaries for some subjects are quite strict in our school as well. For example, a 87% for math HL to get a 7 (when I check official boundaries, it's usually a 79%-8…

I live in a place that's relatively starved of math competitions and research internship opportunities. Although there are is a math competition, I heard about it too late, and now I only have one shot at it. I started a Math club at my school and I've tutored underprivileged kids in math, but are there any other math-related things that I could do?

I'm studying in an International School in SE Asia and I'm doing the IB diploma. I did the SAT with a score of 1280/1600 although I'm doing it again soon so it might increase. I am predicted to likely get the following IB grades: HL Math - 5 HL Physics - high 6 HL Computer Science - high 6 (possible chance to get a 7) In total, about 36-38 IB points. My CGPA is around 3.87 on 4.33 scale. With these grades, is it possible to get into the University of Waterloo's David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science as an International student? Thanks!

Hello,So I'm applying as a gap year international student with my final IB grades ready. On the common app, I submit my grade 12th mid-year grades as my mid-report and my final grades IB grades as my final report. Now I'm not quite sure how universities consider IB school scores. I had a rather deep blip during my mid-year scores, and went to a 36/42 on my mid-year (34 average I believe?). I got myself together in time for my final IB grades and pulled myself up to a 43/45, the top in my school. My SAT is 1460 but I'm going to retake it this October. Now, I'm planning on applying to Amherst and a few Ivy league universities (UPenn, Dartmouth etc..) and so I'm wondering whe…

This fall I'm entering the pre-IB program, and even though college isn't for a while, I like to plan ahead. I currently play a sport but I don't want to do it competitively in high school because of the time requirements - I'd basically have no free time for other activities between IB and a year-round sport. I was wondering whether or not colleges actually care about clubs. Two clubs I want to get involved in are photography and science club. I'll still do the sport recreationally (great CAS hours), I just won't compete or dedicate my life to it. I know here in America sports are everything to a lot of people, and especially to a lot of colleges, so I feel as thoug…

Just wondering. For instance, if someone wanted to apply to Harvard for Pre Med, will taking Maths Hl be necessary? Sample schedule: IB Math HL IB Chem HL IB Bio HL IB English HL (no English sl) IB Spanish 3 SL IB History of Americas SL A Junior at my school is doing a schedule like this. Is such a schedule ever even needed for Harvard or any really prestigious university? He claims that he wants to get the max college credit possible, and max out his chances of getting in. I'm just wondering if such a schedule is necessary. I know for a fact that this guy is most likely going to be valedictorian.

Hi, I'm wondering if taking math HL would increase my chances of admission to Ivy league colleges... Currently my options for IB are looking like this: HL = English Lit, Chem, Bio SL = National Lang A, Math, History Would this be considered rigorous enough? Or should I take: HL = Math, Chem, Bio SL = National Lang A, History, English Lit I'm also planning on doing my EE on English Lit so would taking that SL really affect it? Sorry for all the questions Btw I'm planning on majoring in biochemistry, then going to med school. My dream school is Johns Hopkins Thanks!

Hi guys, I'm in Grade 11 and I just dropped to partial IB because I was failing IB chemistry. I was just wondering if my horrible chemistry mark will affect my chances of getting into a good university like UBC, McGill, UofT. I will be taking normal Chemistry 11 and 12 but will my IB Chemistry 11 mark affect my acceptance. I am still in full IB as I have to finish this school year and next year I will be switching to partial. I hope to go into sciences in post-secondary and I was wondering on what IB HL courses I should take as our school only gives us the option of taking HL courses. I am getting 82% in IB English 11, 89% in IB Biology, 90% in IB Geography, 50% in I…

When applying to a U.S. university, is it possible to only send your IB score (and IB subject scores)? I am also taking regular classes and getting percentages and letter grades in those, so I have a normal school transcript, but I've been focusing on IB so my grades look pretty bad. I know at some schools you only have to take IB, and you don't even get normal school grades, so would U.S. universities accept only my IB scores? Thanks in advance!

Hello fellowers, I have finished two semesters in my national university quite unsuccessfully (cGPA of 3.00/4.00). I want to apply as a freshman to top universities in the USA and wonder if they will care about my 'past' bachelors. I can't apply to MIT as a freshman, because they have a restriction on that. What about other universities? Even if I am eligible to apply as a freshman, should I provide them a transcript from my university? I actually can make GPA of 4.00/4.00 in the upcoming semester. Could I say like "I was not being serious, I didn't want to, but I'm capable of doing it and I have proven it, so accept me"?:D Also, in my country we have a …

Hii, I've applied for computer science to waterloo, mcmaster and carleton. I don't know which one to choose. I already got into carleton and I have to reply soon. The thing is I haven't heard anything from the other two universities. I expect to hear from them in may as I read that that's when they make most of the offers. If I go to carleton, I get a scholarship. I also like the campus and how its near the rideau river. I've heard mcmaster is good too, but I'm not applicable for any scholarship. Waterloo is where I want to go, but I'm doubtful whether I'll get in. Should I accept carleton offer or decline and wait for the other two?

I'm choosing my IB courses today and you either take Math HL or English HL so the combinations are Math HL & English SL, Math SL & English HL, Math Studies SL & English HL. I was going to choose Math HL & English since I really don't like english and I'm stronger in math. Is is true that if I go to somewhere like Quebec or BC for undergrad studies, I will have trouble applying to other provinces' medical schools later? The main issue is Ontario; I've done some research and it seems to me that it's the only province without the in-province resident quotas. I know it's still early but I really want to keep doors open; I BC and Quebec sounds nice for undergrad, and I'd probably want to stay there, but I don't want to blow my chances of Ontario schools since there are so many medical schools there VS only the one in BC/QC...
