Hi guys. Here's my sitch. Even before I began the IBDP, I had already decided that I was not going to do anything science-related in college. I made this decision because I identified my strengths in commerce subjects such as Business and Global Perspectives during Year 10 and Year 11 of IGCSEs. So, when it came to deciding my IB subjects, choosing Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) as my only Group 4 subject was a no-brainer. (My subject choices are English HL, Math HL, Business HL, Mandarin Ab Initio, Music SL and ESS SL fyi) After being in this class for a year, I came to really enjoy the subject and became more interested in pursuing some form of environmental …

I don't think I did very well on my recent IB exams. However, I have over 95 for my in-class mark. Are IB marks required for Canadian universities or can we choose whether to give it to them or not? Will my chances be decreased if my IB marks are low?

Much to my disappointment, my second ACT Composite score was one point lower than my first. However, my second ACT writing score went up. When I apply at University will the ACT Composite Score and the ACT Writing Score be viewed independently? I got 30 Comp. and 8 Writing the first time, and 29 Comp. 9 Writing the second time. So in short, when I apply to University, will I be able to use the highest from both tests (30 Comp. 9 Writing)? I am concerned with this mostly because I don't want to keep paying for the Writing test (on future tests) if I don't have to. I'd like to raise my Composite a few more points, but I'm fine with the writing. Also, what are my chances of…

I really want to go to Harvard University (I would say MIT also, but that's next to impossible). Maybe this is a little bit too ambitious, but I still would like to try. I am hoping to apply next year. Math SL-6-94% French SL-7-99% (currently, this will fall as this mark is purely from writing) Chem HL-6-96% Physics HL-6-96% History HL-6-93% English HL-6-95% What are my chances of getting into Harvard if I managed I manage to keep my marks like this?

Hey guys, So I was unconditionally accepted to my first choice university, and the university counselor told me that I don't have to worry if I fail the IB (there may be a slight decrease in my scholarship but still). But they told me that "Bombing" my high school grades after university acceptance could convince them to rescind my acceptance. When American universities say "bombing", generally speaking what is the so called "borderline"? For example I got accepted with a 3.0 GPA, but when I looked at my grades at the moment it was around a 2.7 (technically 2.67). Would this be a definite situation to worry about, or am I still on the "safe side"? Thanks.

Hello, I recently got an offer of admission from McGill to the faculty of arts. I wanted to apply to Faculty of Arts and Science, but since they required two from science subjects as a requirement, I could not apply there. (I take art as my 6th subject) I was wondering if it is still possible to take some science programs (for example biology) as a minor even if I attend faculty of arts? Also I read that it is possible to earn a Bachelor of arts and science still belonging to the faculty of arts, but is this true? Thank you for your help in advance:)

Are any of y'all in Plan II or been accepted into the Plan II program at UT-Austin? I'm very interested in applying as it sounds similar to the IB learning style, plus I'd be able to double major in a science/engineering focused major, but I want to hear opinions on the program first. Also I've tried to find this, but does anyone know if you get automatic acceptance into Plan II for being in the top 7% of your class? I know I get automatic acceptance into the university, but I'm not sure that applies to Plan II.

Hey Guys, So I know our exams are nearing, yet i fail to garner the strength to actually regurgitate all this knowledge. I have been accepted to my first choice Uni in America and my grades have to be "commensurate with what I applied." As some of you may understand, I havent been able to decipher this cryptic, bloated message and have really no motivation to revise. Many applicants that are already in university have told me that I am already assured a spot as long as I pass but I am a bit skeptic about this. Nevertheless, I still havent been able to muster the strength to actually go through my notes AGAIN and do all these past papers. For perspective, we finished the B…

Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a situation here. I'm doing Maths HL with series and differential equations as the option, and I 'm confused whether I should take AP calculus 'BC' or not ? Hi! So I'm planning on going into Mechanical Engineering here in the United States. My courses and SAT are: Biology SL (taken - 5/7) Math SL Spanish SL AP Physics B English Literature HL History HL Psychology HL SAT: 2060 I've heard back from most of the colleges that I've applied to, but I'm curious if I will get into University of Virginia and Virginia Tech as I've heard their engineering programs are somewhat difficult to get accepted into. Thanks!

