Hi everyone, I start my IBDP this year and have currently chosen maths HL. However, I've been looking over past papers and feel as if SL is far easier for me and would require little to no study to reach a 7 (I'm assuming that 3U maths is a little harder than SL, and I did my 3U HSC last year - I accelerated maths by 2 years). The thing is, I want to study a double degree law and commerce at either USYD/UNSW (which require a 44 entry mark), and I'm worried that SL maths will not be sufficient in the commerce course? Or would SL maths be insufficient in a career in finance/banking? I am capable of HL maths but it would require much more attention and practice - ther…

So I'm almost at the end of my first year of IB (yay?) and am extremely stressed about my mock exams (which I'm currently doing). I reallyreally want to apply to QUT in Brisbane to do the creative industries course there, and the entry requirement is 28 points. I've make the mistake of leaving revision for my mocks a bit too late at will probably get very low marks (I estimated the range of marks being from [very bad to best] 24-30 points). Because I want to apply to Australia, I get to use my final IB grades when submitting my scores. Should I be worrying about my mock exams? I've been given A LOT of external pressure by both friends (who are trying to go to the US…

Hi Survivors, I was wondering if any of you have attended any UMAT Study Courses. I wish to know if they are helpful, and is indeed worth the price i am paying (i heard most expensive can be up to $2000). If any of you have attended, would you please leave a note with a link to the course that you studied? I wish to do Medicine, with a possibility in Monash University, so i need a outstanding UMAT Score to get in. Thanks all in advance for your help! Evan

Hey guys, I have not long before I need to finalise what courses I study and where I want to apply for. So, I have done UMAT, havent yet gotten results, and am applying for Medicine. However, chances are that I won't get in and I have been looking at other sort of medicine related courses. I don't really think that podiatry or physiotherapy, OT etc suit me. I'd been thinking about Psychology. To either become a psychologist or psychiatrist potentially. What scope is there in Australia for becoming a psychologist or psychiatrist? And what universities and courses do you suggest to aim for? I'm also thinking of Optometry which sounds really interesting, so if you …

Hey guys, I want to go to ANU next year and I've already put in my college application (for Burgmann College) but I'm really nervous about various aspects of college life such as: - Food - Size of dorm rooms - Hazing of first-years - Being underage during O-Week - Unisex bathrooms Do any of you/your friends know anything about residential colleges in Australia and if so, what are they like?

I am planning to apply to Monash University (BBus (Accounting))or RMIT (Bachelor of Accounting). For Monash the Clearly in ATAR entry requirement is 83.3 (equal to 31 IB Score), and the ATAR entry requirement at RMIT is 70 (equal to 25 IB Score). These ATAR values have been converted using this link http://www.vtac.edu.au/pdf/ib_notional_atar.pdf So what I wanted to know was the likelihood of getting into these courses if I got the required score or above, or am I already guaranteed a spot?

Hi guys, I completed my IB in May 2013, though for personal reasons, I won't be able to apply for an Australian uni until the 2014 Second Semester intake (July 2014). My question is, do you think my chances would be higher compared to if I was applying to the Semester 1 intake. Considering that all Australian schools finish their year 12 in December, and I will be applying as a domestic student (I've read somewhere that domestic students don't 'compete' with international students for places). Also, for those who have enrolled in UQ, how hard was it to get in? Do you need IB scores much higher than the minimum stated in the booklet? Any replies will be much appreciated

It's my final year in IB and I'll be entering exams in May 2014. I live in Turkey but hold a dual citizenship (Australia&Turkey) so I am a domestic student. The maximum point I can achieve from IB is 35-36. I wish to study Laws/IT. But for domestic students, universities require scores over 42 for domestic students but they require 36 for international students... I can achieve 36 points but no more. My question is can I apply as an international student since I also have a Turkish citizenship and I am willing to pay the full cost for international students. Then after the first year can I be a domestic student just like in the US ?

