Hello all, I know that CS is not a very popular, but I'm still hoping to find some CS students here. My teacher is terrible! I don't know how to study the course, there aren't any materials, the textbooks are of awful quality! I'm all set for the theoretical part of the exam, e.g. how a computer works. I am aware of compscihub.com, which is where I study the theory. I think I could also potentially manage the pure Java (my teacher has chosen option OOP), but I know nothing about the abstract concepts that require programming, they aren't covered in any courses. What are the methods I can use to study CS without a teacher? If there are any alumni, how was your exam? …

I want to study biomedical science (aka medical science), medicine (Not my fav choice but, still in the list) and pharmacology. I wasn't sure which IB subjects I am suppose to choose and for Medicine/Biomedical science, do you need to have DP Bio HL and Chem HL or can you choose one HL and one SL?

I just screwed up my biology test today and it took me quite a while to get over it. Scary questions kept on popping into my mind, "What if I end up getting a 5 in this test and the score goes into my transcript which will be seen by the colleges I'm applying to?" I know what the rational solution to this problem is: We can't change the past; the only thing we can do is to learn from our mistakes and do better in the next test. However, it is still really difficult to deal with bad test results emotionally, despite the fact that we know it is stupid and pointless to worry about things we cannot change. Since most of us are probably bombarded by tests and assessments const…

Hey everyone, I am in my first year of diploma and semester one is almost over. I had all my tests last week and my results are out. Looking at all my grades, it is way below average. I have studied in IB all my life. I feel like MYP has not even helped me at all in DP. In MYP i got honour awards, but now in DP I am literally failing. I choose HL: Math AA (4), Physics HL(1 - I did a retest and am still waiting for the results), Biology (5) and SL English Language and literature (6), History (3) and French (4). I don't know what I want to be when I grow up, so I just choose all the subjects I liked. It was a huge transition for me from MYP to DP. I find it hard to wr…

Hello, What IB subjects do I choose if I want to study something connected to business? Unfortunately, my school does not offer business management and psychology. I was thinking about: HL: maths AA, economics, language B/biology(the science that I like the most and I think I would get the highest grade - is that even a good approach?) SL: language lit, language B/biology, history/physics/chemistry What do you think about these choices and what would you change?

How closely does an EE examiner check a student's work? Do they re-do every single calculation that the student has shown and verify if that's correct? For example, if you say "When these values are substituted to this formula, the below values are obtained." will they actually substitute the values into the formula and see if the values match what's written on your work?

So I'm aiming for top Law unis in the UK, e.g. LSE, UCL, Oxbridge, etc I currently take HL History, Lang Lit, and Econ, Sl Spanish B, Math AA, and Bio I hate Lang Lit so much. It's so easy to get top scores and I feel capable of Lit. Our Lit course has apparently covered like 30 poems, a book called The Visit, and are now covering the summer reading called 'Running in the Wild'. It's notoriously difficult to score a 7 in Lit at our school. Would it be wise to switch to Lit and risk getting a 766 (Econ is the 7) or just keep Lang Lit and get a 776 predicted?

Some politicians, and some pens, cannot imagine a speech without one or more quotes. Two strategies are at work in terms of self-presentation: showing one's erudition (which can strengthen the legitimacy of the speaker), or appealing to the common culture and collective memory (everyone will recognize the moral of the speaker). Knowing your audience is essential here. References should be common to the speaker and his audience. There are several types of quotes, which will illustrate, register the subject in a tradition of surprise and challenge: write my dissertation legit essay writing service …

Hello! My name is Duncan and I am currently grade 7. I will be taking an exam in 2020 November and I am trying to make it into St. Roberts high school. Alexander Mackenzie is another option for me but it is extremely far away. I am clearly a newbie when it comes to high school programmes so I surely need some help. I was wondering what I can do to give me a likelihood of passing the entrance exams. What are some sample papers I can trust, how am I supposed to know what to study and how, and what are the requirements for IB entrance exams. Thanks for taking your time and reading through this, Duncan

Hi everyone, I need help from all of you. I am in year 2 right now, I changed my school, I moved to a new school last year and started the IB in July. I haven't done my best in the units and all, and our end of year exams were cancelled due to COIVID-19. These are my grades MAA SL: 5 Physics HL: 5 Chem HL: 5 Economics HL: 5 English A Lit SL : 6 French B SL: 5 My grades are extremely underwhelming, and I know I can do better, I have always been a good and motivated student, and got 95+ in all my subjects…

I've been using this forum for a while now and have been trying to help out. A lot many questions are on whether the particular IA/IB topics are relevant. However, many seem to discount good English and effective communication out of the picture. Even if one chooses a not so good essay, how it can be crisply conveyed matters the most. Those having their exams in 2022 or later have enough time in their hands to work on their language. It is best to drill the basics and learn them hard. Work on them for 15-30 mins every day. Start writing short sentences in active voice and then full-fledged essays. This process would help better prepare for exams. However, for those having…

Hi fellow survivors. I am starting the diploma program this year, and I am not sure how to get organized. During the pandemic I go to school every other day, so some content is provided online, but we still get a lot of handouts. I also prefer to take notes on paper, as I feel I retain information better that way. Any thoughts on how I can stay organized?

Hello. I am currently about to complete my first year of my IB Diploma. However I have recently found out of the IB Certificate program which consist of taking whatever subjects you want at whatever level you want. All of the other mandatory components of the full IB Diploma are now compulsory, such as the Extended Essay and CAS. Also, unlike the full diploma I would be awarded a certificate for each subject I choose to take, and if I were to fail in aa subject, CAS, TOK, or extended essay this would not impact me obtaining my grades for my other subjects. Whereas in the full IB Diploma failing a component such as CAS would result in the failure of the whole Diploma…

Hello, I'm starting the diploma program in September and I plan to major in Psychology. I'm taking Math A&I SL because math isn't my strong suit, and taking 4 HLs is too difficult for me. Does this really significantly lower my chance at getting accepted into universities? Is it really a 'soft subject'?

Hey Everyone, I'm a senior at a public high school in California. Our IB program is very small, and it just started offering an HL Comp sci. The thing is, most of the students in the class aren't even IB students, and the teacher is clueless. She stated that she is basically going to ignore the IB curriculum. As such, I assume I will get no guidance on my IA and also have to teach myself all of the class material. Do you guys think it's doable? What are some good sites/resources that I can use to help me? Thank you so much! Regards from the US, Jonathan

So basically, I have two paths that I want to go down and it just depends what and how I do in school. So I have chosen my subjects and then change them even untill the start of next year if needed. So bascially, I choose computer science because I want to have this pathway avaliable as this is most likely what I choose but I might change my mind later on. I chose bio cause I want to maybe do something biology or maybe med related. But I heard on from other Ib students on this site that chemistry is also required but if I do choose bio or med, then I would need to replace chemistry with computer science. This is due to the fact that I have to do a humanites subject which …

This is the first time I have ever used IB Survival but here we go. So I am wanting to do my EE about the two novels of Crime and Punishment by Fydor D. and Matilda by Roald D. where I want to focus my topic on the villains of their stories and how they basically help the protagonists more than hurt them. The villains being Ms. Trunchbull and Luzhin. When I think about someone who helps another person I think of a 'mentor'. So here is my idea: "To what extent do the villains in the works Fydor Dostoyevsky and Roald Dahl fulfil the mentor archetype?" Please let me know if this is too broad or too narrow.....thank you