Hi, so, I just got the admission offers from UBC Arts and SFU Arts. I have made those faculties as my first choices, so I am glad that I got admitted to both faculties. The problem is, I really do not know what university I should choose. Here are benefits that I think each school offers to me. UBC: Better campus. Better learning experience. Better professors. More prestige. Friendlier environment (I had to go to SFU library because I'm an IB student and need the university resources for my IAs and EE, and from what I have seen, the campus is sooooooooo depressing. Ceilings are broken, buildings are so gray, and it's so quiet). SFU: Offers scholarship ($7000) …

I'm only in my first term of Y11. I'm aiming for chemistry in University of Washington. Any chance I can get into it with this score Eng A Lit SL - 5 Chi B HL - 5 (probably going to raise a level in term two, was close to getting a 6, the orals affected me) Math HL - 5 Chem HL - 6 Biology SL -5 Economics SL - 7 = 33 Haven't taken SAT, but I should get around 1800. Let's say I get 34 with that one point out of three points. Is this a really bad grade in IB? Is there a good chance I can get into this University?

I'm trying to get an idea of what college I'd like to shoot for. I'm extremely interested in anything in the field of the arts, like drawing & painting, writing, music, interior designing, and a few others. Problem is, I'm trying to find some good liberal arts colleges (preferably in the US) that have a fairly good acceptance rate (maybe 40% and higher) and offer a lot of choices in their variety of majors and such. They don't have to be big name colleges/universities, but they have to be good ones!

Hey guys, I was really just wondering if the IB Diploma program really prepares you well for university and in which ways? For people who go to prestigious unis or vigorous ones, how many points did you obtain on your diploma and hows different is uni from IB. i know that i wont be taking as many courses per semester, but i am really just worried about the reading and the workload. i currently take HL Chem, Bio, Eco and the rest at sl - will that prepare me well? Hi, I'm applying to California College of the Arts and the deadline is this week! I don't know how to approach their application essay honestly. I'm majoring in Industrial Design. This is what the essay has to include: A one to two-page essay must accompany your application. Your essay should address the major influences on your decision to pursue art, architecture, design, or writing. It should also address how you see yourself contributing to the CCA community, specifically with respect to the college's values, summarized below: CCA understands the import role of artists, designers, architects, and writes in solving social, cultural, environmental, and economic problems…

I know it's funny to even discuss about such issues but I don't know what else to do. I wrote the PS and used my creativity but my coordinator is not satisfied with that, since it's not like others, breath taking and demanding or stunning. I don't know what is my fault that I don't have such sad or stressful or eminent background story to talk about like the samples I saw. So I'm in IB in America, and universities in general aren't as competitive as they are in other parts of the world. Of course there are the more prestigious universities, but I don't forsee myself going to any of the top ones. I'm insanely involved in extra-curriculars, and I've noticed my grades slipping. I still have straight A's, but they aren't as secure as usual. I'm in marching band, a youth orchestra at a local university, periodic honor bands, allcounty band, marine biology club, French club, Music Honor Society, and Science club, and various online classes. I'm historian of French Club, which is actually pretty prestigious because that puts me in charge of the Sc…

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me with my problem. I've got a quiet good condition in IB and my predicted grades are high. I got a 5 in AP ( calculus AB ) and I am doing another one ( calculus BC) this year. I didn't study much for SAT test last year and took one test and my score was just 1570. I am planning for US engineering universities. But the point is that most of the deadlines are just approaching and I don't have a good chance of increasing my SAT score right now, meanwhile we are busy with our internals and EE. Are there any Engineering universities who don't require SAT?

Hello, I am having loads of trouble figuring out about which SAT Reasoning scores to send. Websites are either too vague or certain pages fail to load, so i have come here for the answer. Do i need to send all scores, superscore, or highest composite score? where can i check on the college board/common app? Second question, my school's college councilor said: "US Universities do not require IB predicted scores." Do they really don't care? Any answers would be great. Kindest Regards, -Fiz