Hi, So basically I have a dual citizenship (Finnish and Australian). However, I have lived my whole live in Finland, and I have never visited Australia, but now i would be intrested to apply Australian universities. So, am I considered being international or domestic undergraduate student? I didn't find any information on the internet .

Realistically im going to get around 35-38 in the I.B. I study the I.B. in Greece, i'm in year 13 gonna finish my exams in May. My HLs are Business, Biology, & Psychology SLs are Math, English AB, Spanish AB initio. & i have an Australian citizenship. I want to apply for the Bachelor of Commerce course. Or something related to biology like bioengineering. I was wondering, based on the competition involved and my target I.B. score, how hard is it get an almost guaranteed entry or just get accepted in?

Hi all, i'm a prospective student currently eyeing on the Uni of Melbourne. I'm interested in their geology course but their requirements simply state that all we need (aside from a certain score) is one subject in math (sl/hl), english and a natural science. My natural science at the moment is biology, and while I have checked and confirmed that it is accepted, doesn't geology focus much more on the chemistry and physics of the planet than biology? Won't this pose some sort of problem for me if I were to be accepted?

Hi everyone, I'm starting the IB next year and I have a friend who I was going to go with to schoolies. But since i'm doing the IB i finish my exams about a month later (?) than she does and she's doing the HSC. Do you ever feel annoyed/left out/whatever about the fact that your IB exams finish later than HSC exams? And I've heard a lot of people saying that you don't hang out with HSC people, and basically you don't really talk to them for the whole 2 years. Is this true? Thanks

I was just wondering if anyone knew what would happen at ANU when your IB score fulfils the entry requirement but your converted ATAR does not? For example, the entry requirements for the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Law (http://studyat.anu.edu.au/programs/4105XBARTS;overview.html) are: Entry Requirement Entry Level ATAR 96 QLD Band 3 International Baccalaureate 37 However, the IB score of 37, when converted to a Notional ATAR, was only 95.90, just below the required ATAR score. If your IB score is converted before you apply for university (I know this is done through VTAC in Victoria, and I'm not sure about NSW), does this pote…

Would maths studies allow me to get into an Australian University such as "Queensland University of Technology" or "University of Queensland"? I want to do international business, maybe even deans honours (you need an OP 2 or rank of 98 for deans honours), but I am wondering if Maths Studies would allow me to get into those courses (mainly deans honours) I am not very good at mathematics, and I don't see how calculus and trigonometry would be useful for international business. Plus, I heard that you can't get into university with maths studies from a teacher? On the website it says English is all you need, and maths A, B, or C.

Hi. I'm an international student and I want to study in Australia or New Zealand. My grades are pretty good and I've got so many 6's and 7's. However, the problem is that tuition fees are so high and I can't afford them. Is there any way to overcome this problem? Unfortunately, scholarships are very competitive and I don't think I can count so much on them. Thanks. PS: In the interim grades, I got a total of 39 including ToK and excluding self-taught. So I would be a hard-working student but the fees obstacle is a problem!

I made a bad judgement when I started IB and studied Maths Studies instead of SL and dropped out of Chem into Bio HL, and so now I am not eligible for the Bachelor of Science course I want to do at UQ. I am planning on starting uni mid-year, and so was wondering if anyone knew of good bridging courses in the Brisbane area or online... I found some but am not sure how to go about getting more information or whether they are credible to UQ... Any advice or sharing of past experiences would be very appreciated!

Hey guys, So I've done quite a bit of background research into each of these three universities and the commerce structures they offer. I'll break up my findings into each of the respectively universities: Deakin Although Deakin is supposably renowned for their Commerce course, they don't offer as much depth in terms of electives and majors as both Monash and Melbourne. Likewise, score-wise, only around an ATAR of 80 (which I think is between 27 - 29) is required to get in. I know they offer a Deans Scholar program which has an ATAR of around 95, if we look past the facade of the high enter all I think it really is is some extra 1v1 tutoring (which at the end of the day p…

I need help! I have to start thinking about universities and finally choosing one, and I'm mostly focused on either University of Newcastle or University of Wollongong in Australia. I'm especially interested in Environmental Science/Science (Environment)/Geography at UOW or UoN. Do you know which one offers better programs or more opportunities in future career? I looked at ranks and generally UOW seems to be a little bit better, but it would be really nice if someone who lives there or knows people who attend one of these unis could express their opinions! I'd be very grateful for your help!

So, I live in QLD and am keen to get into Med (hopefully). I really want to move interstate because I'm over qld but I realised that unis like usyd or umelb only offer Med as a postgraduate degree. This would mean that i would have to get into biomed and sit a gamsat to gain entrance into med. But if I stay in qld, I can go to UQ where there is actually an undergraduate course - although they do 2 years of science first. I'm really unsure whether i should stick to UQ, save time and less effort (don't have to do gamsat!) or be experimental and choose to work my way around - postgraduate course. What do you guys think? Undergraduate course + save time? or Prestigious uni +…

hey there, i'm planning to register for the UMAT (Undergraduate Medical and Health Sciences Admission Test) this year, there are so many prep. courses available all claiming to have "top-quality products - exam papers, questions etc" as well as "extensive preparation" for UMAT. however, as far as i can tell, a lot these are pretty much scams which end up with a loss of $500+ (approx.) in the enrolling fees. therefore, i would like to hear your feedback on some of the preparation courses offered as well as recommendations. note: i live in brisbane (QLD), it is possible for me to attend courses in the gold coast however brisbane is preferred (consider the driving time!…

Hi, I know that there is still a while untill I finish IB and start applying for UNI. But our school always tries to get us one step ahead. I was just wondering, if I wanted to do two degrees, Commerce and Law, would it be better if I went to UOS or UOM? I am leaning towards Melbourne, because I like the fact that they do sequential degrees, but are there any good things about Sydney as well? ] Thanks

I am 100% sure I want to do vet. med/science in university. However, I am not sure of my abilities and capabilities for getting into Vet in undergraduate. Therefore, I was thinking of doing Bachelor of Science majoring in somethnig related to animals for example Zoology, then either switching universities and doing Vet., or staying in the current uni if it offers vet. For example, Uni of Melbourne offers Bachelor of Science, and you will enter Doctor of Vet after 3 years of bachelor, if you do well in the first two years of Bachelor. Cornell university, College of Science then vet. science. However, plenty of universities offer animal-related science courses, and I am no…

Hey forum! I'm a Norwegian who have attended IB and ended up with 34 points. I decided to apply for engineering at New Zealand universities, and I'm already accepted at Auckland University of Technology and Victoria University of Wellington. What is my chance for getting into University of Auckland with 66 in physics and mathematics HL? Also, what is the reputation for Auckland University of Technology compared to University of Auckland. I have read that many graduates find a job, but I'm still unsure, especially since their website is terrible. Thanks.

Hi I am an IB student in Hong Kong and is an Australian Citizen. I want to apply to Australia Universities next year as an undergraduate local student. I am confused with the system that Universities (which offer Medicine) operates. Some universities offer MBBS as a postgraduate (Syndey) and some as undergraduate (UNSW) and some you have to study an undergraduate course in thier university before studying a postgraduate course in Medicine in their school. I don't know which universities operates on which system. I mean in the third example, if i take a undergraduate course prior to a postgraduate Medical course, would i have to study for a longer duration as a result? And…

Hello! I'm thinking of applying to New Zealand universities (especially Otago University) but I want to know around how many IB points is actually required. On the website they stated from 26-28 points but the course I'm thinking of is very competitive and 'limited' (it's a biomedical/health sciences course) so I'm assuming that they would in the end accept a student with a much higher IB point . Does anyone know a person who got accepted or applied to the course? If so, how many IB points did they have around? Thank you!
